Hey Dave,

Looks like Teddy is all geared up for 2012! I like his matching red goggles (such a fashionable guy).

Happy trails!

It was 25 degrees & lightly snowing but we made it to Krogers grocery store without an issue. If you look closely, you can see the first snowfall of the Cincy season, some built up on Teds Red Sled when we came out of the store, and also falling in the pics with Teddy standing up when we're about to back into his garage.

WOW!!! It would seem that Teddy & I got really lucky yesterday & just barely dodged the bullit. The 1st snowfall of the season caused so many accidents, seriously over a hundred crashes in just one day & most of it was here in Northern Kentucky. We live right at the bottom of the "Cut In The Hill" of Interstate 71/75 right as you get onto the double decker bridge. At 10pm last night, they were showing live video of it still at a crawl, from rush hoursome 6 hours earlier. They even closed the bridge down leading from KY to OH near Kellog Ave because of so many accidents. When we were out, it wasn't bad at all, but as I said, we got lucky. This mornings ryde has been the coldest yet this season for me. Teddy got to stay nice & warm, still snuggling in the bed when I left for work. I usually leave about 5:30am for work, but after all the mess yesterday, thought it best to leave earlier, so I left about 5:10, get'n up at 4:15am (YIKES!!!) & wouldn't you know it, the streets were nice, clear & dry. So I got to work way early & remembered that I quit caffiene, so I had to catch myself when I began pouring a hot cup of coffee. We don't have decaf here, so water it was instead. I'm glad I remembered, cause I don't want to go through another 3 days of hell from detoxing again. So on yesterdays ryde, the Tedsters long hair kept getting tangled in the elestic strap of his doggles, causing him irritation & him taking them off, which is not a good thing. We can't have that, so out with the clippers & I gave him a nice lil trim. Mind you, he's not shaved all the way down, but I trimmed about an inch to make it more managable but also leaving him with enough coat to help protect from the cold when he rydes. He still gets layered up, usually an undershirt, overshirt & jacket on top, not to mention his nifty & warm electric pad he gets to ryde on as well, so no worries, the Tedster isn't suffering & freezing. So now, back to this thing called work for me. Hope y'all are have'n a great day ;)3893238933389343893538936

If your serious & this weekend would work for you, the Tedster & I could load up SkYdie in the camper & make a road-trip & deliver her to you, just let us know. It sure would save Teddy from serious injury & Im thinking he'd be just as happy knowing she has a good loving home with you & he can have me all to himself again :p

Ok, so we needed a new left side rain diverter (lower wing) that broke off when I ran over the pot-hole from hell in the rainstorm a couple weeks back.

Needed a new windshield (dog-bone) mount that cracked & broke all the way through, not related to the pot-hole incident. Shop says you can't order just the mount, but have to also order the motor (that raises & lowers the RT windshield) & replace both  as per BRP. Whatever, its their dime as it should be covered under Warranty as you can still see that theres another crack in the upper part of the mount, thats only cracked half the way through. I've seen in another thread where 6 or 7 other RT's have cracks in their mounts as well, & a few have already been replaced under Warranty. So, if you have an RT I'd suggest giving your mount a good lookover, just to make sure yours is still in good shape.

Have to have the parking brake cable & front spool replaced, as the cable itself actually had a crack in the outter sheath, not allowing it to wind back around the spool, so it couldn't ingage or disengage. This has been a major PITA, especially since on the SE5 RT's you HAVE TO engage the parking brake when shutting down. If you don't, the byke sounds a LOUD beeping sound for about thirty seconds to alert you that you forgot to set it. Its loud enough to wake your neighbors  This too should be covered under Warranty.

The front trunk release button stopped working a while back & they replaced the switch under Warranty, but it still isn't working, so they'll be checking into that once more.

I'm finally getting a new rear tire, going with the stock tire this time, but thinking our next one will be a car tire. Scotty explained pretty well why the stock "hybrid" rear tire wears out in the center so quickly in another thread, & it makes since, the more highway "high speed" miles you put on, the faster the rear tire will wear in the center. Since I ryde daily, back & forth to work on the expressway & do alot of road-trips, it makes since to switch to a longer life tire for us. Mind you, I'm not complaining, as we got 20,700 miles on this first one & from what I've read, thats close to double what many other ryders are getting, if not more.

And the last thing we're get'n done, is a new rear brake pad, as its gone. Hope the rotor is still in good enough shape to continue to use & that doesn't have to be replaced.

I need to head up there & see how its all coming together.

CyncySpyder
01-05-2012, 02:53 PM
Hope the rotor is still in good enough shape to continue to use & that it doesn't have to be replaced

UGH!!! Bad news, the rotor is shot & has to be replaced:banghead: Minimum is something like 5.5mm & its at 5.3, so a no go & just my luck, they don't have any in stock:mad:

I have a feeling if I were at one of the many average dealers that are out there, that many of you have to deal with on a daily basis :lecturef_smilie: I'd litterally be stranded right now, seeing as the Spyder is my only mode of transport.

But hats off to the crew here at Middletown Cycle, cause their not leaving me stranded. The owner has them taking a rotor off of their new model on the showroom floor so they can keep Teddy & I Rock'n & Roll'n & Spyder Ryde'n:firstplace:

So I'm chill'n here at the shop for a little while longer while they get this taken care of for me. I had my co-worker drop me off, so I'm sad :( cause Teddy is still at the house, undoubtedly wondering where in the hell I am:dontknow: It was funny tho, as soon as I walked in, everyone was all smiles & look'n for the Tedster & I had to brake the bad news to them that he was still at home & you could just see the joy leave their faces instantly:opps:

Tho they still were happy to see me, I get it & know that I can't make the masses Happy :D ike the lil Tedster can :firstplace:

SteveMac
01-05-2012, 03:14 PM

So got him turned around and headed back and got him and trailer into the garage. Safe and sound. Teddy in great shape Dave should be POOPED out as he left his place ( he said) at around 0400 got here at around 1630. Not bad considering all the hoopla over the trailer and of course Teddy ( THAHAM!!!) Most all spyder owners KNOW how long it takes to gas up. And of course with a ham like Teddy it's even LONGER!!!! But they are in great shape for the shape their in. The cat is beautiful and will have a great time here once she gets used to all the comings and goings of 5 cats and a dog. ( Who btw doesn't LIKE Teddy!!! took a snap at him!!! She just doesn't usually do that kind of thing! I am really upset because she got REALLY teritorial all of a sudden!!!) Anywho that's the update so far. His rig is DIRTY from the dust!!! And would like to know rcdurango's name he couldn't get it as his phone kept cutting in and out. I don't have a cat here THAT thin!! Anyway She's haveing fun checking everything out. Right now she's not much of a lap cat......yet.;)

Our story begins with me being so excited about doing a good sized road-trip, that I couldn't sleep. I made a post saying as much around 2am, and by 4am, we were all packed up and hitting the open road. Conditions were good for our trip, tho it did get chilly as we progressed. Upon leaving the Northern Kentucky area, it was in the mid 40's and by the time we got to our destination, believe it was still in the upper 30's, so not bad, coulda been much worse, thats for sure. At one of our gas stops, I noticed I had a few missed calls & texts, so I took a few minutes to sort them all out. With towing the Moto-Mate Camper, we were only averaging about 22MPGs, which is lower than on our past road trips with it. So, rougly, every hundred miles we were making gas stops. At each stop, I would go back and open up the rear of the camper to check on Skydie. I had her bed lined with those chemical hand warmers so she wouldn't be cold and the first couple of checks, she was fine. On our 3rd check however, she was nowhere to be found. I knew she couldn't get out, so I figured she probably had just gotten under the covers somewhere and thats why I couldn't see her. Well at the 4th gas stop, right past St. Louis (which you can see the Arch in the one pic) I still didn't see her and thought it best to dig her out, and I'm glad I did, or the trip would have been for nothing, besides us delivering a dead cat to ThreeFeets house. You see, I have a large, patio sized rectangular umbrella with rope lights attached underneath, inside the camper enclosed in a plastic bag. When we camp, I set it up and its attached to the outside of the camper, and provides shade, light and added protection from the elements. However, when in route, its stored inside the camper in its plastic bag. Upon my search for Skydie, and not seeing her anywhere inside the camper, I noticed condensation on the inside of the plastic bag holding the umbrella. HUH? Why the heck is there condensation in there & what is that white mess all around the top??? OH HELL!!! I found the cat and just in the nick of time. She had crawled all the way up to the top of the umbrella and was stuck & sufficating as well. As soon as I realized what I was seeing, I ripped through the plastic and out flopped a moist & frantic Skydie. As soon as I released her, she started gasping in fresh air & within a couple of minutes, she was pissed, but no worse for the wear. So glad I checked when I did, cause I don't think she woulda lasted much longer. Whew, glad she was ok, and I ripped through the rest of the plastic bag, just to make sure she couldn't get stuck in it again. So, after that little fiasco, I locked the camper back up, geared up, and back onto the road we went.

As soon as we got into Cuba, MO we headed for LadyBug Campground. We had stayed there last year for SpyderFest & the owners that run the campground couldn't have been any better & there were so helpfull, especially when Teddy injured his leg & she looked up an Emergency Vet for us that was open on Saturday. She was there when we stopped by, with her new Grand Daughter as well. She of course remembered Teddy & was glad to see him back in a healthy rambunctious and loving state. We talked for a while & she showed me their reservation book when I told her we still needed to make ours. They are packed, but promised they would find a place for us for SpyderFest. They only have tent sites left now & she said they'd probably have to hire someone temporarily to help out for the week of SpyderFest. Said they'd never been so booked. They added another building with restrooms & showers. I took a bunch of pics & posted a few here, mind you, the place was totally empty except for 2 RVs that camp there all winter. Was really good to see her again, such a nice lady, good people, you know.

For those of you that aren't aware, LadyBug Campground is litterally right down the street from Cowtown & is the closest place to stay for SpyderFest!!!
So naturally, our next visit was to go see Len & the gang at Cowtown. Upon our arrival, a few of the Cowtown Crew were taking full advantage of the warmer than normal weather and were litterally hanging out of the windows. Well, at least 1 window, that of Lens Dads office -lol- To which we were warmly welcomed with opened arms and of course, the inevitable question, "Where's Teddy?" -lol- I had him in his enclosed carrier to keep warm & toasty at highway speeds, so he wasn't readily visible. As soon as I unzipped his door, he bounded out and headed for some schmooz'n & love'n. I swear, Cowtown is like his second home & he could smell and remember where the breakroom was (he enjoyed sharing some BBQ ribs when we were there last) right away. We had a really nice visit, saying hi to everybody again, and of course, Len was there to welcome us as well. He told us we just missed the MoGang Meeting about SpyderFest just a couple of hours earlier (Dang IT!) but we'll see them all soon enough in a couple of months at SpyderFest. Len was very EXCITED about all thats going in to this years Fest & even showed me some of the "Special" mods that the 2012 Limited Eddition SpyderFest RT-S's are going to enjoy. Wait til you see these rims he's got going on, one of a kind & VERY NICE!!! We talked for a bit, while Teddy schmoozed it up with his adoring fans, not to mention be'n a good boy & beg'n for treats -LOL- When we got ready to leave, I was still talking with Len when I started Teds Red Sled up. Mind you, Teds Red Sled is the first SpyderFest Eddition byke that Len did for last years Fest, we're #1 of 5. (Inside joke, ask Len how to spell eDdition-lol-) As soon as I started the byke, Len cocked his head a little, walked up to the throttle, and gave it a light twist. He then asked me, "Didn't you just have this in for service?" at my local dealer back in Ohio. "Yup, just got it back before this trip, why you ask?" "Did they tell you that you needed a new Y-gasket?" "Ummmm, nope, didn't mention a thing about it. You mean you could tell just by listening to it like that?" "Oh yeah, sounds like yours is just starting to go out, but I can barely hear the difference, so you'll wanna get that replaced soon." WoW!!! Thats what sets Len & Cowtown apart from all other dealers (at least that I've dealt with) is that little attention to detail that most other dealers miss. He also noticed that the front of the saddle was starting to crack right at the seem between the saddle & the glove box crotch area. "When you call them about the Y-gasket, tell them to also get you a new seat ordered under warrantee, it shouldn't be like that. How's the ryde, have you noticed alot of vibrations?" (which I have) "Ummm, now that you mention it, yeah. I read on SpyderLovers about the clearance issue, but thought that was only on the 2010 models." "Its the 2010 & early 2011s that some are having vibration issues due to not enough clearance, they didn't ask you if you were having any vibration issues>?" I felt silly at this point, cause I have a pretty good dealer, that will do anything they can to help & keep us on the road. But as I mentioned earlier, thats the difference between most dealers & Len & the crew at Cowtown, all those little details that come with knowing your product & giving your customers (FRIENDS) the very BEST Service that they can. Len even made the comment when we were talking earlier about Cowtowns Great Success with Spyders & what he attributes it to, "Well, you know, here, your a friend first & a customer second & thats how I try n treat everyone we deal with." What a great model, just wish ALL dealers thought, felt & LIVED the same. IMHO, The Spyder World would be so much better for it.

Well, we got a dusting of snow yesterday. Had some impressive downpours of huge snow flakes, but it didn't last very long at all. Only bad part really is that the bottom dropped out of the temps. and we are down to 15 degrees this morning. With wind-chill, its right at 0. Made for a brisk ryde in to work this morning, thats for sure. One of these days, when Teddy makes it big & rich, I'll get one of those nifty Corbin seats thats heated along with some heated Gerbing gear as well. But for now, just tough'n it out with the basics, but it still works. Only thing that was really cold after the 19 mile ryde was my finger tipps, even with the RT-S's heated grips on high & with new winter gloves to boot. Oh yeah, when he makes it big time, also have to get a snow-mobile helmet, as many others Ive spoken with say it makes all the difference in the world when it comes to Winter Ryde'n. I was working on Teds heated pad last night. It works really well for the little guy, but sadly. on our trip this past weekend, when I went to fuel up at our last stop, I forgot to disconnect the plug for his heating pad, and pulled the connectors that a fellow SpyderLover sent us right apart, destroying them & making the connection useless. I had remembered all the other times, but was just in too much of a rush & it wasn't a habbit yet, and well, I got what I got. I didn't let the Tedster freeze mind you, I put 6 of those chemical heat warmers under his cusion, & he seamed fine with that, no shiverring or whining, tho I'm sure it wasn't as warm as the electric pad was. I thought I had it figured out last night, but upon my last check, I think I may have blown the fuse for the 12 volt connection in the rear trunk. No power to it all when last I checked it, so I'll have to remedy that before our 700+ mile trip on Sunday to Lamonts in TN. Dax (KingGeek) will be ryding down with us as well, so it will be nice to have another Spyder along for the trip. Gotta get back to work for now. Oh yeah, Not sure if you noticed, but up above in my previous posts, I first posted pics of our Trip to ThreeFeets in Salem MO, and now, as I get time, I'm going back and adding in the context of what transpired on this past Adventure, as usual. rarely a dull moment when it comes to Teddy taking Road-Trips. There's even a part where, as the sun was setting in the middle of nowhere & we were momentarily lost, I thought banjos were gonna start playing & I had flashbacks to Deliverence !!! Stay tuned ...............................................

Since we've gotten Teds Red Sled back from the shop & get'n most of our issues resolved (rear tire/brakes, parking brake, frunk release) you'd think we just bought our first Spyder for the first time. I mean, I found myself out in the garage, waxing every piece of that Viper Red tupperware that I could & this was at 1am on a work-day. We, like in many areas of the country, have been having unseasonably warm weather lately, like a roller coaster of ups & downs, but especially so for the middle of winter. The other day, it reached a high of 60 degrees, narrowly missing our all time record for the date. Granted, we also had some showers & 40 MPH wind gusts, but as addicted as we are, of cours Teddy & I were out enjoying the ryde on his Spyder.

Having the issues of the rear tire being bald & the rear brake pad gone, spirited ryding was out for us til I got the issues fixed, just not smart to push any vehicle to its limits when its not road ready. So now that we're road ready, WOW!!! the Adrenaline rush of get'n on it in the twisties is back and with a vengence.

How's that old saying go? You don't miss something til its gone. Well let me tell you, even tho we were never without Teds Red Sled, having the ability to hit the twiaties again has made me Appreciate the Spyder even more than I did before.

It was warm enoug for me to remove the top on Teds carrier so he could really enjoy having his head in the air again, even if it was only for a day & you could tell he was loving it & so were all the people that could see him again. So many ppl were pointing, everywhere I looked there seemed to be a camera phone pointed at us & The Tedster, being himself, was readily ham'n it up for the poperatzi.

God, its good to be alive, and even better to be a Spyder Owner, or in my case, a Spyder cheuffer :yes::yes:

This past weekend turned out to be a bust for us, bunches of rain & just cold enough for it to turn into ice, so we didn't venture out at all & just kinda hybernated & dreamed up our next job of mods to be done & there always seems to be an endless supply of mods need'n to be done. On Friday, I snapped a cpouple pics of the Tedster Supervising as my buddy & I removed the front 2 tires & took them to WalMarts Tire dept. so they could rotate the 2 fronts & then balance them as well. Noticed we're getting excessive wear on the inside, not too bad for 22,000 miles, but we figure with rotating them, we should be able to squeeze another 6-10,000 out of 'em 39838 39839

Decided it best to not enter for this year, even though the financial Incentive would have been a great help. This year has just been a financial bear to deal with & because of that, I'm really having issues of bringing everything together to do our Spyder Events & road-trips this year. The OSR (Ohio Spyder Ryders) club is going to have rydes scheduled almost every weekend, then we have SpyderFest in April, Owners Event in June, Lamonsters Bar-B-Q in there somewhere, Spyders in the Adirondacks ...... not to mention my forced vacation time off the 1st two weeks of June & heading to Cali to visit with Family.
Not sure how & I'm sure some things will have to change, but we'll get it figured out one way or the other ;)

Its 4:30am & the alarm is going off, waking Teddy & I out of a restless slumber. The pain in my lower back from kidney stones tells me to hit the snooze button & steal an extra 10 minutes of shut eye. But I know all too well, that if I do that, I'm either going to wind up being late or calling in alltogether & I don't have enogh Personal Days left as it is. So I struggle to slide out of bed without causing myself too much pain. If you've been lucky enough to never deal with kidney stones, bless your lucky stars. This is my second time dealing with them personally. My one brother. William had them so bad last year, that he was on the floor of the ER in the fetal position and he was screaming in pain. Mine never got that bad & I'm praying that it doesn't get that bad this time around either. Bad part is, once you get them, there's always a chance that they will return. Its been 3 years since I last dealt with them & I had forgotten how all consuming & debilatating they can be. Seems little rhyme or reason to the severity, all depends where the little suckers get lodged in your internal organs.

Needless to say, Teddy & I didn't ryde any at all this weekend. We made it to meet up with Jesse at Eden Park on Friday & thats where the pain really started kicking in, so bad, I could hardly get off the Spyder.SpyderPops "Possom Pusher" looks really good on Jesses's RT-S & I'm glad he met with us so we could see it in person.

If this keep going on, you may want to go check it out. My hubby's was so big it wouldn't pass and he had to go to the hospital and have it busted up.

Take care and hope you feel better very, very soon.

Been through the stones many times since early 80's. Force fluids till you can't stand to drink anymore and keep moving.

I used to have stones almost on schedule every three years. Then I read how small dose daily asperin really helps with gall stones. At the time I had a co-worker that the males in their family had stones multiple times per year. But his dad had recent heart problems and I knew that they had him on small dose asperin. I found out that since he had been on the asperin he had no more stones.

I went on small dose asperin and for ten years never had stones again. Then I read that something else I was taking would do the same thing. Went off the asperin for a year, stones came back. Went back on the asperin and have not had a serious stone problem since. A couple of times I've gotten uncomfortable enough that I couldn't sit for any length of time and I would have to walk around to get some comfort. Thats when I would drink water like crazy till I start urinating like crazy and keep moving around and eventually either pass it or it moves and the discomfort goes away.

This sure is a different experience than my last bout with kidney stones 4 years ago. Then, I had a 10mm stone & there was no way I was going to pass that monster, so I went & had Lithotripsy done, which breaks up the larger stone into many smaller ones that you can manage to pass. Albeit, don't think for a second that this is the easy way out, cause for me, the next 3 days were a living hell I'd really like to have to never live through again in this lifetime. Like with most things when it comes to the medical sciences, there are very few difinitives, that why they call it "Practicing" medicine. What may be for one may be totally different for another. Example: I read right here that another forum member had the Lithotripsy done & passed the remaining sand partcicles with no issues at all. For me, this wasn't the case. My last stone was broken up, but the remaining peices were jagged & still rather large for where they have to exit the male body :yikes: & as I said, for me, a living hell. The best way I can communicate what it was like then, is imagine peeing razor blades every time you go to the bathroom accompanied with fresh bright red blood, while your trying to hold a small screened cup that you have to pee thru to try n catch the offending stones as they leave your ........ um..... body, yeah, you get the point. Talking about embarrassing, I remember being in the stall, holding my cup & litterally screaming the first time I had to pee after the procedure was done. I was at work & their were other guys in the bathroom at the time, & you could hear their grimacing at my agony.. One guy even asked what the hell was going on? To which I could say was "passing stones" to which I heard him immidiately start saying a prayer for my strength & that it would end quickly.

Well, that was 4 years ago, & here I am again. only this time, it feels like it moved over the weekend, cause it litterally feels like its in my left butt cheeck right now. I know that can't be the case, but its really close to that area. Imagine someone giving it about 50% of their full power & just taking both their fists & constantly pounding in that one location, well, thats kinda close to how it feels right now, with one exception

MarkLawson

CyncySpyder

and that exception happens to be, where the stone is located right now, every time I take a step with my left leg it feels like someone is taking a really jagged, serrated blade knife heated to a thousand degrees and shoving it in that one little spot & then twisting the blade til I stop moving it  First couple times this happened, I litterally fell to the ground grabbing my butt. Glad I was at home & only Teddy was their to witness that :opps: Now, I just walk around like my left leg is broke & try my best not to move it, cause as soon as I do, it stops me in my tracks, thats for sure. I try not to take my pain meds when I know I have to ryde, but this morning, I had to take 1 otherwise I wouldn't have been able to make it to work this morning. As soon as I got here, believe me, I popped the other one rigt away. Luckily, my job is pretty easy & I can have other ppl do all the dangerous stuff I have to do, so no worries there. Ryding the spyder with this stone is a bit of a challenge for sure. Worst part for me, rigt now, is just getting on and off the byke. The low vibration when ryding actually feels good, at least right now it does. I have another appointment on Thursday with my Urologist to see what he thinks is best to do. His first assesment was that he thought I'd be able to pass this stone without much difficulty, but I believe that assesment needs to be rethought :chill:

Yesterday ryde in to work was a mess. Right above freezing & raining, albeit not to heavily. I knew the morning ryde was going to be messy, so I drugged myself up on my pain meds & washed & waxed Teds Red Sled the best I could the night before. Ive found that when I get home from a wet ryde, the leaf blower makes for a great Spyder Dryer & we all know its not good to be ridden hard & put up wet :lecturef_smilie: The last few times Ive dried Teds Red Sled with the blower, Ive noticed that there was a fine film left behind & I didn't like that. I finally figured out that if I freshly wax the Spyder the night before a wet ryd, it makes a world of difference when I blow dry the Spyder the next day. Nice & shiny with no film left behind :firstplace:

Had to take Teddy to the vet last night, out of his prescription hypoalergenic dog food & also out of his Torib (sp?) its the medicine he has to take every day for his collapsing trachea. Its a diluted version of the stuff that they use to sedate dogs when putting them to sleep for an operation. In the strength they give him, it works well for relaxing his throat so he's not constantly coughing & hacking all the time. I also asked them to express his anal glands, as I caught him scoot'n across the floor the other evening, & thats usually a sign that they need to be emptied or "expressed". I do just about everything else for him myself, but thats one thing I'd really rather not deal with myself. I feel so guilty tho, cause they take him in the back & he was just screaming

I don't blame you for not wanting to empty those anal glands. Sometimes I miss having dogs, but that is one duty I don't miss in the least. I worked at a wastewater treatment plant for 27 years, but that job still made me gag.

Ok, so after I got off work on Friday, it was about 50 degrees & sunny & I wasn't feeling all that bad & it had been a couple of days since I had Teddy out for a ryde, so stupid me, I decided to gear the Tedster up & head to the Spyder wash to give his ryde a nice detailing. Well, let me tell you, Teds Red Sled was look'n mighty fine after 3 hours of wash'n wax'n & detail'n all the while, Teddy was Supervising my every move along with pick'n up all the cute girls that were coming & going at the carwash. After the wash, we stopped by my brothers house to see how he was recovering from having his gullbladder removed last week. While at his house, I started getting the shooting pain in my buttocks again & this time, it was pretty severe, so we quickly took our leave so we could make it home.

Well, we made it home ok, got inside & I drugged myself up & we went to bed. Saturday morning, I woke up about 7am in extreme pain & couldn't get out of bed. I literally had to roll out of bed & when I went to stand my left leg went out from under me & I hit the floor grabbing my but in agony. Teddy was freaking out cause he just couldn't understand. I crawed down the steps to my living room & made it over to the couch. If this was kidney stones, it wasn't anything like the last time I experienced them 4 years ago. Since I had just woken up, I kinda figured I didn't have any pain meds in my system so I promptly took 2. Well, an hour later, my left leg was numb & my left foot was on pins & needles & the pain was getting worse, so I took 2 more pain meds in the hopes of at least dulling the pain some. After waiting for another hour for the meds to kick in, I still wasn't feeling any better & I was just wishing that I could pass out so I couldn't feel the pain anymore. I called my brother & asked him to take me to the ER cause I just couldn't stand it anymore & even tho I had taken 4 Percocets the pain was just getting worse & worse. We make it to the ER, where I wait in agony for 2 hours before I get back to see the Dr. At this time, the pain is so severe, my entire body is shiverring uncontrollably & the Morphine injection didn't even phaze me. After 20 minutes, they give me another morphine shot & tell me they can't do the CT scan until they can get me calmed down enough so I can lay still for the scan. After another 20 minutes & alot of slow breathing, the pain was finally bareable & they rushed me over for the CT scan. I explained (best I could) to the ER doc. about my urologist not being convinced that the stone had moved or could be causing the severe pain & numbness & tingling at least not where I was experiencing it, in my upper left buttocks and down my left leg & foot.

CyncySpyder

The ER doc. thought it could be if the stone moved & was blocking my right uriter (sp?) as it could be causing pressure on my sciatic nerve causing my symptoms & the CT scan would tell us this. Well, after waiting for 2 hours, still in severe pain, the doc finally comes in just to tell me that it looks like my uroligist was correct & that it wasn't the kidney stone causing all these problems. Ok, then what the hell is wrong with me??? Well, we didn't do the scan high enough to tell for sure, but his guess is that I have a pinched nerve somewhere in my lower back & thats what is causing all my pain, numbness & tingling. Ok, so I figured since I couldn't even walk & was in such severe pain, they'd surely admit me to find out what was really going on & how to fix it, right? WRONG!!! He said there really wasn't much they could do for me in the ER, so he was giving me another script for more of the same pain meds that I already have, along with 500mg. of Motrin as well & that I should take it easy, be off work for at least the next week & call my Dr. on Tuesday to have her refer me to an orthopedist to see what they can do for me. As the nurse is reading my discharge instructions of what I should return to the ER for, I told her, everything I'm suppose to return to the ER for, Im experiencing right now, what should I do. She just asked if I wanted to talk to the dr. again, &! I just gave up. I then asked how was I suppose to leave when I couldn't even walk? We had to ask for a wheel chair so I could leave. Any other hospital Ive been to, when your being discharged, even if you can walk, they've always made us go out in a wheel chair & here, I guess they were fine with me crawling out of tge place. First time I ever went to this hospital, & believe me, its the last.

I felt so bad for Teddy, being locked in his bedroom all that time, think I made it home around 7pm & he hadn't eaten all day, nor had any company to play with either. I thought for sure that he would have had an accident, but he didn't & I was so proud of him. My brother was in alot of pain himself, so I just had him drop me off at home. I crawed up the steps to let Teddy out of his bedroom & he busted out of there like a rabbid dog going mad. I knew he musta been bust'n to go, but I knew I really couldn't take him out, so I didn't leash him like usual & we both crawed down the steps outside our condo, & I watched closely as he went #1 but he wasn't across the street where he usually goes #2. He was happy going #1 & ran right back to me & we crawed back to our condo. I was able to get his food & water, took a couple more pain meds & we passed out on the couch together. Today, my other 2 brothers stopped by with some food & also my best friend his daughter brought food for the rest of the week for us & that made Teddy really happy. I asked my friend if he would take Teddy across the street so he could do his business, & he said he went 5 times in total. Such a good boy, holding it for 2 days. So he got rewarded with spareribs & you talk'n about a dog be'n in hog heaven, thats Teddy right now. So, thats where we are right now, layed up, can't ryde, staying drugged up & chill'n on the couch, just waiting for my dr. to get into the office on Tuesday to see what my next step (pun not intended) will be. Sorry, but being in my state of mind, even tho I can't do anything, I'm not on here much lately, as reading and writing is a bit more of a challenge than usua, not to mention, with all the meds, I'm not sure how well Im being cohearant & please forgive my spelling, as I dont have spell check on this. Teddy is taking care of me, so no worries :p

Dave not to give medical advise where it's not requested but there is a class of drugs called Alpha 1 blockers, which cause relaxation of the ureters ( the tubing leading from the kidneys to the bladder) and increase the likely hood of passage @ home by ~ 85-90%. The safest drug in this class is trade named Flomax, generic name is Tamsulosin. Might want to ask your doc whether he feels this might be helpful for you in the future. If the stone is down into your bladder then these drugs won't be of any use. But while the stone is in the ureter, if it is of "passable " size; less than 10mm, then these drugs seem to help along with the other usual and customary treatment. Hope your feeling better SOON:yikes:

They actually originally prescribed Flomax for me, but when I made it to the drugstore to pick it up, they said that the Dr. didn't fax over the order & they were closed at the time, so I just left. Now we know that the stone is still in the same place in the kidney, & its not the problem causing the pain, so we're not worring about it until we can get the pinched nerve issue under control.

Pn that note, I was started on Predinzone (sp?) tonight & go tomorrow for an inclosed MRI at of all places, right across the river from our condo atthe Bengals Paul Brown Stadium. Seems they have their own commercial imaging center inside the stadium thats open to the public ..... cool, I guess. I honestly could care less right now, I just want to get to the bottom of this & be outta pain so I can at least walk and ryde again. Im really worried about depression without being able to ryde every day, although, the drugs are a good distraction from depression, even if they really aren't helping with the pain much. The PA I saw tonight said he didn't think any drugs would do much for this type of pain, besides maybe take the edge off, but hey, they keep me miserably happy at the time being :b2b::rolleyes:

Dave, sciatica and similar nerve pain can be mean! Hard to handle and hard to control. As you have found, drug effectiveness varies greatly from person to person and condition to condition. The doc may have to experiment to find what is right for you. If you get the right drug, it can do wonders. Most of the narcotics do little for me, but there is a non-narcotic that worked like turning off a switch. I hope they find the same for you. Don't be afraid to keep telling the doctor what isn't working, until they get things to be better. If you do have sciatica you will find that, like back problems, it is often worse the more you rest and the less you move. Hopefully they can get the pain under control so you can start some stretching and movement exercises soon. In the end, the PT-type of treatments are often the best. We're still praying for you and your doctors. Try to keep your chin up!

There is a drug called Lyrica (pregabalin) which is for the nerve pain of diabetes and those with pain from fibromyalgia. The narcotics are not much good with true nerve pain, but Lyrica is specifically for pain from pinched and pressured nerves. No a cure but should ease the pain. The prednisone that they gave you is a powerful anti-inflammatory, it will help with whatever might be swollen. Word of caution if they didn't mention it; you want to take the prednisone after a FULL meal to protect your stomach and also early on in the day so as not to interfere too much with your sleep.Hope you feel better soon, don't rush to surgery if the MRI shows a herniated disc unless there is true entrapment on a nerve root. All bulging discs improve over time WITHOUT surgery. The advise that Scotty sent is also very valid :2thumbs:

Good advice above! Hang in there, rest and take the meds. prednisone very good for inflammation. i've been reading spine MRI's for over 20 years, and herniated often regress (get smaller), if you can hang in long enough.
i've had two herniated discs in my neck (removed) and radiculopathy ( like sciatica ) from bone spurs. With the herniated discs, my surgeon did conservative therapy for 3 months. He said I will know if/when I need them removed. He was right. This last time my symptoms got worse and I almost waited too long this and have atrophy of a muscle in my right arm and some numbness. The silver lining: it led me to sell my Harley and buy a Spyder.
Be sure to listen to your doc, and if you develop new symptoms let him/her know right away. occasionally, i have seen disc herniations get bigger

Sounds like piriformis syndrome, where the piriformis muscle (in your butt cheek) presses on the sciatic nerve. It can be very painful (don't ask how I know). It may be relieved with PT and stretching & strengthening exercises. Sometimes orthotics are needed. Beyond that, RICE, massage, anti-inflammatory drugs, and ice packs/ice massage/alternating ice & heat are used, as in many muscular strain or overuse related injuries.

Beyond that, RICE, massage, anti-inflammatory drugs, and ice packs/ice massage/alternating ice & heat are used, as in many muscular strain or overuse related injuries. I looked up more info & this seems very similar to my present issue. Even found a youtube video demonstrating 2 of the excercises that help for this condition & tried them once last night, but with no relief. I realize it will take more than one stretching session to correct this, but its kinda difficult to push thru the pain, when your not 100% sure what your doing is right for your mallady & that I am in fact helping & not hurting myself even more. Hopefully tomorrow, the Chiropractor can pin-point what my problem is & the recommended remedies he can show me in person. At this point, Im willing to do ANYTHING in my power to help myself. Its weird, I grew up my entire life being the caretaker of my family & parents. I'm SO NOT used to being incapacitated and having to rely on others so much, so yeah, this is a huge learning experience for both Teddy & I. Got in to Chiropractor today, my best friends (at one time) neighbor is a chiropractor & when I called & reminded him who I was, he readily worked me right in then. He had me screaming, as my friend said he could here me in the waiting room, and that was 2 offices & 2 walls away. Said he thought about recording it, but out of context, he was worried if his kid came upon it in his phone by accident (u know how kids are) that he thought the shear brutallity of the session wasn't something he was comfortable with her hearing, which I agree. Kinda like witnessing a train wreck, u really don't want to see it, but u find u can't look away. And once thats ingrained in your concience, it can never be taken back.

So, the good news, he's pretty confident its the psifiris syndrom (sp?) that Scotty was talking aboit. He realigned my spine, and stretched me out a bit and showed me a couple to start practicing. And OMG how the pain is now moving from my bottocks to the back of the leg & foot now. Still not mobile, tho I was over zealous after one session where I could stand up straight fir a whole 3 seconds without any pain, then all of a sudden, you woulda thought I had got strucken by a lightning bolt & i was on the floor grabbing my leg in EXTREME Pain, OMG, I won't try that again for a while, thats for sure.

So, stretch, heat, ice, drugs, pass out, and still crawling for now. Still waiting til the 5th to get into the Ortho to see what the MRI revealed & if there's anything else I need to be doing to help correct what all is wrong. Will call tomorrow just to see if they have any cancellations & might be able to get me in sooner. I can't remember how many vertibrea are in the Lumbar Spine! BUT if there is major problems with MORE than the one( looks like only one on that mri) then they would put in a rod. If it's only one then they would take that one out and fuse it. Either way gotta be better than living in the fetal position!!! AND it won't take long to heal and the relief from the pain has got to be exquisit!! Whatchagona do with Teddy??? He's sooooo attached to you. Good luck on the decision you are about to make.:pray: for ya.ThreeFeet.

Again you might want to consider acupuncture now that you're starting to move in the right direction on this. Don't know where Scotty got so bright about this. Maybe he can share the tale with the rest of us. Very glad to hear that there is some movement towards moments without agony. Wish for you the best and FASTEST recovery known to humans. Dave, I had 3 fusions in the lumbar about 3 years ago. All were fused...no rods, but that is because I went to a neurosurgeon instead of an orthopedic. From what I know of all my friends the orthopedics favor rods and cages whereas neurosurgeons don't use them as much. I am fused from L3 thru s1. They would have liked to do L2 thru S1 but because they went in through the front they could only do 3 and not 4 levels. Really talk to the dr about front vs back surgery entry. The back has so many more muscles to cut through and it is easier to get o the area from the front. At least that is what I was told. Get well keep us posted, if you want to talk since I have been thru it, PM me and I will send you my phone number. Just remember it will be uphill once the surgery is done. I wish mine would have been done a few years earlier.

I've had too much personal experience with a ruptured lumbar disc. I won't muddy the water and tell you what you may or may not hear from the orthopedic surgeon. I know the pain you are in. Like a lightning bolt shooting down your leg. I'm surprised you could get to the chiropractor. When the pressured nerve was at its worst, I couldn't get off the floor.

I never did have surgery. But, I possibly should have. I have residual numbness and weakness in my left leg that is permanent. And this is why I am on three wheels now not two. I couldn't trust my left leg to hold up a bike.

Sending much positive energy your way, Dave. Hope you are dealing with good people and they get you on the road to feeling better soon.

But gosh, Ive gotta get better, ive gotta get back to work or all our summer ryding plans are going to be in financial jeopardy especially with the way gas prices are suppose to rise. No work, no pay til dissability kicks in & thats like usually 3 weeks behind. Im going crazy not being able to ryde :banghead:

Right now, ugh, I'm SO frustrated. When I first got Teddy as a n 8 week old pup, I trained him to got potty outside only, whereas in the past, with my other dogs, I paper trained them. Well, today Teddy woke me up by ringing his potty-bell on the door, alerting me that he needed to go out, or an "accident" would soon happen. Works really well when you can walk that is. Being the weekend, our friend visit schedule is off cause my friend doesn't have to work today & I told him to take a break & sleep in. So yeah, at 7:30 this morning I heard the gingle of the "potty" bells. I knew I only had about 20 minutes before it was going to be too late, so I did what I had to do & WOW, I'm paying for it now.

Its sunny & in the 50's & 60's & its now 9 days since we last rode. I'm really sad to say, we may NOT be able to make SpyderFest 2012 :banghead::mad::cus: I'm trying my best to stay positive, but also have to face reality as well :sour:

Just back from seeing an Orthopedic surgeon. Sadly, he couldn't pull up my MRI images on the CD that the Imaging place gave me to give to him, so he had to just go on the "Interpritation" of the radioligist that read it & sent the printed report, and his evaluation of me physically. His suggestion is to first try an Eppideral Injection to see if that will give me any relief. Said I should know within a day or two of having it done if it works or not. If it does, his suggestion is to leave it alone, and go on with life as usual & hopefully it will heal itself over time. If however, the injection doesn't provide the relief I need, then surgery is the next option. If needed, he's confident that with surgery, I'd have immediate relief of my pain. So, my simple reply was, "when & where for the Injection?" They said they had to make some calls for scheduling & that as soon as they can get it all approved & scheduled, they'd call me with the details. Can't be soon enough.

:yes:Its once again sunny & dry & suppose to be close to 60 again today & close to 70 tomorrow

I couldn't take it any more, it was sunny & 70 degrees here yesterday. When my buddy stopped by to take Teddy out, he was only wearing a Tshirt & jeans & said how bad he felt that I couldn't get out & enjoy a ryde with Teddy on such a beautiful day. I snapped & said f:cus:k it, geared up Teddy & myself as best as possible, hobbled down the steps to the garage & pushed the remote for the door to open, & there I saw the sweetest image my eyes have seen in almost 2 weeks now, Teds Red Sled :spyder2: All my pain is in my left but cheek & leg, no where else hurts. So I figured it could hurt to try, but at this point, I'm more worried about my sanity than just having to deal with pain. Doing close to nothing but laying on a couch for almost 2 weeks can be very depressing. So yeah, I took the trickle charger off, closed the seat, put Teddy's carrier on, strapped him in & proceeded to get myself up onto the saddle. Getting off & on the byke was excrutiating & once I got on, it took me about 5 minutes of just sitting there before the pain stopped shooting so badly that I could once again see straight. Once I could handle the pain again I hit the start button & Teds Red Sled once again roared to lyfe. Sitting in the saddle proved no worse than just laying on the couch, so I figured ITS TIME TO RYDE!!! And ryde we did, all backroads & city streets, nothing over 45 or on the highway, just as a precaution. The adrenaline rush in the twisties is better medicine than any doctor can prescribe. Teddy was as happy as I was to get back out in the wind. I knew getting off the Spyder was going to be a challenge, but we made it to a local park down rt.8 along the river that Teddy really enjoys going to & he was flip'n out crazy happy when we stopped & I proceeded to shut the Spyder down. When I went to dismount, I ended up on the ground as my left leg gave out & I couldn't feel it, no injury, just embarrassment, but luckily no one else was around to see. I dismounted the Tedster & just let the lil guy run like a Banshee for a half hour, while I just basically sat there on the ground watching him frollicking around & enjoying the freedom of being out of the house & enjoying the Awesome weather. Getting back on was a little easier &'after I got us both settled back in, we proceeded home, doing a total of around 50 miles for the day. Surprisingly, ryding caused me no more pain than I'm dealing with on a regular basis, even the bumpy roads really weren't more bothersome than laying on the couch. The worse part again was dismounting once we made it back home & then having to hobble up the 2 flights of stairs to our condo. As soon as we got in, I drugged up & grabbed the ice pack & chilled back on the couch. I don't think Im any worse for the wear today, physically speaking, but I know Im much better psychologically speaking.

I know I'm addicted to Spyder Ryde'n, but seriously,
going for that ryde yesterday was just what

Ok, so when I last talked with the orthopedic surgeon, we agreed to try the injection & if that didn't provide relief, we'd opt for surgery. They said they'd call me once they got approval from my insurance company. After 2 days of waiting & not hearing anything, I called them back & was then told it could take up to a week to two weeks to get approval from the insurance company. I explained once again that I can't even walk & can't wait thaf long. So I asked if I just opted for surgergy, could I get that done sooner. She told me that would be something I'd have to discuss with the doctor, so I asked if I could speak with the doctor & was told I'd have to schedule a new appointment. So now I'm. Waiting til wednesday to see the doctor again to see if we can just do surgery cause I can't stand to just keep laying here :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Do you mind if I ask how much the shot/s would be if the insurance doesn't pay? I'm thinking in terms of being able to get the shot/s sooner than surgery.

Some doctors may not charge as much knowing you are paying. I go to a dr. now who charges me a reduced rate b/c I pay; however, it's not for my back.

Once you are given the shots could you then try for reimbursement?

The Ortho's office just called & said that the surgeon was able to look at the MRI images & that I was in fact a candidate for surgery & that if I can get in to see my GP & get a full physical done & she agreed I was healthy enough to go under, that they could get me on the schedule for this Friday  I know I should be happy & in a way, I am, but also a little scared/apprehensive at the same time. Not something I even thought about asking & right now, it wouldn't matter anyways as Im now on my 3rd week of being off work with no pay coming in at all. The surgeon says im a candidate for surgery & after talking with so many others that have been through similar, seems its best to get it actually fixed instead of just putting a band-aid on it, so to speak. Today I had a 3:15 appointment with my GP to get a pre-surgury phisical to make sure that I shouldn't have any complications from going under for the operation. I only took my morning pain meds & skipped my lunch pain pills cause I knew I needed to be as sober as possible for the ryde to the doctors. Well, it only seems logical (at least to me) that a person in my condition that isn't medicated, well, DUH, their gonna be in pain, right :dontknow: and how does pain usually manifest in the human body :hun: Elevated blood pressure, elevated heart rate, cold sweats even :dontknow: So yeah, she was concerned cause my bp & heart rate was way high for me compared to my historical norms, think something like 134/112 & 90 bpm, so she wanted to do an EKG just to make sure, but the nurse was having problems get'n those lil sticky things to stick to my skin cause I was kinda sweat'n something feirce from the pain of get'n on the byke & back off & walk'n to the drs office from the parking lot. And YES it was 55 degrees & sunny, so yeah, I geared up Teddy & we rode, only the 2nd time now in the past 3 weeks. After the EKG she said she knew I must be in an awful lot of pain, cause everything showed ok on the EKG & she gave me the "Go Ahead" for the surgery. So my next appointment is tomorrow for my consult with the surgeon to go over everything for Friday. I brought our 7" Galaxy Tab with me to the hospital so I could keep y'all updated on my progress & one of the nurses saw it & asked about the background pic of Teddy, so of course, I had to show her his pics & even the video of him ryde'n on the back & she was busting out in laughter. Then the word musta spread, cause another nurse wanted to see & then another. One even thanked me & said that familiar phrase, "You know, I was bummed out cause I got called in tonight, but see'n that, you just made my day, thank you!"

Hearing that never gets old, puts a smile on my face & that warm fuzzy fealing in my heart:rolleyes:

Guess they were pumping me full of liquids with that IV cause I had to get up & go to the bathroom 9 times over night. Needless to say, I haven't got much sleep at all & yeah, get'n out of bed is extremely painful right now. Thank goodness for Morphine & muscle relaxers  This Pod, where I am, the nurses walk around with a portable computer on wheels, almost like a robot of sorts, but thats how anything & everything is tracked, including me. Everytime they give me something, they have to scan my bracelet & then whatever they are giving me & also scan their key card. Well their "robot on wheels" is also on line & earlier in the night, I had told the nurses about Teddy & how he's got his own thread on SpyderLovers.com where we chronical our Spyder'n Adventures. Next thing I know, she's got this site pulled up on her robo-puter & she's asking me how to find Teddys Adventures thread :firstplace::rolleyes:

My surgeon just left after telling me about what all he found while he was in there. They got me up & walking using a walker & then, very slowly, up two flights of stairs. Thought it was gonna kill me, but I had to do it if I wanted to be released today, so I grinned & beared it, gotta get home to Teddy. :clap:He musta licked me up & down for a solid 5 minutes:clap:

Its good to be home, but I didn't realize how much pain I would be in durring this recovery period.
While in the hospital, I was given morphine for the pain, along with muscle relaxers & that made the pain very manageable.

But now that I'm back home, its back to the Percocets & Flexeril, and well, its not nearly as effective, I'll just say that.
Just getting up from a sitting position is a major challenge right now.
And I gotta remember no BLTs

So GLAD you are back home :clap:and I know Teddy is sure thrilled. He will take good care of you. Most important thing for you now is to rest and let the body heal. If the doctor told you to get out and walk.... then do it. It was hard for me at first and I did not enjoy using a walker around the subdivision... but in the end it did make things go better. Dave, Flexeril did not work for me and I had the doctor change it to Skelaxin (generic is Metaxalone 800 mg). I would have to say some of the muscle spasms were worse than the healing from surgery. When they hit, the HIT and it is no fun especially when you are just behaving, doing nothing and one of them just up and grabs you. I am one of those people that can't take percocets (really make me feel bad bad bad and stupid). Instead I have oxycodine. So if you don't think what you have is working don't be afraid to ask for something different.

How long did the doctor say you would be off work and off the bike? Just so great to hear your good news. We are all hoping and praying for a speedy recovery cause you know we all would love to see you at SpyderFest. And if you can't come we know you will be there in spirit. Keep us posted:pray:

When my surgeon filled out my short-term disability paperwork, he put my "Projected" return to work date of May 1st, albeit thats just an estimate for the paperwork & it all really depends on just how well I'm progressing with time. I do have a somewhat physical job, not sitting at a desk push'n papers. I work at the Ford plant in Sharonville & there's just me & one other employee in my Department, manufacturing Direct & Forward Clutches for the soon to be discontinued 5R110W Heavy Duty Automatic Transmissions. Its being phased out & replaced with the new 6R Heavy Duty Transmission. Thankfully, I'm NOT in Assembly, as that is one of the hardest & most soul killing departments in the whole plant, IMHO. Some ppl are ok with doing the same exact thing over & over again, but that's not me. I like having the freedom of do'n what I want when I want at my own pace & I know I'm weird, as I actually LIKE to work :yikes: Luckily, the clutches that we manufacture in my department aren't that heavy, less than 5pounds & most of my job is just making sure all the machines stay running & wrestling with that dang Automatic Laser Welder thats a P.O.S.:sour: I can't imagine that I'll actually be off until May 1st, but if that IS the case, then Teddy & I WOULD be able to attend SpyderFest. If I go back sooner, then I doubt I would be able to take off the time needed to attend :banghead: so here's to Hoping & Teddy & I are keep'n our fingers crossed

Its a BEAUTIFUL early spring day here in the Cincy area, with the sun shining bright & the temps hovering right around 70 degrees. I had the condo closed up tight cause it was in the 40s overnight so we had to have the heat on. Right around noon, I kept hearing the pipes of bikes on the road down below us, so I made my way to the balcony to see what all was making the noise & thats when I found out it was colder inside our condo than it was outside. I can walk ok, just very gingerly tho. So, keep'n in mind no B.L.T.s I decided I might as well try taking Teddy out to go potty myself, giving my best (human) friend the day off so he could spend it with his daughter, since he's recently divorced & this is his weekend to have her. Going down the steps, one step at a time & I made it without causing myself too much additional pain. My surgeon did tell me that the best therapy I can do for myself right now is just walking, a little more each day, so yeah, I took Teddy for a short lil walk, maybe a block in total. But on our way back to our condo, we had to walk right by our garage where Teds Red Sled has been slumbering ever since my back issues started, almost a month ago. I'll admit, psychologically speaking, I'm VERY week right now, being bummed we can't ryde every day like we've both been acustomed to for the past 2 years now. So - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 41918419194192041921

With yesterday being such a nice day (Sunny, dry & almost 70) I just couldn't resist gear'n up the Tedster & myself & taking a short lil ryde on Teds Red Sled & feeling the fresh air & warm sun on our faces again. I needed to get a script filled at Walgreens for more pain meds, so I used that as my excuse to get out on the road & enjoy a nice, relaxing, slow paced ryde through the city. I didn't go on the highway at all, and kept to all side roads not going any faster than 35 MPH and Teds Sled set to the "softest" setting on the rear air bag to help the Spyder to absorb most of the road imperfections that we encountered instead of me having to absorb them. With having the Utopia Back Rest to help support my back and the soft setting on the suspension, getting on & off the Spyder was my biggest issue, but even that was tollerable. Today, I'm very sore, not really from ryding, but more from walking up & down the steps & our driveway down to the street is pretty long and at a very steep angle, but again, the ryde was SO worth it.

We went through the drive thru at Walgreens & I swear, you woulda thought Brad & Angalina were there with as many cameras that were brought out & everyone around asking if it was ok to take pics of The Tedster do'n his thang. Even the clerk inside had her camera phone out snapping away & she got all the other pharmisits coming to the window to check him out. She had to apologize to the other ppl in line, cause she was taking so long taking pics of us that she was backing up the waiting line of cars around us, but the ppl didn't care, cause they were all as enamored as she was. We musta been there for 10-15 minutes and had at least a dozen or so ppl asking if they could take pics, all awhile, Teddy was standing up in his carrier with his Viper Red Doggles on, & pose'n for his adoring fans. I swear, he's such a poser -lol-

I posted a few pics of our outting on yesterdays post that I took when we stopped by our local channel 9 news station offices on our way home. Pretty neat place that has the facade of a historical castle at the very front of their lot, thought it made for an interesting back-drop for pics of Teddy & his SpYder.

My best (human) friend just stopped by to take Teddy out & he brought a gift of a whole bunch (he guessed 10 pounds) of chicken casserol that my co-worker (Mary) had made for me. She's so nice & I'm so lucky. Most departments at my work are large departments with many employees, and not all of them get along well together with each having their own personalities. But her & I are the only 2 ppl in our department, cause the department is being phased out in the next year or so, so they leave it to just the 2 of us. But now, she's having to do it ALL by herself, & that's not an easy job to do, but whenever she has an issue on my side, she just gives me a call & I walk her through it. She called a couple minutes ago, to check on how I was do'n & to make sure I got the food she had made for me & when I told her my "projected" return date is May 1st  she about had a heart attack:banghead: She then said, fine, do want you need to do to get better, but just be forwarned, as soon as you come back, you better believe I'm going to take every vacation & personal day that I can :cheers::yes:

A month or so ago, I detoxed myself off of caffiene. Coffe at work & diet sodas had me horribly addicted & I suffered cold turkey through 3 days of hell to rid my body of this all to common addiction. Well, since I had surgery, the only thing I've been drinking was water and decaf green tea that I made myself here at home. Last night, I didn't understand why I had all of the same withdrawal symptoms that I experienced before, and they carried over to today, & I was getting really worried, cause nausia is also a common symptom, along with fatigue & severe headache. And in my present state, with my incission not yet healed, the involuntary heaving that goes along with nausia would surely cause me more complications, that I just don't need at this time. Well come to find out, thru a little research on the web, even tho something may be labled as decaf, its truely NOT 100% caffiene free  Sadly, thinking I was doing well for myself by brewing my own "healthy" green tea & thinking it was caffiene free, I ended up once again addicted to caffiene. I had finished off the last of the green tea that I had brewed 2 days ago, and had been drinking only water since. And as I said, all the symptoms were back & with a vengence. When my friend stopped by today, I had him run to the store for me to get some Excedrin & also some diet Mt.Dew. Now is not the time for me to be fighting an addiction, so I just decided it best to just give in for now & once I'm back in shape & not having to worry about splitting my incission back open again, then I can once again deal with detoxing from caffiene. Thankfully, an hour after drinking the diet dew, my nausia is gone & my horrible headache is start'n to subside.

Besides that bit of added drama, I'm still not able to do much besides lay here on the couch. Was good to see Coz when he stopped by the other day, but stupid me, I over did walk'n around & show'n him my thoughts of mod'n Teds Red Sled. Its just so easy to get excited and over doing it, cause you really don't realize it until its too late & then Im pay'n for it the next day. Albeit slowly, Im learn'n my limitations & as I said, we're make'n it.

Im SO thankful for Teddy, he's lay'n right by my side, not pissed or upset that Im not able to take him out walking or ryde'n as we usually do & just as happy to be schmooze'n at my side:bowdown:

Dave,
I know the addiction to diet dew all to well. I have to have every morning or I get a splitting headache. So I just come to accept that I have to have it and then drink water the rest of the day.
Hope you are up and ridin' soon. Teddy..take care of Dave!

I'm a little worried about getting addicted to the percocets. Since surgery, taking them as prescribed, I've gone through over 60 or 70 now and am not sure how to procede. I mean, the pain is there & constant, & the percs. don't do alot to help really, but they do allow me to stay chilled out and chill'n for the most part on the couch & not pushing myself to hard. We're having early Spring here in the Ohio Valley, sunny with a little rain here & there, but temps. in th upper 60's to 80 even. Kill'n me not to be able to ryde :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I agree with Spyderlady..... REST is what you really right now. If you do what you should do now, ....go for walks and chill, in the long run you will recover quicker. You don't want any setbacks ! As far as the percocets go, you are still pretty fresh out of surgery and shouldn't suffer through the pain if you don't have to. God knows you've done enough of that already... Usually the docs order the pain meds every 4 to 6 hours AS NEEDED... So in a way they leave it up to you. Just gradually try to increase the amount of time in between doses.... I'm so happy to hear you're recovering and you and Teddy will be back on the road on " TEDS RED SLED " in no time.

You know, Teddy & I tend to get around on his Spyder & we've got over 35,000 miles collectively, from our 2010 RT-S & now our 2011 RT-S. We've only done a few Spyder events, none in 2010 cause that byke was always in the shop:sour:, so most of them was in 2011.

Lets see, we did SpyderFest 2011 in Cuba, we did SITA in New York State, the OSR weekend in the wonderful Hocking Hills (can't show the videos of that party trip:yes:its a family forum:opps:) the Indy group showed us all around Brown County for a wonderful day-ryde, and I'm sure their are some events that escape my mind right now, but we've also even visited a few SpyderLovers members at their homes while on long trips & everyone has been wonderful hosts to both of us, never met a SpyderLover we haven't had a good time with & I THANK ALL OF YOU FOR THAT!!!

But today, I was sent a pic of Teddy & myself with a fellow SpyderLover that we met at SpyderFest last year, that I didn't even know who they were, here on the forum:opps:. I usually try to take my own pics to help me to remember all of our adventures and the wonderful ppl that we've shared our love of Spyder ryde'n with. But with my ADHD and ALL of the attention Teddy & the Spyder garner, well, I'm embarrassed to admit, names escape me more often than not. But as soon as I see a picture, the wonderful memory (albeit not the name:opps:) & the feelings & emotions of that very moment come rushing back, as if we were right back there again.

This not only happened once today, but when I sent a PM to another forum member, that I didn't think I knew, he sent me back a reply that stunned me. He told me that we had in fact, met before & described the situation of him even filming Teddy & I, & once again, those wonderful memories were brought right back to me.

I guess I've been going thru alot & this was just what I needed to remind me, how good it will be once I'm better & Teddy & I can once again be out on the open road, doing what we love, and meeting so many Wonderful people along the way. Having someone tell us, "You know, you just made my day" will never get old.

In the spirit of this, I'd like to share a few pics that we've taken with a few fellow SpyderLovers along our journeys. Some might be embarrassing (sorry Holly) so if you'd rather I take them down, just send me a PM & I will do so ASAP. Otherwise, I thought it may be nice to bring a smile or two, to some of our fellow SpyderLovers out there.

Also, any of you that have pics of Teddy & yourselves, please, feel free to share them here with us.
I know it always makes me smile see'n the Tedster ham'n it up with his adoring fans. Thanks guys :bowdown::yes:

Its 11:30pm & 75 degrees here, just took The Tedster for our second walk of the day, after reading my "Lumbar" book from the hospital from cover to cover. I need to be walking up to 3 miles by 6 weeks, & am up to about a half mile at 10 days, so I think I'm on track. Reading about all of you other Spyder Ryders get'n out there & enjoy'n much of the countries great weather makes me wanna be stupid & take Teds Sled out for a quick lil ryde. So, I've taken the Frunk Lid off & its sit'n here in the living room, with me try'n to figure out how to apply a custom Frunk Wrap to it. Still thought about taking it for a quick spin & I could just imagine what ppls expressions would be like seeing a Spyder without its Frunk on :roflblack:

DO NOT DO IT. You will regret it and lots of us will be after you:lecturef_smilie:
:lecturef_smilie::lecturef_smilie: We want you at Spyderfest!

We went on our walks yesterday, like the good boys that we are:thumbup: but before my buddy left yesterday, I made sure to have him reinstall the Frunk cover back onto Teds Red Sled for our ryde to the docs office today. At 10pm last night, I found ourselves out in the driveway to let Teddy "do his thang" but me with garage remote in hand, not exactly knowing why. Well, since todays ryde will be our first in over a week, I just "NEEDED" to make sure the Red Sled would power up out of its L O N G slumber, so we found ourselves in the garage, Teddy all EXCITED thinking we're going for a late night ryde, sit'n in his carrier, wondering why we're not leaving :dontknow: and me just standing next to the sled listening to the exhaust as I roll on the throttle :clap:

I hardly got any sleep last night, but am amped to get to ryde with Teddy to the Drs office in just a couple of hours & I promised Bob that we'd stop by StrasseDog to pick up a pair of Doggles & a doggy-thermus for Tink on our way home :yes::clap:

My 1st follow-up appointment after surgery was today at 1:30, beautiful, sunny, & 84, tho the Spyders temp. gauge was reading 100 in the sun. We left home at 1pm, & Teds Red Sled exhibited some of those "gremlins" like "check engine" light came on, but once under way, promptly went off with no return, since not being ridden in so long, I'm guessing. So, after gearing myself & Teddy up we pulled outta the garage & proceeded down the driveway when I noticed the time on the Spyders display was an hour behind, so we stopped at the end of the driveway (steep incline) & I proceeded to change the time & that's when we got the check engine light, but since we were stopped on a steep incline, I figured thats what was causing it & sure enough, as soon as we were under way, it cleared & never returned.

I had forgotten, but was quickly reminded that over the (none existant for us at least) winter I had removed the SpyderPops "LeBlock" heat shield to allow more heat on my right foot durring the colder riding season & as soon as my right foot went on the highway peg, WOW! It felt as if a torch was being held to my right ankle & I quickly put it back down to the pegs. Gotta dig that heat shield back out, otherwise our highway pegs are just about useless in this insane heat wave we're having right now.

So we had the usual "shadows" for our trip to the office. You know, the ppl on the road that keep the same pace with you so they can take pics\video of you (Teddy) while your riding & giving us the thumbs-up when I would look over at them. In total for our outting today, I lost count at 27, the number of ppl that I know of that were taking pics of Teddy & that's just the number that either asked if they could or I saw, so I know there were many more than that.

Got to the office & ALL of the Front Office Staff were instantly smitten with Teddy. I always feel bad, cause Teddy just stops the world when he's in public, so the phones were all put on hold while person after person got out their camera phones to get a pic with him & he would sit there as I would put his Doggles on & he even waits & poses for them. Finally someone realized that no-one was working & all the lines were on hold & they all went back to work.

We were quickly taken back to an exam room & my surgeon promptly walks in, all smiles at the site of finally meeting Teddy after see'n so many pics & hearing all about the lil guy while I was in the hospital immediatly after my surgery. After giving Teddy attention, he did a quick exam of me & was happy with my progress & noted that my incission is almost healed. We discussed my progress with walking & that I was anxious to start physical therapy & "most importantly" if we could start ryding again. I was a little surprised, but extremely happy that he agreed that we could, in fact, start ryding again, albeit no long rydes (50+ miles) as long as I'm continuing with my walking regimen & listening to my body & not pushing myself too hard. I explained that I was a little concerned about returning to work, cause my job is physically demanding requiring me to be constantly on my feet with alot of lifting/twisting & moving around. He agreed to start me on physical therapy next week & that we would go that route until I see him again in a month, and then see how I'm progressing. So its looking like May 1st is still a good estimate for me to return to work, again, all depending on my progress. They have physical therapy available at the same location, so we went back to that location, where everything with Teddy repeated itself again, with all the OOOOOOHHHS & AAAAAHHHSSSS & requests for pics, from the staff & even some of the other patients. My 1st therapy session starts next week on Tuesday - YEAH!!!

After getting everything scheduled, Teddy posed for the final photo ops & we headed back out to the Spyder to take our leave. As I was getting Teddy & myself geared up, 4 or 5 ppl came out of the Sports Complex to see Teddy & to ask if it was ok to take pics of the lil poser, which of course, we oblidged. "WARNING TO ANY SPYDER OWNERS THINKING OF RYDE'N WITH YOUR POOCH, GET USE TO THIS, AS IT NEVER STOPS!"

So we headed towards home, but decided to go thru the drive-thru at McyD's & eat our lunch at the overlook in Eden Park just east of downtown. That particular McDonalds is kind of in "The Hood" but even there, the drug dealers & what-have-you were all thumbs up & holler'n out loud "THATS THE COOLEST DAMN DOG I EVA SAW" I swear, its the same wherever we go.

So, after pose'n for pics in the drivethru & get'n our food, we headed to the park, where this all took place over and over again. As I said, I lost count at 27 requests & even had ppl wanting me to explain about the Spyder & if they could take pics of Teddy pose'n while on the byke, over & over again.

After the park we headed to StrasseDog in Mainstrasse Villiage so we could pick up a pair of Doggles & water thermus for Fellow Spyder Ryder Bob, who's just start'n to ryde with his new Pomeranian puppy Tink & once again, out came the camera phones. Bob, I hope your prepaired for ALL this attention.

We made it home a little bit ago & we're both chill'n out & resting right now, til the sun starts to go down & it cools off a little, then we'll head out for a little more walking. All in all, a good day, just a bit overwhelming for our first day back out in the public
