No Trailer Mode

Found another convenience feature on my 2014 RT this morning.. Used the trailer for the first time and discovered the
2014 has NO TRAILER MODE. The engine and transmission combo now require no special setting or unsetting. Just another
convenience like not have to take the bike apart to cheek the oil or not having to stop as gas stations nearly so often These little
things add up to big convenience

nice feature..know there were a lot of questions about the trailer mode on previous units. Simplifies life for all those with the new Rt's towing...:thumbup:

Its pretty simple on the older bikes too. There is no reason to use the NON trailer mode. Just set it for trailer mode and leave it there. The bike shifts much better that way and keeps the RPMs away from the centrifugal clutch.

On my '10 RTS you have to reset to trailer mode everytime you start it. PITA for me.

Bob, I never had a big drop in fuel economy when towing with my 991s. Fuel economy is directly related to how hard you twist the throttle. I do have a problem with that. :roflblack:

I never have a big drop either...the worst has been 2 mpg at 80 mph. Usually it is less than a mile per gallon. The Aspen Sentry camper, on the other hand, drops it 3-5 mpg at freeway speeds.

You haven't given us much information to go on, Assuming you have a new BRP hitch/harness for the 2014 and an RT-622 trailer, you would need to connect a square-4 plug to the trailer. You can purchase one at a trailer or automotive store and splice it in or replace the old 9-pin round, or you can buy a new trailer tongue harness or adapter from BRP and replace the front connector on the trailer that way. If you have something different, you will have to give us the particulars so we can advise you better.

Having six gears with closer ratios will be nice for trailering because your can always downshift to fifth gear for things like passing or climbing grades, strong head winds etc. On the flatlands the sixth just reduces the engine RPMs enough to get better gas mileage and still have enough torque to pull with. That and the bigger triple motor make for a win-win when it comes to trailer towing.

I have a home built one I made for my 2011 and Im going to use it on my 14 the old wiring I got from brp and I did not know if I need the same or is there away just to add one you buy at a auto store

The new hitch/harness is a square-4 connector. You will need to mate to that.

BRP sell the replacement cable that replaces your 9 pin to the square 4pin 49 bucks.:thumbup:

OK, let's go back to the beginning. What wiring do you have on your homemade trailer? What hitch do you have on your '14, a new one from BRP with the 4 pole connector, or did you move the hitch and wiring from your '11 to your '14? Or are you installing an after market hitch? Please tell us exactly, in detail, what you have and what you want to do. Your first question was too vague. There are several variables to consider here. Thank you.
