I said I would post if anything interesting happened.

Took my spyder in for service in late Sept. 2012--just before the end of the season. Had the valve adjustment work done at 28,000 miles. They said the valves were within tolerence and needed no adjusting.

Put the bike to bed for the winter a couple weeks later when the first ice and snow came. Woke her up on 4/20/13. After about 2000 miles or so, I noticed an oil drip under the :spyder2:. Had to take BKWIDO in for her third rear tire (about 30,000 miles) and asked the dealer to find the leak.

Turns out that the valve cover gasket was the culprit. There was some granular stuff on the gasket preventing a perfect seal. Oil started leaking, and it took a while for the leak to make itself known on my garage floor.

Bottom line: the dealer put 8 labor hours into the job over and above the tire change out. They did not charge me the extra $800 to find and fix the leak. They also installed new gaskets. No hassle, no problem.

My dealer is: Team CC of Eagle River and Wasilla AK.
