It make that noise too, but I don't worry. It sounds nicer than my buddy's HD trikes reverse.

Just because....

It is normal, don't worry about it.

I'm glad it does. It removes any doubt it's in reverse, besides checking the console. Also sugests the reversig relay has not failed!

It's known as a reassuring clunk or, a good clunk.

There are some bad clunks out there but usually not from going into reverse.

There are good clunks, and bad clunks. What you are experiencing is normal--at least on all four :spyder2:'s I have owned.

My 2013 RT-S does the same exact thing. I thought it was to let me know it was in reverse:dg2:

More noticeable on mine going into 1st gear reminds me of my old Triumph so I never worried.

 Does anyone out there have a Spyder that DOESN'T make that sound going into reverse?

yes,it does once a day. On the first start-up and back-up of the day. I don't worry about it as I know what is happening. It is breaking loose the disks from the drive plates from their overnight bonding period. You can get it not to do it by letting the oil get good and hot before engaging reverse gear. But who wants to sit in the garage for 30 minutes. Not i said the impatient Spyder Ryder.:doorag::trike:

Maybe, I will check the next time I have hearing aids in!
