How well do you think a Porsche 914 transaxle would hold up to a small V8?

run away from that as fast as you can.
Why?

Why?

If you intend to use the ponies you're going to put in front of it. It may hold up for one hole shot.

There used to be an outfit called Crown Engineering, they built a VW transaxle that was good for 300 HP, if you flip the ring gear carrier, you will reverse the output rotation. Don't know if Crown is around anymore, but the transaxle they built for me held up to a Grand National V-6 in a microbus for me.

Thanks, I found a web site that makes adaptors and they recommend a 900 series behind a V8 plus the shifter location would work better than a reversed VW trans. Thought I would solicit some opinions. Just working on another crazy idea in my head.

I seem to recall a buid-up of a "Kit Car" called the SC 1. They put a Porsche transaxle behind the engine that was modified so as to handle to horspeower, and run upside down. (Behind; rhater than in front of the mill...)
It was on the T.V. Show "GEARZ"

I guess it depends on the V8 and its state of tune. A small Rover / Lotus Ford V8 or Buick 3.5L might be fine, OTOH a small block 289 or 350 supercharged or NOS'd might be a "hey y'all hold mah beer" moment suitable for Youtube.
