I weigh about 260 lbs. What would be the best settings for the front shocks? When riding 2 up, Jan and I together weigh 435.

Gary I set mine to 5 and leave it there. It provides better stability for me.

I've set mine at 4, but we're a bit lighter than you guys.
It's actually the rear shock that carries most of weight; the fronts deal more with the handling of the bike.

I weigh 210#s and my wife 130#s plus about 50# of stuff on the bike, total 390#s or so. I use the number 5 setting on the front (stiffest) and about midway on the rear. I would suggest a little more on the rear say 3/4 of the way. Normally I don't go for replacement shocks like Elkas until I need to replace worn out shocks etc. but the best solution in your case both for ride-ability and safety in handling may be to go to a performance shock like Elkas. When you order them from the factory (Elka Direct) they will ask how much you weigh, what type of riding you do etc. This way you will get the best performance out of your ride and be safe to boot!

I adjusted mine to 5 on the front and almost all the way up on the rear when riding two up. Going to 5 on the front made it handle like a new bike. Way better.

IMO, the factory recommended settings are one notch too light. That doesn't help with the passenger aboard, of course, since there is no #6. I'd go with #5 if the rider is over 200 pounds and likes a spirited ride.
