SpyderPops skid plate is more robust than the original.

This is what my original skid plate looked like...

I like that...my skid plate looks almost as bad as yours. Let me know how it works out for you.

Have had it on since the spyder arrived this past May. It protects the bottom under your Frunk, as the Spyder sits pretty low with the original shocks.:yes:

It also gives protection if you accidentally bump into a curb!

:agree: I have tested that theory. Those curb blocks are hard to judge sometimes.

What type of jack did you use? Would like to get one myself. Thanks:bowdown::bowdown:

Wonder if it will slide under the RT if it has Spyderpop Cat shields installed? I have a cheap version from Sears (Chinese) that won't go under mine with the Cat shields.

I couldn't tell you. I do not know what that shield looks like. I do know you can go under either side. I would think if you go from the opposite side you would miss it but then again, I don't know that shield!

My Harbour Freight special from over the summer, just makes it with the Spyder Pops plastic hanging down for the CAT heat problem. If it were any closer, like 1/4 inch, it wouldn't work without "adjusting" the SPops plastic on each side. I do have the BumpSkid thingy as well as Elkas, they may make a difference

I have used the bump skid, and can attest to its functionality. Its worth every penny.

Im anxiously awaiting the new belt guard for my RT,... Harvey, are you listening? ;)

Spyderpops put my bump plate on at Lamonster's BBQ, he used a aluminum floor jack that he said he got from Sears (Craftsman), it was a great looking jack, and it seems to work well for him. You might try to contact him via his Vendor site, I'm sure he'd be able to help with the particulars on the jack. I've already put the bump plate to use twice, very worthwhile addition to our Spyders. Also need to mention his jack had a very wide lift platform, excellent for any bike.

Noe that I installed the RT BumpSkid I rode 460 miles this weekend over Sat and Sun and I noticed something. The ambient outside temp gauge nows is way off! It consistently reads 10+ high. On return yesterday, It read 81 and it was actually 68. Has anyone else noticed this? Where is the temp reader and is it hard to move it to a better position?

Please don't post the same message on three different post, it makes it hard to follow. One post is fine. I deleted the one on the general board.

As far as temps go it really shouldn't matter seeing the sensor is nowhere near there.

Every Spyder ever made, especially the RT's, will build up heat under the bodywork and read hotter than ambient. +4-8 degrees is typical. In the sun, or after parking and restarting, the difference can be huge! I expect 10-20 degrees above ambient when I come out of a store in the summer. This comes down very slowly, due to minimal venting of the trapped air in the bodywork, and due to the programming of the Spyder. Trapped heat can also raise the reading during stop-n-go traffic. I suspect your Spyder always did this, but you didn't notice until now. I have seen little or no difference since adding the BumpSkid. Moving the sensor is difficult, since it also is a pressure sensor whose readings are used in fuel and engine management. It cannot be mounted in a direct air stream because that would adversely affect the pressure sensor. The length of the extension harness is also critical. Changes in the harness to accomodate a move, can cause erroneous readings.

The best way to check if your AAPTS is working correctly is to compare to the ambient in your garage before you start the Spyder in the morning. If it is still way off, you should see your dealer.

Now I know for sure, I have over 8,000 miles, that the temp was always never more than 4 or 5 degrees higher. I rode Sat morning to a club breakfast when it was 43 degrees out and it read 68 degrees all the way there (about 15 miles). I know the readings have changed since I put on the Bumpskid, so that said, does anyone out there know where the sensor is located?

Right hand side, near the upper right shock mount, as I recall. Be careful if you decide to try to move it. The harness cannot be extended without consequences, and the sensor cannot be located in a direct air stream or aerodynamically low air pressure area. If you delete the intermediate harness and move it, the only suitable location is near the upper body vent (behind the lower wind deflector). This area sees even higher heat that below, because it is where the trapped body heat exits. If all you want is an accurate ambient temperature reading, an aftermarket gauge is a better solution. You can change the display so the temperature is not shown.

Has anyone out there installed any aftermarket ambient air temp gauges? What did you use and how did it install?

Thanks

We just installed our BumpSkid today and noticed the same thing. It was showing 10-15 degrees higher than it actually was. It's always been pretty accurate before so it has to be the plate.

Ref the part quote above - Is this in the cluster display and if so how is it changed so its not shown
Just intrested - Never came across this function before, switching some displays off
If so what other displays could be switched off or on

Were you aware that the front of your Spyder was touching down on occasion while you were riding? :dontknow: The SpyderPops bumper hangs nearer the ground which I imagine will make it more liable to suffer this kind of contact damage.

The option should be in your setup menus. I am working from memory here, but I remember seeing it. Maybe it was a dream. ;) I'm too lazy to go out and look this chilly morn.

I thought when I looked at the underside shot of the skid plate that it was cracked, but looking at the side view photo I saw that your garage floor was also cracked. Then the truth dawned, what I'd seen were the reflections of your cracked garage floor in the highly reflected material of the skid plate! DOH!

If you have analog gauges for fuel and temp, remove the 4screws from your dash panel and pull dash out far enough to see back of gauges. Unplug gauges, when you reboot or turn the key on you will now see digital information for the unplugged gauges displayed on the right and left side of your display screen. You can replace your original analog gauges or cover them. I have replaced with a voltmeter on one side, but still pondering what I will put on the other side. I've been thinking of creating a warning light display to show brake application and fog light lights ON. You can tap one side of your gauge harness to supply power for gauge lighting on your new gauges.

:hun: That has nothing to do with the ambient air temperature on the display.

I put the bumpskid on and the temperature on the display is the same as it was before I put it on about 10 or more degrees hotter than acutal. I did install an aftermarket guage that reads very accurate.

What is the gauge you installed and how & where did you mount it?

Your right, it doesn't, I was just stating what could be turned off and the uses for the uncoupled gauges, one of which could be an analog ambient temperature gauge. My bump skid has not affected my MFD's digital temp that I can notice, but this could be an option for augmenting the temperature display that I believe cannot be removed but only changed from Fahrenheit to Celsius. Just a thought.
