View Full Version : Need your help planning the Lamonster BBQ

Lamonster
12-11-2011, 12:26 PM
I was talking with another member last night about my ideas for the Lamonster BBQ next year. Right now we know we have Spyderfest in Cuba MO (April 25 to 29) and the BRP Spyder Owners Event in Durango CO sometime in June. These are the two big events and depending on the turnout this would be the third largest Spyder event if you guys show up again. :doorag:

My plans are to make this a three day event (wife is going to kill me). :yikes:

First day would be a workshop at my place. I would need folks that are willing to bring some hand tools and be willing to help others work on their Spyder. We could show folks how to change oil, check belt tension and even install accessories. I'm sure there are plenty of capable SpyderLovers that would be willing to either do the work or help teach someone that was willing to learn. We could help with the tools and help you if you get stuck on something. Everyone else could just watch and fellowship and maybe cook some burgers and dogs.
:bbq: :doorag:

The next day we would ride. As you all know there are a ton of great riding spots in the area and I can think of some good routes that would pretty much take up the whole day and you would never see the same thing twice.

the last day would be the real BBQ where I would bring in my guy and we would do like we have for the last few years. From there you could head back home or hang around, that would be up to you.

Right now I'm thinking a Thursday, Friday, Saturday thing. What I don't know is when and that's another thing I could use your help on. I'm looking at the months of August, September or October. Got to remember Biketoberfest in October so I'm not sure if that would work. :dontknow:

So what are your suggestions? Is there already too many things going on next year? Should we even plan for this?

I'm going to Cuba then hopefully if timing is right for us Durango. Which I think the best part would be to hookup with others in June.
It would be nice if you had something in late August or early September. Not been to your place yet and would love to ride that area next year. It's on the bucket list for us. Judy wants to do Cumberland moon glow also. I could knock to birds out with one stone.

Sounds like another great Spyder event! How about Labor Day weekend, or later when it starts to cool off a little.

Late October would avoid Biketoberfest (which really doesn't draw that many Spyderlovers) and set up a view of beautiful fall colors...

Chris is bound to have your hide! :lecturef_smilie: You have gone quite a distance from wondering whether or not to have another BBQ, to a three day wingding. All I can say is "Bless your dear heart!" I liked the September event I attended, but it was unusually warm that year. I think late August or mid-September would work well, but as retirees and empty-nesters, we have no other things competing for our time and attention. As long as it doesn't iterfere with anything that is already on our schedule, we will show up whenever you decide to do it.....preferably not in January. :roflblack:

you know...hotglue and I have been thinking about starting a Spyderlovers event....vendors......maybe a dealer....we have a shop with lift and all the tools....the place to party....a smoker of sorts.....area for camping.....we were thinking ???????when ever you decide on a date....we will start with our party.... sure wish we could combine them......you have the best roads.....

Any of the three months would work for us so will go with the majority. Didn't make it last year so will plan this year for sure. Will begin looking at places to stay as well. I can bring tools but haven't done any work on the Spyder myself. Will be willing to help where we can. At this point, we're not sure if we'll be able to make Spyderfeast or the owners event :(

Can't make Spyderfest, definately can't go allthe way to CO. Still sort of new to spyder world, really want to attend a spyder event, would love to be able to attend this, east Tn isn't that bad. We have poultry farm, so everything hinges around that schedule. Can plan somewhat close when a date is decided. I vote for September, August could be too hot, October has chance of turning cold up there.

For Lamont's BBQ and a chance to ryde some of the best roads around, I'll be be there what ever the date is for a week. No problem helping or doing oil changes. Maybe Ron could put together a package of his filters and Amsoil. Only thing I would suggest is that there should also be a supply of drain plugs in case one gets stripped . I'm good to work on an RS or RT.

This will be our 4th BBQ. Thanks Lamont and Chris.

Betty Boop and I don't care Lamont is only 80 miles away!!!

September is a good stable month for no rain and decent temperatures, just starting to get below 90 and nights in upper 60's....Looking forward to the first Lamonster BBQ!!!

So late September would give people time to get back from Spyders in the Redwoods if it is going to happen again this year and it is the first of August.

Spyderfest April 25, 2012 - April 29, 2012
Owners Event June
Spyders in the Redwood August
Lamonster BBQ September

Biketoberfest Oct 18, 2012 - Oct 21, 2012

just something to think about.

We are looking at making everything but Biketoberfest and we might just do it too.

I agree with John. (although I would make myself available anytime). Late October would be great. I'd plan on making it at least a week to ten day adventure so that Cindy & I could help.

I'll try to make it most anytime. If it's during school Geri will be working, but if it's during the traditional summer vacation she'll likely come along, although we plan to spend most of July in CO. Unfortunately my mechanical skills are only surpassed by my musical skills - which are totally non-existent. But I'd be happy to help any way I can.

