Coupling nut, std nut and threaded rod were from local Ace hardware. Wish I could find a black coupling nut

Don't know. The ST has a deep recess in the handlebar and a long threaded bolt. I cut the threaded rod length to match the bolt length I needed. I also needed the coupling nut to mate the male threaded ram ball and threaded rod. The coupling nut gave me enough height to raise the ball up above the handlebar

Ingenious nicely done i'm sure this will help allot of folks with your bar configuration. You could do two and add other electronics... !! :thumbup:

I tried to do this, but the coupling nut and jam nut felt like they are too wide to fit flush with the handlebar. It seemed to lack about 1/8 of an inch of meeting. I was worried that forcing it down in there might damage the handlebars. In short I gave up and ordered theses: http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/mounting-bracket-for-can-am-spyder-black/. I'll let you know how good a product they are when I get them installed.

I bought them from Ace also. just did not feel like it would seat all the way down in the hole without putting pressure on the sides. Didn't want to take any chances. It was definitely close and a little grinding would probably have fixed it. Great idea, I just went a different route. Having just sold my home, I no longer have a garage to do a lot of customizing work in. :(

Well the actual mount is a very quality piece. Unfortunately, it does not fit the ST like their webpage says. I'm waiting on a return phone call from them to see if they will do anything. They called me back and said they had just realized that their mount would not work with the 2013 ST handlebars. They said they are waiting on the local BRP dealer in Minnesota to uncrate the 2013 models so they can measure it to supply spacers and longer bolts to anyone that had bought the mount already. Sounds like they are going to take care of everybody. :)

I am trying to get the two lower bolts off and replace it with screws i got with the gps mount. I read that you need a 8mm hex head to get it off. I tried it but it wont work. What did you use to get the handlebar bolt off.

7mm Hex head worked for me.

I made up one of these this weekend. Thanks Spydr in KS for the idea and direction. I live in a metric country and the only obstacle was finding the 10mm coupling nut and threaded rod... geesh.

I painted the assembly black but I couldn't install it back on the ST-S as I want to add some Blue Loctite to the rod when I torque it down. The Loctite says apply in temperatures above 10 Deg C (50 deg F). Today it was -10C... I may never get it mounted on the bike :(
