I am sure this has been posted here before but I cant seem to locate it.

Has anyone added any switches in the center area of the RT for the additional lights and such that they have added?

64808

If so where did you get them and do you have a model number? I would like to wire some lights to here so I can turn them off and on when I would like.

Do you know if it is waterproof? I have been thinking about these:

Wanted to get some options. Want to make sure they are waterproof as well.

Someone matched them up a long, long time back, but I haven't found the thread yet, on a quick search.

Ref the switches I have posted a reply

Just to let you know - I used one of the switches to fit a manual fan override - The switch is one that lights up when on and is fitted in my console on the far RHS - its a perfect match for the OEM ones
I have the switch so it can be turned on without the engine running so I can cool the engine down after the ign
has been turned off

I like the idea of being able to use those holes in the dash.
Question: The Center hole, (If I remember correctly), doesn't have the same type of room underneath it.
Is there any sort of switch that can be used in that hole that is: waterproof, and OEM-styled?

Bob

My centre switch was covered with a blank - If you prise the blank out you are left with a hole
I used this hole to mount a female DIN (as used on BMW's) power socket in which you plug in a Male Din Plug for
accessories etc (See photo in earlier post - The Din socket has a cap on it to ensure it stays waterproof when not
in use)

You may be able to file the switch out so its the same shape like the OEM ones allowing the same type of switch to fit to help match them all up

Ref a waterproof issue - I have had my manual fan switch in for several months and with Rain and the use of a hose for cleaning I have never had a problem
It a nice tight fit as are the OEM ones

Looks as if they are waterproof. Here is the datasheet:

I am going to place an order. I will order a few extras. Thanks for the info.

These switches look just like stock and they are for marine use. I've got one for my on board air compressor add on. Has been through LOTS of heavy rain with no issues.

These are the same switches from http://www.alliedelec.com/search/productdetail.aspx?SKU=70131618

IF you check the data sheet they are listed as

V -Series Contura Sealed Rocker Switches

It may pay to shop around to get the best price once you add P/P etc

Eddie, have you run the fan when in slow town traffic where the water temps rise pretty rapidly, and does it keep the temp from rising? I've been wanting to install one for that purpose but don't know enought about electronics to do it.

Got 8 switches in today. Figured I'd grab a few extra and bring them to SF in case people can't find them.

I have run the fan only when stuck in traffic and the once the auto switch has gone off just to help keep it cool - I also use it just to ensure the fan is working
On my previous motorcycle BMW K100LT it was known for the fan to seize if it had not been used for sometime
in the cooler months the fan on the BMW would not come on much as the engine is more exposed to the cold temps so it was a good idea to ensure the fan could still work

Ref fitting the switch I followed this thread
