After a long day Tuesday with the BRP film crew we finished up the shoot on Wednesday morning at V8Choppers booth. They wanted to focus on why I like going to Sturgis through out the shoot and this stop was a big part of it. There was no way I was going to ride one the day before even though that was our last stop, I was just too beat and you need to have your head on straight when you ride one of these bad boys.

The owner Stan and I go way back and one of his customers is Dave and he builds some crazy horsepower motors. The one he's building now has a hollow crank that weighs in at 35 lbs and produces over 600hp and will be a 100 lbs lighter than any of the other choppers he's built. Two guys can lift the motor at 300 lbs. I rode two of his 600hp choppers last year and the one with the all aluminum block was much quicker off the line and could put the tire up in smoke at will. When we got there Dave asked me if I wanted to take out one of his Hotrods, he knew the answer before he asked me. This bike dynoed at 601hp and it had a 200hp shot of nitrous on top of that. To be honest right now I don't have the nads to hit that button on two wheels.

I setup a ride for Len as he is a big chopper fan and has a pretty fast bike but he's always wanted to ride a V8 Chopper. Now Harvey on the other hand is a big Hotrod guy but didn't want to ride one for whatever reason, so he said. I was surprised to see his butt on one when I got back from my little ride. :doorag:

Here's Len on a 400hp V8 Chopper getting some instruction from Stan

I didn't get to ride with Len because I was filling up Daves bike at the time and got stuck at the gas station getting my picture taken and answering questions. It's pretty much like the Spyder except the questions and comments are "are you crazy?" and "that's the coolest bike I've ever seen, can I take your picture".

So I fill up and head back to V8Choppers to go for a ride and who do I see on a Chopper? you guessed it, Harvey.

He looked so cool on that thing and it even made his butt look small. ;)

So these guys turned around near the Spyder demo area but I just had to take a romp on the open road so I hit the highway to see what this thing would do. The last time I rode one of the 600hp bikes in Daytona and Dave and I went for a nice long ride but I was limited to how much I could open it up by the pain in my ears. These have open headers and sound like NASCAR's. This time I was smart and put in my earbuds and that helped a bunch.

Let me just put out a disclaimer right here. I was riding without a helmet and going faster than the speed limit but there were no other bikes, cars, trucks or on ramps where I got on it. I do not recommend anyone do what I did. As I've been told many times before "I ain't right"

All V8's pull hard from the get go but the real ride doesn't start till you get into the secondaries, that's when the E ticket begins. So I run it up to about 80 mph and whack it full throttle and let's just say I was well into the triple digits pretty darn quick. Then I thought my world was coming to an end when I heard the most god-awful sound coming from the bike. I was sure I just blew something up and I was waiting for the parts to start spitting out all over the road. Turns out the wind at that speed had ripped the earbuds right out of my head and I was hearing the full effect of the wind and the motor. Needless to say I was happy I didn't blowup Daves $90,000 motorcycle.

When I got back I was so pumped up that my hands were shaking uncontrollably. This was the rush I didn't get the week before when I went Skydiving. I'm getting all shaky right now just typing it. That is a rush of a lifetime and it never gets old for me.

I would like to thank Stan for letting my buddies take out the Choppers and Dave for letting me take his baby out and open it up. These bikes are the top of the food chain when it comes to cool. Thanks again guys, see you at Biketoberfest.

This is the same bike that Stan had built 8 years ago when I met him. He's come a long way since then and has worked hard to build something that stands out in the crowd.

LaMont, did you by chance get an audio clip of one of these bad boys? I would love to hear how these sound.

Edit: Maybe you did already. You-Tube is blocked by our IT group at work. :(