By the way I've had more action in PM's and emails about this and the support has been great. In my earlier life when my toy’s were Corvettes the club I was with ( Mid Atlantic Chapter / National Corvette Restores Society (NCRS) ) held a three day event every Labor day weekend in Cumberland, MD at one of our members farm.

The format was simple,

Friday: people started arriving early afternoon and we had crabs & beer that evening and casual socializing.

Saturday: Tech sessions, car judging, evening picnic and casual socializing.

Sunday: Road tour and more casual socializing.
This was the one “can’t miss” club event of the year.
I’m suggesting Labor Day weekend but there is a something to be said about late September early October with cooler temps. I'm new to this :f_spider: thing but whatever dates you pick I will be there...

I'm in as long as you set a date early.

- I can change the oil on an RS blind folded
- I can swap out shocks
- Change plugs
- Install some options
- Pull frunks and grease joints
- Install juice boxes

I assume either you will have supplies there for sale so people don't have to bring their own supplies for things like oil changes, etc. Baja Ron to the rescue?

Anything else would require me to trailer the spyder in order to have space for other stuff.

Would love to learn how to check belt tension *Properly or actually see a rear wheel removed and reinstalled.

We could also do a spyder wash with a donation bucket and pick a local charity to donate the proceeds to... or something of the sort.

Doc better have his Silver Dream there with the new powerplant by then!

Us mid northerners ( Ohio ) tend to get some cold weather off and on in early October , especially in the mornings. Headed to Tenn this last October and nearly froze ( 38 when we left at 0730 ) plumb to death until temps warmed up around noon. Once we got to Tenn the temps were great and great all the way home . Sept. sometime would seem excellent for our area .Course I could just leave the wife at home and then I wouldn't have to worry about cold....LOL

Questions

Where would it be held?

Should we even plan for this?

we go over to live oak about 6 times a year to eat at sheryls and the dixie cafe.
ride with the southern cruisers here in jax
i'll contact you when we go again and you might want to ride with us oon some of the curvey roads just east and south of live oak
we have 4 spyders in our riding group.

We have a wedding in VT over Labor Day weekend and will prolly be visiting a few other friends and doing some other Spydering after that. So later in Sept. or Oct. would be better for me.

Any luck nailing down a date yet. This will probably be the only "spdyer" function my wife and I can both go to. But we need to know what the dates are so we can ask off from work. Can't wait to meet more spyderlovers. I've got the soldering iron and wire already to go for the electrical gadget help.

I vote for early September as October can be too chilly in the mountains for it to be enjoyable to stand around outside or ride. As the other two events are too far away to attend, I am REALLY excited about a get-together closer to home. Thank you so much for offering this opportunity!

:)Love BBQ as I love my spyder! Sept sounds great, and any ride in eastern Ky. or Tn is a great ride (home for me while growing up). Am new to spyder lovers and am jumping to meet others and ride for fun. Need to know more about the maintenance and accessories though. Just set a date and I will plan for it. Want to go to Cuba also but would be a long ride from Savannah, Ga. where home currently is.

Lamont's barbecue is a blast and with the workshop it will be extra good.

Last year I came after being in Wi. This year it might be another ryde thru Ia to Wi to Il. to In to Kn to Tn. 21 22 &23 Sept are my dates in Wi for the 50th HS reunion:yikes:. And since we had a small class to begin with and now it's even smaller I have to go there:rolleyes:. Soo mid Sept or after the 25th of Sept is GREAT for Me. ( not sure my animal babysitters will be real happy) It would be different if I went to your thing first then north from there:ohyea:. But Would REALLY REALLY like to go to the best BBQ in the lower 48!!!:2thumbs:

This will be the only event we will be able to attend this year, so August, September or October will be great. Just let me, Black Knight and I will be there!

Last year was my first partial year as a Spyder owner. I missed the BBQ but made the maggie valley rally. The date doesn't matter to me although August can get hot at times in this area. (I live 30 miles from Lamont). Can't wait for it. I can see the "LamontaQ" being one of the highlights of the year for Spyders and BRP for this region of the Country. I have lived here (East Tenn. Area) all my life and riding is awesome! From all of the backroads to the Blue Ridge Parkway to the tail of the Dragon, no shortage of riding or sites to see. This is going to be a fantastic event. I also have two wheeler friends, are they welcome to come and meet the best group of riders in the country?

Or " Sept 1, 2, 3 "

Sounds like a great plan. I can bring tools and stuff. Pretty good at installing mods, oil changes, etc. if anyone want BRP sidecases installed you could have them shipped down there---I've done a few and have it down good.

You'll never find a date that works for everyone--- September sounds good for most.
