Of the various belt tensioner a out there for the RT, which is the most effective, most popular and why?

Picked up my new RT Limited yesterday, had it out on the highway this morning and found the dreaded vibration start around 3800 thru 4100 rpm.

thanks, Kevin

This was my review I really like mine. I don't know about other brands and models so I can't speak much on them.

Only way to know is a poll. Most have one but don't know about the others. I have the smoothspyder and it works well but don't know how well the others work. I vote for the one I have...

I had the smoothspyder belt tensioner on my 2012 RT L and will install on my 2014 RT L. IMO, best design out there.:2thumbs:

I have the Smoothspyder on my 2013 RT Ltd & it has made a tremendous difference. Can't speak about any others, but the consensus seems to be the Smoothspyder.

I have the Baker unit. Easy install, no vibration up to 80mph. Also have the Spyderpops belt guard, fit with no problems.

Is SmoothSpyder transferable to the 2014 RTS?

Like someone asked but got no answer---is someone going to be at Spyderfest to sell and install SmoothSpyder????

Thanks!

Good question. There has to be something different between the '13 and '14 RT units because he has two separate units on his web site but does not describe the difference.

I just installed the Smoothspyder tensioner on my 2013 RT Limited. Had a little difficulty getting it to fit, called Jim and he was more than willing to help. Turned out the problem was self-induced and I finished the install with no problem. The change in my Spyder was amazing. Vibrations were reduced drastically, and the shifting was improved greatly. I don't know about the other tensioners on the market but this one lives up to everything it was claimed to be.

I installed Smooth Spyder on my 2012 RT about a year ago. Really cut down on the growling noise from belt at certain speeds. When riding, belt tension is always changing depending on power applied. Tension increases on top side and decreases on bottom side proportional to torque applied. Smooth Spyder or any other belt tensioner cuts span in half on bottom of belt to reduce noise and belt deflection from belt resonance.

When I purchased the 2014 RT Smoothspyder tensioner from Jim, he mentioned he would send me an additional shim for the 2014 as it's the same tensioner for the 2013 except to add that one shim.

If you have a 2012 RT or earlier, I don't think it will transfer as I had to drill holes on my 2012 RT and bolt it in (totally different mounting bracket). SO....my opinion is it can not be transferred if you have a 2012 RT or older to a 2014 RT. Yes, though for the 2013 RT to a 2014 RT.

Contact Jim at: jim@smoothspyder.com to validate ....he's great to work with!

I would contact him and if you're thinking of removing it on the 2013 RT to put on a new 2014 RT, he may sell you that additional shim or you can make one -- very easy. Here's some pics of my 2014 RT install - fyi.
