Mod Prototype - Passenger peg extensions

I don't have a machine shop, so what you see is my prototype. I'll smooth the edges, round it down at the corners, and try to swirl buff them. Later, I hope to take them to a shop and have them fabricated.

1" X 1" X 24" alunimum stock ($10.00 value)
Female Pegs - Drag Specialties PN DS253405
7/16" X 2" bolts (2)
1/4-20 hex head bolts (4)

Cut extension to 6 1/2"
Cut offset to 2 1/2"

Cut inset in extension to fit offset 1/8" deep
Cut offset to fit peg flanges
Drilled holes
Tapped for 7/16" and 1/4"-20 bolts

Looks really good. But I see one problem. If you or your passenger stand on them with thier full weight. You could possibly break the Spyder aluminium mount bracket. Kinda like adding a long piece of pipe to a wrench due to the added length of your foot peg.

She weighs between 95 and 110 pounds depending on how often we go out to eat. She uses my peg to get on, and even did with the stock pegs installed. I had her stand on it the check flex in the mount. I was barely noticeable, if at all. The pressure exerted while driving is forward, not down. She had no problem during above speed turns on our test ride(s). Those BRP brackets are stout.

What about the clearance between her foot and your foot? It looks like her toes would be touching your heels. Most importantly, how does she like it for riding? Is it more comfortable?

My feet don't sit horizonal on my pegs. My heels are up somewhat.

In the straight away shot, you can see her feet are several inches from what "could be" my heels. I was going to make them longer, but I needed to leave access to the parking brake.

After several test rides, she stood up on the pegs, and bounced on them. She stood on both pegs, full weight. The 1" stock wll not flex, and the BRP bracket is stout.

In the seated position, the force during turns is not straight down. It's at about 20 to 30 degrees off perpendicular. That pressure is basically pushing on the extension/offset connection more than any downward pressure on the BRP bracket. The extension/offset connection is secured by a 2 1/2" 7/16" bolt tapped 1 1/2" into the offest piece. She doesn't have the bone strength to brake the connections in the even of an inadvertant event.

I feel confident that these are made strong enough for "my" application.

The angle is not great, but the passenger peg is farther out than the rider peg.
