Howdy everyone;

Went on my first motorcycle run today. I did not know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. It was a benefit for under privileged school kids. $25 ride fee plus I bought a backpack that I thought some little girl would like. Not ever doing this as I said I didn't know what to expect. It was well organized and started on time. Also bought a tee shirt which I thought was cool. It was a 80 mile run and there were more police officers then I have ever seen in one place. We stared out and the entire 80 miles had a police officer at ever single stop light. We did not have to stop once except at about 35 miles we puled into a school to stretch our legs use the rest rooms and get some water. There were about 250 to 300 2 wheelers of every make you can imagine. They were first in line and then the 3 wheelers. I saw 4 or 5 Spyders and about about 29 Goldwings. The only problem we had was some idiots in cars got tired of waiting and got in front of me and before I could get around them we were way back from the line. I got up to 85 mph before we caught up. My analog gas gauge was half full after about 30 miles and started to blink before we finished the run. It was at 90 miles it stayed on. So 110 miles is how far it was from my house to the end of the run. I have a 1gal. container of gas so was not worried. I know this is long but wanted you to know from where we ended the run to my house is about 40 miles. I drove all the way back home and into my garage and had traveled 150 miles. The gas gauge was way past the empty mark. Most of the run was in 2nd and 3rd gear. I am anxious to see how much it will tomorrow. Can't close before saying met lots of nice people. And was invited to ride with some.

Escorted runs are fun and a chance to meet people.
Self guided runs can go either way. In either case, if you do not feel comfortable, safely wave the others on bye and get out. the same with registering, if you get strange looks, coments, leave. I would not/have not let the type of dealer stop me. I would guess more HD dealers sponsor runs, then anybody else ( I am ducking). I used to go on a lot them. not so good on long rides now. I have had very few "bad" coments and lots of good ones/questions, both on 2002 ST110, 2008 GS, 2010 RT (leaving the early ones out of this).
One was guy making fun of the GS ( HD Rally). Another member said, look at the Spyder speedometer, he has 10k on a 08, you have lees then 7 k on your 01.
Anyway, have fun, Ride safe, enjoy life

Glad you enjoyed your run. Have the dealer disconnect the gauge and use the bar graft on the display.

Oldmanzues you must of been reading a different thread then the on I wrote. This was the 5th annual run put together by the KNUE radio station and had nothing what so ever to do with any Dealership. It was the station employees including several Disc Jockeys. I think a lot of the police officers were volunteering their time also. Maybe I didn't explain it clearly and probably should have mention it on this site.

Doug, glad you had a good ride. Having a police escort really makes it nice

Glad your first was a good one. There will be more and the escorted ones are the best. As for the gas/mileage situation, there are a lot of variables. The dial gauge is known to be misleading. Many have disconnected it and replaced it with some thing else. Once disconnected your digital gauge will work on the instrument panel. We have gotten up to 186 miles to a tank but never consider it the norm. Found the best is to start looking for a station when the warning light comes on..:thumbup:
