Ladies Weekend January 24 - 26 Carlsbad, NM

Okay ladies I know a lot of you are putting your Spyders away for the winter but for some of us the riding season is just getting started. We are planning a Girls' weekend for January 24 - 26 in Carlsbad, NM. A group of us will be leaving Las Vegas (there's a movie by that name LOL) probably on the 22nd and spending a night in Tucson, AZ then on to NM. More details to follow.

Here are the hotel details for Carlsbad, NM We will stay at the Best Western Stevens Inn, 1829 S. Canal, Carlsbad, NM for Jan 24 to the 26th if you book at BestWestern.com the rate ranges from $128 to $142 depending on your available discounts ie AAA, AARP or Military. I called the hotel and they quote a higher rate so book online to get the better rate.


For those of us coming from Las Vegas we will be stopping for the night in Phoenix(Scottsdale) at the Best Western Plus Papago Inn & Resort, 7017 E. McDowell Rd., Scottsdale (480-947-7335) I have reserved a room for the 22nd and the 27th and the Expedia.com rate was $98.53 including tax. This was the best rate I could get there.


From Scottsdale we will be heading to Las Cruces, NM and will stay at the Best Western Mission Inn at 1765 S. Main St., Las Cruces, NM (575-524-8591) I have reserved a room for the 23rd and the 26th online at Bestwestern.com for $77.81 tax included. Again there are variable rates depending on your discount .


I was unable to get group rates as the hotels I contacted needed at least 15 rooms for a rate. If you want to share a room with someone post here and we can match you up.


Of course you are welcome to stay anywhere you please but these seemed to be decent rates for decent rooms.

We will say hey to the ex family for you! I've never been but I'm looking forward to going there. Not for the Caverns but for the riding and friendship. I realized that there are probably bats in them caves and I'm not a fan of bats!

Yep. There's bats in them there caves. We used to go in the evening to watch them leave for the night feeding. Thousands of them. There was a Sci Fi B movie filmed there in 1972 called the Gargoyles. It was filmed on the backside of the caverns.

There is some excellent riding around Cloudcroft and Ruidoso as well.

About the bat issue, we lived in Carlsbad in the '80s and went to the Caverns frequently with family that visited. The part of the cave people walk through has no bats. None. Just very awesome sights.

There's a separate area where you watch the bats fly out in the evening...

That's wild we were thinking the same thing at the same time. :shocked:

Had to nail down some dates in January before I could commit to the road trip.

The bats only come out in the evening and they all exit at the same time. You'll love the caverns chickie ... we're going to have a blast!

Excellent Riding for sure .. I live here and the roads are great! Historic!
