i just bought a new 2013 RS. When i shut it off it has a low volume, high pitch sound. it sounds like it is coming from the engine area or under the dash. Does anyone have an idea of what the sound is coming from?

Something to do with the throttle body and totally normal. Will likely go on for 30 minutes or so. I'm sure someone will chime in with the technicals and then reason.

It's a shut down process, much like windows shutting down, involving the throttle body for one. Does take some time..

Does anyone have an idea of what the sound is coming from?According to my dealer, that is pressure escaping from the fuel system to prevent gas build-up and back-fire at next start-up.

Not quite accurate, but it is the right idea. It is the sound made when the ECM holds the throttle butterflies closed after shutoff, to prevent fuel saturation in the intake manifold. That fuel saturation, combined with the repeated cold start routine, often flooded the 2010 RTs on hot restarts.

At least now I understand the 2010 hot start issue...never knew why. Thanks Scotty.
