New guy question: Whats all the hype with the 2014's?

I've been on the forum all of 3 or 4 days and I am seeing a lot of talk of people trading in their current Spyders (all years) for the 2014. As a new guy thinking of buying a Spyder, I'm curious why everyone is so excited to trade up? I know this means more used ones available for people like me, but the used p rices don't seem to sit too far below the new ones.

engine............... A 1330cc inline triple
transmission....... Six speeds forward, and a new clutch engagement system
cooling system.... Double the capacity, and the radiators are moved forward; away from the riders
charging system.. A 1200 Watt alternator has replaced the 650 watt magneto used in prior years

For the touring models, a new 3-cylinder engine with a little more horsepower (~130hp I think I read), a new clutch design and a 6th forward gear (giving it an "overdrive" gear effectively). However nobody yet knows what new problems will be introduced with these 2014's, so I'd advise patience and let OTHER people do the beta testing 1st if you have to have one! LOL!

The Touring models are larger and heavier than the Sport models, they've been a bit underpowered IMHO (using the same basic 998cc 100hp engine and tranny as the lighter weight Sport models).

I don't know if there are any substantial differences between 2013 and 2014 RS(S) Sport models, I think the engine and tranny will be unchanged for them.

ps. For the 2013 Touring models, there have been quite a few problems reported as they had many new changes from the prior year touring models... there's been some dissatisfaction with the 2013's as such. IDK. :dontknow:

Well, I hope 2014 will have no issues like the earlier model. I can also wait and see. I don't care if I am not the first person to ride one and own one. JMHO

they have been working on this machine for five years and have biggest changes since they started making them. Many changes were wished for since then as well. But we shall see how well it all turns out as they roll of the line and those changes from prototype to street version are tested by Joe public... Test them both and let us know...:thumbup:

For those of us who have been with the brand since the "early days", the 2014 represents a bigger engined, smoother riding RT. I have owned four :spyder2:'s and the 2014 RT will be totally different from them. Three months or so will tell how successful the new :spyder2: will be. I am betting its going to be great.
