I have about 1400 happy miles on the RT, most of them with my sweetie, and being 75 years old my lower back bothers me after about 150 miles. Any advice on backrests will be appreciated. I have been looking at the Utopia. Thanks again.

Harley- there a bunch of us that have the Utopia and we love them. Many of them have been self installed.

If you are using the stock seat--the utopia is the way to go.

Get it here.

2 things that will make the install go smoother
1) Before removing the hinge bolts put a dab of Goop adhesive on the nuts so they don't fall out of their slots.

2) Before you re-install the seat wrap some teflon tape around bolt spacers so they won't fall out of the hinge ears.

These 2 things will save a lot of hassle. For everything else just follow the instructions.

Question: Does Utopia offer a quick-release setup for those days when you don't want to use it? We've found that when we're riding three-up and Tink's got the center position; there'd be no space for a backrest...
Thanks!

Yes. I purchased it with the quick removal and I'm glad I did! Well worth the extra money.

I have a Utopia on its way. A friend of mine showed his setup to make the seat quick release. He removed the backrest bolt and replaced it with a clovis pin he purchased at a local marine store. It is simple and quick on and off.

Do you have to put holes in the seat. I dont see how it mounts. Also they where taking about a comfort seat on there web site. How do you know the difference. Would a 2012 RT limited come with a regular seat or a comfront seat?

Well, Harley, I'm in my late 70's, and installed the Utopia on my 2011 RT-S SE-5 with the standard seat, one morning this last winter. Easy installation (scary, but easy), after talking to "Bob" @ Utopia, and downloading and studying the easy to understand installation instructions. I've got a few broken ribs, and the Utopia has made riding a lot more comfortable. Excellent product!

Regular seat...their advertising is in error.

I am 66 and have had a couple of back surgeries. The Utopia has allowed me to keep on riding. I love it!!!

At first, I had the quick release. However, I since went back to the solid mount when I caught someone walking away with the backrest as I walked out of the store after paying for gas. Which was only about 15-20 feet away. He dropped it and ran off.

Yes, Bob you have to use a big old long steak knife and go from the top of the seat through to the bottom where the bracket mounts.
