Hi all,

So I eventually wish to get a Scala G9, But at the moment I am a bit tight and rather hold off on the $350 for it.

For the time being I was wondering if anybody has tried either of these types of products:

the first is a wired intercom system like the one below:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/RIDER-TO-PASSENGER-NOISE-CANCELLING-MOTORCYCLE-HELMET-TO-HELMET-HEADSET-INTERCOM-/360736003860?pt=Intercoms_Access_Controls&hash=item53fd8a9714

The other is the maxon 49-hx

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAXON-49-HX-HANDS-FREE-COMMINCATIOR-W-REMOTE-MOUNT-BUTTON-WORKS-NICE-/271268926894?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f28e355ae

i have somebody around here selling a pair for $30.

And i have a last option,, perhaps a little bit more. Any suggestions on the no name brands, has anybody used them? such as the one below:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-1-BT-500m-Motorbike-Interphone-Motorcycle-helmet-intercom-Headset-/300921360296?pt=Intercoms_Access_Controls&hash=item46104f8fa8

I know, you get what you pay for. But thanks for the advice.

Thanks

Before you buy anything just remember... you get what you pay for.
Having said that if you want to get a low cost unit go to your local Cycle Gear store
or find them on line, that way you can go in and see them in the flesh and not just a nice
picture on the internet. I am sure they will let you try them out in the store.
Good luck

I used ot just tap the Missus on the knee; she'd lean forward, and we'd yell at each other... it workd great for a year...
Then we found the ScalaRider Teamset Pro intercom system on EBay... THAT works a heckuva lot better! :2thumbs:
Shop carefully; you may just find a bargain on a quality unit someplace!
Besides; hunting, is more than half of the fun anyway! :D

You gotta buy two of those to make an intercom !!

We used a set like that for 2.5 years as a bike to bike intercom. No issues, they worked well. When the battery died in one we switched to SENA SMH-5's.

If you do decide on the no name make sure you get a pair of them

For $11.95 this is a good deal but would they work on my plug under the seat?

hi nhoj,,

how do you compare the no name to the smh5? glad that they did work for you.

jerpinoy - i believe you might clamp the unit to your belt buckle and the passenger would be tethered to you. im guessing.

thx

I can tell you we tried that first link you posted...... What a piece of junk that was. It went in the garbage after one ride. All we heard was wind noise and that was in fullface helmets. The dangling cords alone would make you go crazy........ JUNK JUNK JUNK

I'm not sure of Daves prices but, If you can swing $228.00 (with free shipping) you can get the best intercom on the planet (Sena SMH10) at a great price !!!!!!! Do your research, even the top if the line Scala system (the G9) isn't as good as this Sena SMH10 system. We found it better because you can purchase a optional earbud clamp and run all the sound through high quality earbuds. My only complaint about this unit out of the box is, the speakers are kind of tinny (no bass). But the volume is great and it works like a champ,, so if you care less about bass for your music this system out of the box works perfectly.

Sena SMH10 Dual pack (2 units)

We bought ours from the same EBAY seller listed below and it was a perfect transaction with very fast shipping.... we absolutely love it. Just read the reviews and you will see for yourself the Sena SMH10 is amazing.

I have to agree.....you get what you pay for! Save up for an SMH10 or Scala Cardo wireless or Starcom1 wired unit and don't waste some of your savings on a cheap unit in the meantime. Static, road noise, intermittent communications, and other nuisances are not worth the trouble that the cheap units cause.

we both have mini's (red and white) in the garage next to our spyders. We both used the tap on the knee or knock on the helmet and yelling for intercom. We both moved up to the ScalaRider Teamset Pro from EBay. I did give our to our son and his fiance and I searched out on EBay and got a G9. Great feature being able to pair up with other ryders and keep intercom...

But as to the posters search..there are a lot of rydres who have upgraded or switched and have used units for sale..keep checking..!!

hi nhoj, how do you compare the no name to the smh5? glad that they did work for you.

If you only want helmet to helmet intercom for TWO people, no phone, gps or music functions then they work well...but... The SENA's sound better, pair up better/easier with GPS and phones. The SENA'a sound better and a much missed feateure, the SENA's have a far superior mounting system.

The cheaper no names may serve you well but eventually you'll end up with a Brand Name.

We chose the SENA SMH-5's over the 10's as we did not the feel the increased cost of the 10's offered us any useable value.

Like others who have responded before I've tried the cheap. The $11.95 model went into the trash. The model Bluetooth -1-BT-500 didn't last one trip. Adhesive on speakers was horrible, they were falling out out the helmet before we traveled a hundred miles. Luckily the reseller took them back for a refund. Ended up with Scala teamset for 2 years before battery died on one unit. Purchased the Sena 10 this year and am well satisfied. Others have mentioned the BT GPS and phone connection, another plus for us is the ability to easily program the units to push-to-talk. Helps stop the constant wind noise we had with the Scalas.

Buying cheap is not a good option IMO. As others have posted, you get what you pay for. I recommend holding off until you can buy a Sena or a Scala/Cardo unit. I am on my first season with the Sena and am very happy. Previously used Scala for several seasons.

Hi guys,

First off thank you very much for all of your good advice. I really believe what most of you said above. Try to get the right thing, or better not to waste your money. And you do get what you pay for. It would be a waste to spend $11 if it doesnt work, and if you have to pay $400 and it works, then it is worth it. It has been unfortunately a tough time for me in my business, but that being said it is the spyder that gives me the only satisfaction and lets me forget about those issues.

I am a new rider. And i am refreshing the screen every 5 minutes and looking at the weather in lake george to see if i can go to spyderquest. My wife is not die hard enough to ride in the rain. And i will only go if she goes with me. And if we go then its a 3 hour ride each way and hours of riding there, a communication system is a must to enjoy the ride AND even more so for safety.

SO with all that said. I decided to go with the Scala G9 powerset :). i found a deal at $349. I wanted to go with the sena smh10. I think for the money it is a better deal. and it is probably equivalent if not plus minus better. But one of my friends that i ride with has the scala also, and i ride with him alot. without the scala i wont be able to talk to him.

cant wait for it to come :).

thanks again guys..
