What is the best system to communicate with my partner when riding our new RT- Limited? Wired or Wireless? How do these products work with the radio and GPS? Is there a built in system? We pick up our Spyder next week......

Another second for the sena headsets. We had a wired set for a short period of tine. My hubby hated it. The sena set are easy to use and we can hear each other clearly. When using my phone, people can't tell I'm ryding.

They work really well so far and very easy to operate.

See this thread, look at my post #10 I posted about the Shark head sets. I love them. Note they are not voice activated, but I prefer that because wind noise keeps the VOC on most of the time.

BRP is selling a "Dongle" which connects to the bikes radio or I believe any bluetooth device. Then with bluetooth headsets you can listen to the bikes radio, GPS, or use your cell phone.

1+ I've NEVER understood this. When I ride, I want to hear the wind and occasionally tunes. Period. I don't want to talk to other drivers, passengers, or squirrels in passing trees. But, then I'm the guy that TURNS OFF his phone in ANY vehicle.

You want to talk? Stop, talk, then shut up and ride….

I used to agree with both of you and then I got a Scala Rider G9. Now I never ride without it. Listening to music wirelessly in your helmet is probably the best thing about them. We mostly use the intercom to communicate directions to each other and they come in real handy in the city when you are more likely to be separated at lights. I would think that if you didn't want to take phone calls you could put your phone in silent mode and you wouldn't even know it was ringing. I don't get a lot of calls so that isn't an issue with me but it sure is convenient if you need to make a call you don't have to stop to do it.

I say don't knock it until you've tried it!

That's like asking which Christmas lights are better...green or red. It is a personal choice, and depends on your needs and desires, as well as your preferences. Good wired systems are quite flexible in terms of (wired) connections, have excellent noise reduction and speed adjustment capabilities, and do not attach anything to the outside of the helmet (or that sticks out). I like the Starcom1, but the Autocom and Behr systems are good, too. Wireless systems offer convenience, and offer easier bike-to-bike capabilities without add-on radios. They also have access to some features through the keypad. They rely mostly on Bluetooth, so connected devices usually need Bluetooth capability. Some may not have anything but boom mikes available, making their use with full face helmets more difficult. They do hang outside the helmet (except Shuberth's proprietary system), which some feel is a safety hazard in a crash. The Scala Cardo G4/G9 or Sena SMH-10 have the best reviews.

just curious...do you get a lot of wind using the bluetooth/ intercom while using the half helmet. I have a 3/4 helmet but have been wondering if I will need to upgrade to full face so that the wind won't blow in the mic and make it useless.

No it seems to work pretty well. I do ride an RT and it has pretty good protection. I talked to my wife on the phone doing 70 down the hwy and she said it sounded a little muffled be really very good considering. Haven't used the intercom very much yet but what I have I am very pleased with. Buy it somewhere you can return it if you don't like it. I bought the Scala Team Set Pro last year and I returned them. To many little buttons to push and I knew I would be messing with my wifes all the time even though she would say "I didn't do anything, it just quit". So I returned them. The Sena's seem much easier to operate.

I prefer wireless to wired in. That makes it easier to get on and off the :spyder2:. One less thing to worry about in the big scheme of things. I am currently using Scala Rider 2's but am going to upgrade to either Sena or the G9's for the upcoming riding season. Decisions here too.

I like communication between the rider/passenger or rider/other spyder for lots of reasons. Mostly for ride information about safety, potential hazards, change of plan, etc. etc.

I have tried them, and other types of comm systems. As I indicated above, if I want to talk, I'll stop.

I live in a hectic environment, and my only solitude is when I'm going from point "A" to point "B"…. I can easily rack up 200 E-mails, texts, and phone calls between gas stations….. and that's on a weekend...

Got the Sena smh10s yesterday. We got the dual pack which is smh10D-10. It comes with a factory paired sett right out of the box. However they are very easy to pair in any event. Within ten minutes of opening the package they were pair to our cell phone then mounted on the helmets. Helmet mounting takes about 10-15 minutes each just to be careful. Audio quality is very good/ each function has separate volume level which is nice. Just wish the weather would let us take them for a ride. Youtube videos. Make wind performance appear hopeful. We actually like the larger dial for gloved use. Functions are intuitive also. I found it better to use the voice functions of the phone and disable the voice functions of the headset itself. Manual is well-written.

$238.00 for the pair.

Lots of folks ride to escape the world a bit. There is nothing wrong with that, and nothing to defend. Others find some music relaxing, including myself. Some people need to remain wired-in, with cell phones, GPS, and bike-to-bike added to the mix. That would drive me nuts, but I understand and respect their compulsions. It's a big world. there is room for us all! :)

UCLEAR is what we got & their great, no mic to have to deal with. Pairs up to Blue tooth phone, can pair them up to other riders. A long range advantage. No wires. They run around 389.00 for dual unit from cyclegear. Very happy with them.

We use Vega V-Comm wireless helmets...we can talk bike to bike as long as we're within 1500 ft of each other. Has bluetooth, etc. Previously used J&M Audio wired system when we were on the same bike. I'd have to say I prefer wireless over wired.

I'm pretty happy with the BRP OEM wired system.
I've got GPS, Music, Intercom, and with the dongle, Cell Phone.

I preferred a wired system because with everything I already have (cell phone, iPOD, netbook) I don't need to worry about keeping my HELMETS charged up. I've already got more than enough of those little vampire chargers.

Just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I asked the same question months ago.Read all various posts and from what I gleaned purchased the sena10.Am delighted with them and relatively inexpensive.

:agree: The Missus and I use the intercom so that we can anoy each other... and I keep my music at high volume to scare away the mosquitoes. ;)

But the outside World doesn't enter the "SpyderZone"

Well, finally got to take the Sena Smh10D-10s out for a few rides. Very good for performance in this headset. Have never used any others so cannot make comparisons. Little or no wind noise just depending upon how we have the visor on the helmets. I actually think there is an added safety using these headsets because now when my wife shows me something I actually know what she's talking about don't have to take my eyes off the road so long to guess. And the company is nice after all that is why we ride together!

You need the Sena Bluetooth Dongle, it hooks to the wiring of the bike and pairs with your headsets.

I'd recommend the Uclear: No boom mic. Mic built into speakers. Very clear reception. Firmware updates download when available. Web site www.uclear-digital.com (http://www.uclear-digital.com)

Take a good, hard look at your helmet before pulling the trigger on the Uclear: Their combined speakers/microphones are very large.

Make sure they fit in your helmet's speaker recessed area. It turned out to be a deal breaker with my Nolan helmet. It would have been my first choice, but they just would not fit.
