Fred Garrity a Trumbull resident, is the executive director of the CT United Ride, the largest 9/11 tribute ride in the state.

Garrity and the Fairfield County Labor Council organized the first CT United Ride as a fundraiser for the initial victims of 9/11, and it took place on Sept. 30, 2001, attracting 500 riders. With the success and support of the first event, it was decided to continue the CT United Ride as a tribute event each year, honoring the memories of all affected by 9/11. It is sponsored by the State Fire Fighters, and any money raised goes to family emergency relief funds for Connecticut police officers and firefighters and two local United*Ways.
