Haven't they become a bit like an appendix; superfluous? :dontknow:

Haven't they become a bit like an appendix; superfluous? :dontknow:

Actually, the appendix may contain useful bacteria, which could help the immune function in your body.

You raising your hand to signal may also get the attention of the driver behind you, which in turn could save your immune system.

Good point!
Although the only useful example of bacteria for me; is when beer ferments...

i ride with a guy that uses tons of hand signals and after he shows me what we are going to do he changes his mind. so i just usually pass him and give him the universal SCREW YOU SIGNAL

The hand signals work well in a group where everyone is not connected by communicator. Just preview the signals you are going to be using so that everyone is on board. They do help to avoid surprises sometimes.

I think most clubs have a few of their own..we have the pat on top of helmet for cops ahead, point over head to left for cycle riders. Then if you ryde behind latinos who speak with their hands you can go crazy..!! :roflblack:

I have been ridding with the same 15 or 20 bikes the first sat. of every month for about the last 8 years.Someone different will pick the destination for that month and lead the ride. The only ruel we have is that you stay in the same position that you started the ride in.That saves a lot of jocking around after a stop.We never have used hand signals.I like to ride behind a gal in our group who rides a loud Harley.I can look around and enjoy the sites but as soon as I hear her get off the gas I know its time to start paying attention again.I don't know if there is anyone in our group that could learn all of those signals, including me:banghead:

Kind of sad that so many folks want to make a joke of a serious original post. Group riding is enhanced when everyone is conscious and considerate of each other. Common hand signals are very helpful when people that do not normally ride together are on a group ride. They also help everyone pay attention. It sure can ruin the ride when someone runs into you or a hazard because you didn't think it was important to signal.

You will have no trouble getting that information from the AMA I think they even have posters
that can be put up on your club house wall showing them. If you call 1-800-AMA-JOIN or go to the
AMA website. www.americanmotorcyclist.com
Good luck & ride safe.

Yes, but not totally. They're still useful while group riding and not everyone has electronic communications. Dale

Yea. I use the raised middle finger quite routinely; to smacktards turning L in front of me, morons on their cell phones attempting to run me over, and angry horn honkers. What? Oh! You meant the normal hand signals; like turning "n stuff. Oops! My bad! :opps:
