View Full Version : Extended Warranty?

I've got 2 days to decide whether or not to add BRP's BEST Warranty extended coverage to my Spyder under the 7-day promotional pricing from the purchase of my Spyder (otherwise it jumps up to full price).

How expensive is it to make a repair on a spyder? Is it likely I'd have many problems in years 3-5 that would make it worth paying $800 for the warranty extension?

I'd honestly rather put money into adding some mods to the bike and paying down the loan over the warranty, but I'm also used to vehicles costing $20,000 having a much longer warranty.

Any advice?

It can be VERY expensive, depending on what fails. I HIGHLY recommend getting the extended warranty! The Spyder is too computerized so you never know when something bad might happen.

Guess the main determining factor is the hourly labor rate at your servicing dealer. We used to have two dealers in my area, one charged $79/hr the *other charged $109/hr:yikes:***Now no-longer an Authorized Spyder Dealer, SHOCKER***

If you needed even one major repair, that took 8 hrs to complete, for me personally, that could range from $632-$872 & that's just the labor cost, not including the needed parts. Hmmmmm, looks like the cost of the warranty ($800) wouldn't be all that bad in these terms, huh? Keep in mind, Spyders, with all of their "tupperware" and tight quarters are time consuming to work on.

With these machines (especially the RT models) still being relatively new in the market, long term reliabilty is still anyones guess, but BRP does have a pretty good track record to go on at least.

My suggestion & I did it myself, is if your not mechanically inclined (like I'm not) to where you yourself could take care of any issue that might arise, then I'd suggest getting the extended warranty for peace of mind, not to mention, if you choose to resell down the line, thats an extra bonus (being transferable) to any potential buyer. Just one more thing to think about.
