That was a must do every summer with my aussie. The stick tights and cockle-burs made it just plain mandatory. Not to mention being able to spot ticks.

Well actually, he was supposed to be a mini, both of his parents are miniature Australian Shepherds but he ended up much bigger. My dog is 19-20 inches tall and over 40 pounds so he does not meet the size requirements. He is 3 now. I finally had to start cutting his hair last year, it was out of control. Also he does not like hot weather and by hot weather I mean over 80 degrees so he needs a short hair cut in the summer, I like your idea of shaving, it looks good. Rabtech, he would have to play with your dogs in the winter time because he would not do well with an Alabama summer. He has problems with some of our NC mountain weather days!6945269453

His name is Odie. He was 15 when he passed away. I had him since he was 7 Weeks old. He was really cool. He had a personality! He could talk to you and really amaze people with how much he could do.

He was blind and deaf for his last year of life. We would physically carry him out to go to the bathroom. There was no problem knowing when to because he would tell you.

What a sweet face! We (spydercowboy and I) lost our Smudge at 15 also. As a puppy she had to have the ball of one femur removed before it broke off as it was badly cracked (she was a rescue); vet said tissue would form a false joint and she would live a normal life. Towards the end, you could tell just by looking at her that she was in pain and miserable because of the "false" hip -- never a word of complaint, though. During Smudge's life we had two different Dachsunds, neither of which liked the pug (go figure, mutual hate society). The last couple of years, Smudge really bonded with our "Deer Chihuahua" and we figured that little Abby would miss her terribly once Smudge passed. Boy were we wrong .... the "tormentor" (the second Dachsund, Daisy) wandered around the house for DAYS looking for her!

Sigh ... Pugs, in my opinion, are a unique dog and have a sweetness about them that seems to be missing in many other breeds.

Thanks for sharing your pictures .... Ann

I used to use a smaller dog trimmer. I went to Tractor Supply about 2 years ago and bought a set of "sheep shearers" and they work really well. I still have to go over the big guy a couple of times to get the stripes out.
