I saw in a post that one mod an owner had done was to add a deer alert. I've never used one and wonder if many people do and if they work. Of course that is hard to prove if you never hit a deer. I wonder if Lamont had one on his bike. Any thoughts?:dontknow:

:agree: The deer might hear them; there's no guarantee what they'll do with that knowledge...

The question to ask is has anyone hit a deer in the daytime (at night the headlights may blind a deer and cause them to freeze so that wouldn't count) while they had the deer alerts on their vehicle.

You got me with that one. I don't have to look up words often but I did this one.

I like that word! Thanks!

I had to look it up too! Yep, great word! No answer to the question asked, but great word nonetheless!!

I'm sure someone can show you statistics which indicate they don't work and someone else can find statistics that show they do work. I'll just say they work as well as those magnets you may place under your spyder to make it past those traffic light loops.

I do have a deer alert on my spyder along with the magnet. Statistics show the deer alert only works on 2008 SM5's which are red, as long as you are also using the magnet.

Sorry, not quite as laconic as BajaRon.

They work as well as a Colonic. And worth about half as much. How's that for Laconic?

Doesn't look like we will come to a conclusion on the deer whistle. But 'Laconic' is a hit!

I put the deer deterrent horns on my truck. I didn't hit any deer, but I hit about 10 birds in the first week...I had had never hid a single bird before! nojoke

I took them off because I got sick of cleaning the truck's windshield!

I hit one at dusk, but it was right after I came over the crest of a hill, and could have blocked the whistles sound!:dontknow: I know before my dog passed away, she would ride in the back of the car, with her head out the window and at a certain speed, she would start to whine, always thought it was the whistles! I have also had friends follow me and say they saw a deer come out of the bush and suddenly stop! Again :dontknow:! That being said I have hit three, two without whistles, and one with. I have them on the Spyder and car , I figure for the price, what do you have to lose!

They work as well as garlic to ward off vampires. I haven't hit a deer, and I haven't seen a vampire either. ;)

'Round here, the mule deer and elk just stand in the middle of the road trying to stare you down; as if sayin' "bring it on".

Ask anyone who hit a deer that had them, A nice deer rifle works best.

Interesting reading. You judge for yourself. Its like gambling at the casino. You alway try to tweak the odds in your favor.

but while in Texas we sold a ton of them..gotta say did not have folks bring in their bikes to repair from a deer incounter. Now poles, cars, fences etc. A lot but then there is no whistle for them..!! :roflblack:

I am sure that a deer will hear the deer whistle. He may even be frightened by it. He could even run away! But which way? Towards you or away from you? I don't think there's enough grey matter resident to help the deer avoid anything. When I was younger and did a lot of mule deer hunting we would blow a police whistle at a running deer. They would always stop turn and look at us. Of course that was the last thing they saw.

Dang it Bob you stole my joke!!:lecturef_smilie: :roflblack:

My wife swears by them. She has them in her car and on her RS-S. She says she's seen deer on the side of the road move opposite when she's on the road. BTW she has the $10.00 Wally World version installed.

But for that matter, $10.00 is a cheap gamble. JMHO

Good Day I have deer alerts on my Spyder I ride on country road for 12 miles each direction 5 days a week
deer are very prevalent in my neck of the woods. All I can say I had 3 near misses at 4AM on my way to work
50-70 miles an hour. Since adding the deer alert to the front last summer I have not seen any. Maybe the placebo
effect but I feel better. I'm thinking of adding the bump skid Lamonster makes just in case they fail. It is important
that they are even with no obstruction between them so they can hit the frequency's necessary for warning the
animals. Good luck

This thread reminds me of what almost happened to us on our new Spyder yesterday evening. We took our first mini road trip (90 miles roundtrip) to eat at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants yesterday afternoon, returning home just at dark. We were about ten minutes from getting home and all of a sudden a baby fawn showed up on the highway in front of me. I was cruising at about 60mph and was afraid of swerving hard as I am still getting the feel of how the Spyder turns, especially at higher speeds. I came within inches of hitting that little deer. I am pretty sure that even though it was a small baby, it would have caused some serious problems for us. The funny thing is that my wife just recently purchased four of these deer alarms mentioned in this thread and we have yet to put them on any of our vehicles. I think that if I put one on our Spyder, it surely wouldn't hurt.

i put them on and consider it a $9.95 investment. i'm sure i've made better investments and i think i've made worst, but as long as i don't hit a deer, so far it's been a good investment! nojoke
