Do you know the date when the Continental Congress actually voted for independence? John Adams stated that that date would be remembered in the annals of American history.

Do you know the official date of signing of the Declaration of Independence?

It was funny listening to those people; I think.

If my school history class memory is correct, 1787 was the first signing by five states. The other states signed at various times and i think the last state, Rhode Island (?) signed in 1790. Did I win the prize????

I believe The Declaration of Independance was signed July 2, 1776. It was printed July 4, 1776.

I believe The Declaration of Independance was signed July 2, 1776. It was printed July 4, 1776.

What I found; they are not my words:

"One of the most widely held misconceptions about the Declaration of Independence is that it was signed on July 4, 1776. In fact, independence was formally declared on July 2, 1776, a date that John Adams believed would be “the most memorable epocha in the history of America.” On July 4, 1776, Congress approved the final text of the Declaration. It wasn’t signed until August 2, 1776."

Every time I see one of these videos I am totally shocked. People don't know who the President is, the Vice President, or even the members of Congress that they supposedly voted for.

If you go into history, it gets even worse.

I have said this before, but repeating here does seem appropriate. As a college teacher, teaching a technical subject (accounting) as well as general business courses, I am appalled at the lack of general knowledge that some students have when they come out of high school. They don't read well, can't write proper English, and don't know much math either. I am not talking the hard stuff either. Simple addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

The students who don't get the material in my courses--don't pass. I refuse to stick a band aid on them and call them fit.

When our generation (those born in the mid-40's) passes on, it scares me a little about the future of our country.

Sorry for the rant--but this is one subject I feel very strongly about. :(

In looking at the government leadership we have... it is quite apparent these people vote.

And they will continue to vote as long as they get something for nothing...

Sorry... but I had to say it.
