Contemplating the purchase of a 2014 RT Ltd with a build date of 01/23/14. Anyone have (or had) oil leak issues on your Spyder with the same or later build date?

Got a test ryde scheduled for next Tuesday...taking my checkbook. Whether I write a check or not depends mostly on what my dealer gives me for my 12 RT Ltd on trade-in. Love my 12 RTL...hope I can be pragmatic, but not sure if I can be after the test ryde (based on how much most rave about the 14).

I would say not to worry about the build date. If the :spyder2: is the color and model you want--go for it. It is the dealers responsibility to make sure that your new :ani29: drives off the showroom floor with any mechanical glitches fixed and no problems for you the buyer.

Have a friendly conversation with the dealer and make sure that they are aware of any and all bulletins to get your :spyder2: on the road.

My selling dealer took care of everything before I left the dealership, they even did the laser alignment. This was in the middle of January when I took delivery.

Engine and transmission were build and assembled on earlier date in the Rotax engine assembly plant in Austria.

I'll ensure my dealer does the same...except the LA...they didn't invest in the Outlaw/ROLO system...wish they had!

;)Yup! No diesel here... I LIKE the sound!

It's on the M.S.O. (Manufacturer's Statement of Origin), and is also most likely on your title to the bike...

And I think the build date is also under the seat.

I was at my dealer today dropping off a few "improvements" that they're going to put on my RTL while they're building it.
While I was there I talked to my sales rep and asked him about the oil leak bulletin.
He pull up my Spyder, build date 02/03/2014 and no bulletin came up. Fixed at the source.
He pulled up one built in January and the bulletin came right up.
So this isn't something I'd be concerned with, if it hasn't already been fixed they'll know and will take care of it while putting that baby together!

Good Luck!

That's not encouraging...guess leak or no leak is somewhat of a crap shoot whether the bike is on the list of affected vins or not. Service bulletin was released 22 Jan 14 and BRP Care (Steve) posted that bikes with build dates after that date were fixed. Hope that is the case on the 14 RT Ltd I'm considering. Thanks.

I'm concerned as as well but I have confidence in my dealer...still, should I buy the 14 RTL, I'll check now and then to ensure no oil leak just for my piece of mind...trust but verify!

Based on most of the feedback I've received so far I'm not going to make this issue a deal breaker. Whether I pull the trigger or not will depend on the deal and whether I can resist following the test ryde (being able to resist after the test ryde concerns me more than the oil leak issue). Good luck!

Spyryd - if you do trade someone is going to get one sweet '12

Best of luck

Thanks, R_R. I really love my '12...it has never let me down in over 26k miles. Really have mixed emotions about my "lust" for the '14. I need to really stick to my guns when it comes to negotiating with my dealer on trade-in value, price, sweetness, etc. If the deal does not work I still have my baby to enjoy. See 'ya at SF!

I know! It's hard to give up a sure thing for something hopefully better but, what-the-heck, life's a gamble so why not enjoy it while we're still vertical, right?

ABSOLUTELY!!! My 2011 RTS 582 was a great ride. The young lady that acquired it is going to have a lot of fun. Time and climate have teamed up against me for the moment, but it won't be too much longer!

At some point; we may have to hold a "Memorial Service", for the bikes that we've left behind... ;)

Thanks all for the replies. I bought the 14 RT-L and picked it up from my dealer on 20 Mar. Had the 3000 mile service done yesterday (had 2999 miles on the odometer when dropped at the dealer). Included in that mileage was a 1300 mile trip to TN. On the way home from TN, rode 662.7 miles in 11 and 1/2 hours all in the rain (mostly heavy rain) with stops for fuel only. That's a personal one day distance record for me. Previous record was 440 miles on my 12 RT-L. The 14 RT being so smooth and comfortable (aftermarket Ultimate seat) even ryding in downpours, is why I was able to do that distance. Needless to say I LOVE my 14 RT-L.
