Saturday Aug. 2nd
Okay, back to the ride. Saturday morning we were ready to head out about 9:00 a.m. We headed east on the northern shore of Lake Huron for a very nice and comfortable ride. From there we went north right up to Sault Ste. Marie. We stopped at the Soo Locks and told everyone they could all do their thing and we would meet back in about an hour and a half for lunch. Some went off shopping and a band of us went to the official Locks to watch a boat come through the locks. What a magnificent feat of engineering. We walked along the locks and the shoreline and got some more photos along the way. By now we are getting hungry and it was time for lunch. We had already decided to eat at a restaurant called Antlers for lunch. It was very cool and the décor is something you have to see for yourself. http://www.antlersgiftshop.com/ The service was a bit slow for us. I think we just caught them at a bad time. It took over an hour for our food to arrive and we were getting hungry and grumpy and wasting precious ride time. When the food did arrive, it was very good though and we got a 20% discount for our trouble. We were all ready to ride again after lunch. We were quite a site riding all in a row through town as we were leaving. 8 Spyders and two Harley, we looked like a parade. People were taking pictures and waving, it was pretty cool. We headed up to Paradise and Whitefish point. That is where we split into two groups. A few of us wanted to look around the shipwreck museum and everyone else wanted to go straight to Tahquamenon Falls.

Those of us that hung back at the shipwreck museum never did go in to the museum, it as a bit pricey. We stopped in the gift shop and got some fudge and then checked out the beach and just kind of walked around for a short bit. Then we headed up to the falls ourselves. When we arrived at the Upper Falls, we saw the spyders from the rest of our group parked there. Of course we had to have ice cream before we could venture down to the falls. While wondering around the falls area, we met up with our fellow spyder owners. What a great group of folks. About now, James (Daddydarko) isn’t looking so well. It turns out he had come up on this ride with Kidney Stones and they were starting to give him some problems. He was feeling pretty sick. I felt bad for him, he had brought his 12-year-old brother on the trip and they were camping and having a good time too. He decided to forgo the Lower Falls and take a more direct route back to the hotel with a few other riders. As it turns out, they took a scenic route, just without the additional stops.

The other half of us stopped at the Lower Falls and walked around for a bit and then decided to go back the way we came. There were a couple of scenic lookouts along Lake Superior that we wanted to stop at and didn’t on the ride out, Finally it was getting late and we were tired and thought we should just head back to the hotel for the night. It was almost 10:00pm when we pulled in. The campfire was roaring and we settled in for some socializing before turning in for the night.

Hard to believe - I was at a wedding reception Sat. night here in Minneapolis. I was describing my Spyder to the husband of a friend of mine. He laughed and said he had just been in the UP and seen a whole bunch of them!!

That is pretty funny, you know it had to be us. Did he say where in the UP he was? Too bad you couldn't have joined us for even a part of our ride. Maybe next time.
