Looking for feedback from anyone that has used both of these head sets. I like the much lower profile of the SM-10R but unsure if they are as easy to use day to day or other considerations. Just looking to understand my trade offs before going one way or the other.

I think your confused on model numbers.
The Sena SM-10 is a media streaming device not a head set.

I think you asking about the Sena SMH-10 or SMH-10R which is a headset.

I am using the SMH5-FM.

The difference is it cannot do "conference" with many people. It can only bind to one other headset. But like the SMH10, it can bind to multiple media devices e.g. your GPS, Phone., SM10, etc.
It also has a built in FM radio so if my wife does not want to hear the music I ma playing from my Spyder radio, she can turn on her own radio and listen to whatever she wants. I do not need the conference feature of the SMH10.

I have the SMH 10 and it works fine, I also looked into the low profile unit but I like that I can charge the unit without the helmet. Plus I didn't want the battery stuck on the back of the helmet. There are new units coming out with more range, but the cost could be a lot higher. Talk to site sponsor Motorcycle Dave for a great price on whatever one you decide on.

I am a HUGE Sena fanboi....I have both an SMH10 and a SMH10R. I bought the R for myself and the regular 10 so that my wife and kids could swap it from one helmet to another.
There are pro's and con's for both units but performance is pretty much identical. Sound quality is the same. I really like both, but for different reasons.
-The slim profile of the R is super sweet. Almost like theirs nothing there. The battery on the back is a non-issue. The regular 10 is more bulky but easily moved from helmet to helmet.
-The regular 10 seems to be built better. The R is much more fragile feeling and lighter weight. Probably due to the design and low profile
-Being able to remove the regular 10 to charge and swap it between helmets is a very nice feature.
-Ease of use between the two are similar. They are different, but one isn't noticeably more difficult to use than another.
-They are priced almost identical.

The new Sena 20S that's due out next year is going to be "in between". It's going to be smaller than the regular 10 but not as small as the R. Performance I'd imagine is going to be the same since all the firmware is upgradable and will be using bluetooth 4.
The only thing I'm not into with the 20S is that goofy antenna looking thing that swings out. Also, from what I'm seeing in the pics it doesn't really look that much smaller than the regular 10. The jog dial is thinner and the front is cut at an angle but it looks like the unit itself is very similar in size.

I have the 10R and the only complain is that I find it very hard to turn on/off with cold weather gloves.

On the other hand, it is practically invisible with my black Nolan N104, where the mike boom is inside, and the battery is also hidden inside Nolan's hole the helmet core foam.

Battery life is a solid 10 hrs of continuous bluetooth music streaming while also paired to a cell and GPS.

If I had to do it all over again, I would still buy the 10R.

I have the SMH10 with the universal mics, you can use a boom mic or the one I use on my full face Scorpion is velcroed on the chin bar. The 20S is supposed to have a lot more range.
