Do they still make Four Roses? My grandfather used to buy that one. I like Makers Mark but prefer Jack Daniels to Jim Beam. I don't think the sell out will affect the brands to much though. If it does, there are a lot of other choices--IMO.

If you give a Japanese a Johnny Walker blue and they will give you back a 10 folds lifetime gratitude and that's my experience to my friend Yato.

So THAT'S where the problem lies...
Cheap booze! :gaah:

That bottle might cost $300 way up there... Carrying them over the mountain passes on the backs of Caribou travelling in caravans isn't cheap! :D

They're going to have a tough time saying it's Tennessee Whiskey if it's made in Japan. Even if they still make the stuff in the U.S., it's just not right...

It is closer to $300 here. We have some of the highest liquor taxes in the US. About 38% if memory serves me well. $30 to $50 for pretty much anything.

Another tidbit concerning pricing.

We have "dry" villages in the bush here. The only way to get stuff is to smuggle or make home brew. Bar whisky like R&R (shudder) goes for $300 to $400 a bottle if they can get it through the system. Don't ask me how people who are subsisting off the land can afford it. I sure couldn't. This has been featured on Alaska State Troopers a few times.

:yikes: Robbery I say. I get my well Scotch ( Clan MacGregor 1.75l) for $20. The single malt ( Glenlivet, Glenfidditch) I save for special occasions (like when I run out of well and I am on a bender) The MacGregar, by the way even though cheap is one of the best blends on the market very smooth moreso than JW Red about in the Black areana to me. I could never understand how anyone would pay that much for a blend you can get several bottles of top of the shelf single malts (Glen Moange, Balvanie etc) for that much. McCelland's makes some passable single malts in several varieties in the $35 range I prefer the Highland vs. the smoky tasting Islay.

I do miss those lower 48 prices. I have a well stocked cabinet--but drink much less and enjoy it more when I do these days.

The worst thing my best friend ever did to me was ask for a fine bottle of liquor for his birthday.

For I got him a bottle of Walker Blue, and he was kind enough to share it with me. And now, there's no going back, I love it so.

You're my boy, Blue... You're my boy.

:)
