View Full Version : Factory update for 2014's

In my search for a '14 RT, I contacted a local dealer who has one in the pipeline. He called BRP to get an ETA to his shop and found out that the factory is telling dealers to perform the "updates" before selling any '14 Can Am RT's on their floor. It is not a recall, it is an "update" only. Sold RT '14's will be notified to come in for the "update" as soon as possible. The dealer could not find out what the "update" was.

That makes sense why I might be having a hard time finding what I was looking for.

I asked if the update was the ignition but the dealer said BRP wouldn't divulge the info.

So how could the dealer do the update if BRP won't divulge what it is?

I called the dealer back and placed a deposit on the RT  It sounds like it will not ship for at least 4 weeks (maybe more), and the dealership is waiting to hear back from BRP about what's going on.

Arrrrrrrrrrggggggggg :yikes::yikes::yikes: if production is held up another four weeks. I am glad to hear that BRP is now pro-active on making sure the new Spyders leave the factory in perfect condition.

The downside: people have to wait another month or so for :ani29:'s not already in the pipeline.

The upside: The :spyder2:'s will be arriving so late in the season that maybe they will be subject to deep discounts and closeout special sale prices. It is getting a little late for early season 'take it or leave it' pricing. IMO--of course. :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:

LOL akspyderman. I've already decided that if it takes too long, I'll switch the refundable deposit to a 2015 :D

Please, don't ask too many questions. Just have a seat in the waiting room and relax! This won't take long.... and you won't feel a thing.

Your idea is a very good one. I would recommend that for any and all who are going to put down a deposit and are now waiting for their :spyder2: to arrive at a date unknown. :2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:

Sounds like BRP is working on it and won't release the details until they have a complete "fix" available. Parts or software? Maybe....

We have heard a few posts mentioning sticking keys, etc. So that sounds like good information.

A little bit of information does go a long way, and prevents nasty speculation.

I don't remember hearing about trunk lock difficulties--but good to solve now, if there is an issue.

I will say again: I am happy that BRP has become pro-active on solving problems. That is great news for the product.

That is the opposite of me my key code is on the list and myVIN is not. I am having issues with the igntion so my dealer is trying to contact BRP to see if they will cover it, been two days and no word back from the dealer.

I doubt you'll see a price reduction no matter what. While at my dealer the other I saw two '14's come. One was on a flatbed and the other was on the owner's transport trailer. Neither one would start. When asked one of the service people what was wrong with those machines his reply was, with a disgusted look on his face: "Who know anymore"?

Most know that my price reduction comment was in jest in order to "stir the pot". I do that sometimes.

I was under the impression that new :spyder2:'s come in crates and need some assembly by the dealer before they can start em up and drive. :dontknow:

Probably being replaced simply to keep the key the same as the ignition. Most likely it's cheaper to replace the trunk lock than pay a locksmith to rekey it to the new ignition key.
