Sway Bar and shocks question

I have a 2012 RSS. I am hearing all the talk about BajaRon Sway bar and Elka shocks making a big improvement in the handling, mostly from the RT group. I am wondering if anyone with a newer RSS has made this mod and what the results were.

Ron came out with a bar for the RS sereis first; there's a lot of folks in here who've bought them.
I don't recall ever hearing anything but praise for his bars.
Try the bar first; you might not even feel the ned to change the shocks!

Do the bar, skip the shocks. The Fox shocks you have are already a nice improvement over what a lot of us started with...

The most imprpvement per dollarcomes from changing the sway bar.

Here is the way to see it:

Anti-Sway bar= handles curves and turns
Shocks= handles road pavement conditions

You can do both, but the sway bar is the cheapest way to go, especially if you have Fox shocks. In fact, my wife changed her stock shocks on her RS-S to 2012 RT shocks and loves it!

My 08 GS has the anti-sway bar and 2012 RT shocks. I love the way it handles.

we have a 2012 RS and installed the BajaRon sway bar. This is the most significant change in handling we have seen. We still have the stock shocks and re-adjusted to have a real fun machine. I hear the stock RT shocks make it even better and elkas as well. Expensive and we don't feel we need more at the moment. Maybe later on (part two)..:ohyea:

Hi i have a 2012 RSS with Fox shocks that i had set pretty firm between 4 & 5 when i had the stock bar and in the wind or being passed by a semi i felt like i was being pushed to the side since i added the Ron bar i have backed off the shocks to maybe the 2-3 setting and it rides smooth and handles well in the curves and nolonger gets pushed side to side,i now can have a more soft and comfortable ride and feel more stable in turns i for one suggest getting the new sway bar and ride like u stole it.

The shock relocators would fall under the definition of shocks since it is an mod and a improvement.

Good assessment. Where do u think the relocators fit in??? I have the sway bar only. It made a huge difference.

I think the sway bar is more for the handling and the shocks and relocater deal with how it rides on uneaven roads and small pot holes with all installed u should have a verry good handling and smooth ride.

The relocators give the shocks more leverage advantage over the suspension, essentially making them stiffer both in dampening and spring rate.

The shocks do several jobs, one of which is to work with the sway bar. As you enter a turn the shocks help to slow the rate of motion or lean (they have a dampening effect). The trick is to get the right amount of dampening from your shocks without making the ride stiff or harsh.

The sway bar transfers weight from the outside wheel to the inside wheel, flattening out the turn and increasing tread contact with the road. The Sway Bar also transfers some weight to the rear wheel.

All of this reduces lean and increases traction. The same thing happens in cross winds or when passing a large truck at freeways speeds.

I have a 2011 RS-S, with the BajaRon Sway bar it made a big improvement to the handling in the corners and a smooth ride on the highway. The improvement of the shocks on the 2012 RS-S all you should need is the BajaRon Sway bar. Try the sway bar first and if you the rougher flatter racing ride add the Elka shocks. That's IMHO.

I did exactly the same on my 2009 GS. Great difference and I only wish my 2013 ST handled so well.

I posted a similar question a couple of weeks ago, and followed the advice of the fine people on this forum. Had the Baja Ron anti-sway bar installed this afternoon, and rode back up the mountain to my house. Wow, what a difference. Nice and flat around corners:yes:. I still have the stock shocks - may do the RT conversion and the relocater, but for now going to enjoy the new ride. DO AS THEY SAY! DO AS THEY SAY!!! :agree:

I have an '09 GS and we did shocks from a 2011 RT first and then later added the sway bar. I think mine needed both : ) I'm not sure if an RSS with the already better shocks would benefit as much from the shocks, but the sway bar is awesome.
