Had this happen to me on my trip and by pushing down on it while playing with the key and electric release it finally opened. I also had trouble closing it one time and had me puzzled and what it was is my Spyder was park off cambered and when closing the lid it did not line up properly at the latch and would not close. Just by pushing it to one side while latching all was good. Later tried on level ground and all was OK there too.

if the electric release is not doing it even when pressing on the hood at the latch point, press on and off while some one presses the key in and turns to the left (counter clockwise) good luck..!!

If you get it to open by pushing down on the lid while turning the key be sure to check the trunk liner gasket before you close it again. I have found that if the rubber gasket is not perfectly lined up the trunk may get stuck. The other cause is overfilling the trunk.

Maybe you should pick up the check. Sorry.
Have you tried both locks, key switch and electric?

What is happening when you either push the button, or turn the key? Is it making any sounds (clicking?), or are you being met with silence?

Happened to the wife the other day. She came to me saying that the "stupid trunk" wouldnt open on her RS... I went over and after pushing it in a few times and playing with the key it opened. I looked in and saw what the problem was... She had a helmet, 2 jackets, her purse, and the spyder full cover in there... I was like "no wonder"... But kept that to myself....lol... Not stupid...lol...:banghead::duh:

Bob, there is no sounds at all. It just won't budge. Tries spraying a little WD 40 in but no help.

I assume you've tried everything.

Sometimes our frunk gets caught in a no mans land between locked and unlocked.
Here's a really stupid question.
Did you try a nice hard pull?

Yes pulled as hard as I thought was prudent. Did not want to break hood,

Yes pulled as hard as I thought was prudent. Did not want to break hood,

Pulling usually won't do it. You have to push down hard on the center, top where the latch is, while simultaneously pushing the ignition key down and turning it counter clockwise. If you feel resistance while turning, that is good...the cable is working. From there on out it is a matter of getting the latch to release. Sometimes banging the lid with your hand while the key remains turn will do the job. Anything that pushes up on the lid interferes with the latch release.

If you get it open, check carefully for weather stip that is pulled off the flange, a trunk liner improperly installed over the weatherstrip instead of under, a bent microswitch arm, or a trunk too full of stuff. Lubricate the latch mechanism to make things work easier. The latch may also need to be adjusted...particularly if the electric release doesn't work readily.

Okay; it doesn't say here, but I'm guessing that you've got a 2012 RTS; right?
And you've tried the pushbutton?
With the ignition on?
With the bike running?

And you've tried using the ignition switch to unlock it?
With somebody firmly pushing down over the latching area?

Can you push down on the funklid, and then try to just move it from side to side a bit? Is there any play in there so that you can move it around a little? :dontknow:
If you can; try unlocking it again using all of the above methods...
Otherwise... it looks as if it might end up being a trip to a dealership for something a bit more creative...
Good Luck! Please let us know what happens next!

Agreed.

First, please say that the dealer told you what happened or what the problem was and its fix. Second, please relay to us (FOR FUTURE REFERENCE) what the fix was.

These are the things that help when one of us in the future might run into the same problem.

And the problem/solution was???

I had the same issue and my problem has been that both of my cables broke. First the seat cable, and currently the truck cable is sitting where I can reach it till I can get home again.

We were headed to WV for vacation and I read on this site to make a little fail safe for the frunk with a small wire from the latch to the oil tank area. Since I had lots of stuff off for the ron bar install and oil change I put the wire on to release the frunk in an emergency. Didn't need it but it was there. Thanks to the people here and this site.
