Soooo... What if I only had enough time tonight to replace one of the OEM links with one of Ron's? :opps:
Can I finish the job on Thursday; or could there be damage?

I don't see what the harm could be. Even if they are slightly different in overall center to center length all that would do is load the bar slightly, attempting to induce a slight lean. Couldn't be enough to be noticed at all. From what I could see, the length was the same anyways.

I don't recommend it. My links are a bit longer than stock. Uneven links will pre-load the sway bar. I don't think it will necessarily hurt anything. But then I haven't tested it either.

I find that hard to believe but I've seen those posts. I've ridden my GS without a sway bar and it's pretty noticeable. Not really dangerous as long as you take it easy. But no fun either. I was glad I didn't have to go very far that way.

Seriously Bob? It takes what..5 min on a ramp to change it. Go out and get it done

Remember; we're tlaking about MY meager mechanical skills here... :opps: It took me an hour to do the first one... :opps::opps::opps::opps:
The Missus will be out and about on Thursday evening, and it's raining today, so I think that this is going to work out okay! :ohyea::yes: http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_33_15.gif

Hey Bob, you could have changed out that other link in the time it took to post and reply to this. Step away from the keyboard and grab a wrench. :doorag:

That would not be a natural act for Bob.

That's actually not even close to being true...
Getting the A-arm cover off was a major trial and error effort... I finally found an 8mm socket that I could use with an adapter on a very short 3/8 drive extension...
Getting eyes on the upper link mount was another issue...
This seriously DOES stretch my meager abilities.:opps:

However; I do have to say that after seeing how those parts are knit together; the 2013s have a MAJOR advantage in strength! They're supported on both sides, and the bracketry bridges the gap on the A-arms; making them stronger. Our older bikes just kind of have the mount tacked onto the front strut of the arm...

:hun: Mistake one you don't need to take the cover off. You do however need to get it up on ramps to get it from underneath or the ability to be REALLY good under the sheets :roflblack:

From what I could tell with my paws; it seemed that popping those covers was the easiest way to have enough access to them...
I need lots of ifghting room around "Ground Zero", when I go in for the kill!

He needs two wrenches, or a wrench and a socket....both in 13mm. An 8 mm socket or nut driver would be helpful too, to pull off the plastic a-arm cover.

Bob Denman

I actually dug out the proper tools
13mm shorty wrench
13mm 1/4" drive socket with an adapter; hanging off of a 3/8" drive ratchet...
8mm socket... this one got to be fun...
first I tried a 1/4" drive ratchet: too tought to manipulate up under there... I couldn't keep it in place!
Then I tried a socket driver: too long for up under the bike...
Finally; the socket, a 3/8" drive adapter, and a stubby 3/8" extension gave me enough leverage to use it like a screwdriver, yet have fighting room around it.
Finding the tools was an early part of the process that slowed me down a bit...
The USING of them was the other ugly part of this game... :yikes:

You don't have to worry about your Spyder throwing codes with this setup. You'll never see them!

I discovered Bob's mechanical skills problem.

To many moving parts when it gets greater than ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:agree: Particularly when they have to be put together with a bolt, a washer, and a nut! :gaah: Someday I'll keep track of how many times I drop parts during an install; it would horrify you all!

Well I got link #2 in place last evening!:2excited:
The first one took me an hour... :opps:
But I must have been paying attention; this one took half as long! :2thumbs:
They sure look like the nicest "hidden farkle" that I've ever added to the bike!
It's a shame that they just can't be seen...

So which is the one that supposedly came out of the "bad batch"?
:agree: BajaRon's are a great upgrade!
(And after having spent some time up underneath mine; I can see the improvements in the design of the new A-arms! :2thumbs:)
