Recommended tire pressure

ive read the manual regarding tire pressure for front and rear.

Just reaching out to see what experiences other riders have to make those tires last as long as possible and a smooth ride!

On my 2012 RT I've always run 18 psi in the fronts and 27 in the rear and changed out the rear at 12,000 miles. Replaced the fronts at 14,000 but that was because I rotated them from side to side (dismounted and remounted because they're directional) and could not get them rebalanced again. Rather than mess with it I just replaced them.

My wife managed to get 13,000 out of her rear and she still has the original fronts at 14,000. I looked at them this morning and my guess is that the wear bars are still a long ways down so she probably will get close to 20,000. She runs her tires at 16 psi in the front and 27 rear.

I think tire mileage is also dependent on what kind of weight the Spyder carries and where the shocks are set (and whether you may use a stronger sway bar). For example, I weigh 235# and run my rear shocks in the firmest setting with the fronts at level 4. She weighs 138# and uses the softest rear setting and has the fronts at level 3.

Neither Spyder has ever run two up so that will also have a bearing on tire life. We also both pull trailers and about half of our travel is with trailers in tow and that will also impact tire life.

you will get a lot of different suggestions. You have to consider solo /double up, the roads you ride the weather, your ryding style etc. I have seen OEM tires last from 8,000 to 24,000 fronts almost double as rears. We have a 2012 RS, ryde double up back roads and mountain roads some freeway. Have an aggressive style. We currently have 8,500 miles with little sign of wear. Won't know if this is good till I need a new tire. Good luck..!! :thumbup:

I had a 2008 GS and ran 18 psi front. On my 13 STS with the lower profile tires 18 psi made the front end very rough on bumps and pavement joints. I like 16 psi so far.

With the lower profile tires on the 2013s, they seem to like a bit lower pressure up front. I'd start at 15-17 front and 26-28 rear, and work from there. If there is a minmum tire pressure listed on the fronts, do not go below it. Remember that tire pressures are for cold inflation pressures. Measure befor you ride. It costs nothing to experiment a bit, if you have an air source at home. Start with the pressures above, or those recommended in your manual, and play with it until you find your favorite.

Yes that is what the owners manual reads. However on the tire itself it reads 15 to 30. This is a good example of which is right. I will not go under 15 and allow for some room in case i drop a wee bit of tire preasure. I am running 17.5 in the front and 28 in the back on my ST Limited at this time.
