BMW K1600L

Got to see a Demo K1600 this morning - killer sounding bike - looks are soooo K1300GT, but the GTL has a starting price of $26,340 :yikes:, which makes the new Spyder RTs look like a real bargain.

It has about 60% less storage (no frunk - go figure), but 165hp, and 6cyl torque. However, even with the (optional) $2k safety features, it still only has two wheels, and is a handful in heavy (stop & go) traffic.

Since there's no 2011 GWs, and the '10s are generally in the same range, the RT L might be the best touring option out there...

Goldwing has been updated in styling and features. They are calling it a 2012 instead of a 2011. It is also in the high 20's. I test sat a GW 2010 and it was a handfull for me.

The new BMW 1600 looks like a good GW alternative--have not had a chance to see one of those yet. It looks like it will be a great touring bike.

Still sticking with my 2010 RTS--it has most of the touring features that I desire--and I don't have to worry about dropping it because I get it off balance at a stop sign.

My only gripe is--I wish the RTS had a bigger engine--as in 1200-1500 cc and 4 or 6 cylinder--for quietness and smoothness. I believe that Rotax does not have that type of configuration though.

There really are some nice "full blown" touring bike choices out there--but all are hitting that 30K price range now. It is a world of choices, choices, choices.

:agree: I totally agree with all your statements. Both the BMW and the new Wings are beautiful machines. However, I, too, will stick with my "underpowered" RT-S. I love it to tiny little bits!!!:yes::yes:

I sold my '08 BMW K1200 in '09 to get my first Spyder:clap:. I got my RT in 2010:2thumbs:. I never regretted getting rid of the Beemer:lecturef_smilie:. I found it too fast, too high and too uncomfortable. My main complaint was that there was absolutely no place to mount highway pegs and on long trips, my knees and hips would kill me. Dumping it a couple of times because of the high center of gravity didn't help either:(.

Rotax 912 & 914 are both 4cyl 4stroke engines….. and their 3cyl engines use for both marine and snowmobiles are in the 125 to 165hp range….. so, it IS possible..
