This weekend I am riding in the San Diego Ride for Kids, a charity fund raiser that supports the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. This ride is all about these brave kids that are in the fight of their lives. I was so touched by the strength and courage these kids display, the very first time I attended, I promised myself then and there I would be attending The Ride for Kids as long as I can ride and even after. I am now a task force leader for the San Diego ride, and I spend a large part of the year raising money to fight and find a cure for this horrible disease.
My riding club (Spyder Ryder of America - San Diego Chapter) collects money all year long, to donate to the San Diego ride, last year we collected and donated just over $5000 to help the kids and their families. Our goal this year is $7500

The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation® (PBTF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization that seeks to

find the cause of and cure for childhood brain tumors by supporting medical research
increase public awareness about the severity and prevalence of childhood brain tumors
aid in the early detection and treatment of childhood brain tumors
support a national database on all primary brain tumors
provide educational and emotional support for children and families affected by this life-threatening disease.

It all began with friends helping friends. When a colleague’s child was diagnosed with a brain tumor, motorcyclists Mike and Dianne Traynor wanted to do something to help. In 1984 they held the first Atlanta Ride for Kids to raise money for research.

As the event’s popularity grew, the concept expanded to other cities. The PBTF was established in 1991 to fund research and offer family support programs.

Mike and Diane Traynor will be inducted to the AMA hall of Fame (in the Ambassadors & Industry group) at this years ceremony for their work to unite motorcyclists against pediatric brain tumors, and in doing so "they created hope for children afflicted with brain tumors,”.

Today the PBTF is the world’s largest non-governmental source of funding for childhood brain tumor research. We support projects that focus on children and encourage the development of new therapies to improve treatments, increase survivorship and improve quality of life.
Our family support resources include this website, newsletter, online broadcasts and educational booklets, many of which are available in English and Spanish. Since 2002, we have provided more than 1,000 awards to brain tumor survivors who want to continue their education beyond high school.

There are 41 rides coast to coast each year.
