Pictured below is a rack made for a cooler to fit on some bike trailer hitches and I'm wondering if something like that could be made to work on a Can Am hitch. I'd like just a little more room for bulky clothes like jackets and such so the weight would be kept to a minimum. I don't want to invest in a trailer as it wouldn't get used much. Other than the cost of the hitch, this would be an inexpensive alternative. The biggest obstacle I see would be fashioning a strong enough attachment to the hitch. The one pictured shows a heavy duty type mount. Opinions please. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Quick-Release-Motorcycle-Cooler-Rack-/121220606016?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item1c394fa840

i have tried one of these, not happy, they rattle, and if you dont remove the entire thing when you use your trailer it will restrict smooth turning

I think John has what you need:
http://www.sealcreativeconcepts.com/seal-products/seal-tote-rack/

Contact him.

Be advised, the aftermarket hitch may bolt up and work, but you will void your warranty if you use an aftermarket hitch (BRP determination). You have to buy the [more expensive] factory hitch.

Prolly a better choice since it is specific to the Spyder and a Spyderlovers sponcer.

83377 BMWLarry came up with this...
Rattling? You cure that by drilling and tapping the receiver on both sides... Slide the hitch in, get it in place, and then tighten down a couple of "set screws", to keep things quiet! :2thumbs:

Thanks Bob. I had not seen that before. I already have a bag to use, and spoke to a biker guy today that owns a welding shop, understood where I'm coming from, and said he'd make anything I wanted. Looking now to get a hitch at best price I can.

this will work no doubt. Many here have asked about it and many use them. I wonder what you carry because being attached to the swing arm there is a lot of movement...:dontknow:

With that located behind the back tire, if you got caught in some weather wouldn't anything that you're carrying get get trashed?

No doubt; you need to spend some real money on a quality container. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/28/28_2_4v.gif

YUP.......
it's VERY DO'ABLE....
if you had the hitch, i could build such a rack, a very simple fabrication... make it your next DIY Project...

if you are riding an RT... the hitch/rack would be your best bet...
if you are riding an RS... this may be of interest to you, it holds a double bag set;

On the swing arm movement, I'm not so sure it moves all that much because of the weight of the swing arm and load. I do believe the bike and rear swing arm compress but the wheel probably doesn't come off the road very much if at all. I do think the tire side wall flexes up and down, so the load on the rack kind of vibrates up and down a fraction of an inch or so. So, pack your clothes in the container, not your coke cola...

I pack most stuff in plastic bags to keep them dry.

Nice work. I'll get a hitch and be right down.......you're only 2 hrs away!:D

I'm probably going this route, but first want to ride down to GIVI in Charlotte and check out their trunk racks. They have a variety of sizes made for their trunks and there might be something there I can live with. I've seen the ones avail for the Can Am RT but they appear larger than what I want; in fact, I'm not at all enthused with a rack as it then becomes a permanent fixture, but maybe something at GIVI will please me.

Nice looking rack! Apparently your solution does not require the trailer hitch, Eh? How about some details on what you did? Thanks.
