how many :spyder:ryders bring, and use, their covers when they travel? i have a cover, wich i use a lot at home, but until spyderfest have not spent night on road. i ryde a gs, no saddle bags, so am wondering if extra bulk of cover is worth the effort, thanks

I bring mine with when traveling and usually use it. I regard it as an overnight security measure, if nothing else. It also keeps you from coming out to a wet seat in the morning. Sometimes it's nice to leave it off overnight and let the dew soften up the previous days bugs for easier removal. I however, pull a trailer and am not pressed for storage space.

I use the half cover for my GS. It doesn't take up much space when folded and in bag.

I don't ever use mine I figure that it is easier to towel off a wet seat than it is to refold a wet cover.

When I'm at a hotel, I use the half cover to keep people from sitting on the spyder or messing with the controls/buttons. At work, I don't use it b/c I work in an area where they would steal the cover.

I have a cover and have never used it...I have an awning that goes over the seat when I leave the bike for a while...keeps the seat cool too...

Other than that, a waste of money for a cover...would really never waste the travel space for it...

The bike is waterproof...so am I...

I purchased the smaller Travel Cover, to replace the Outdoor Cover that cames with the 2010 RTS. I keep it in the rear trunk, and use it on the road. It takes up much less room than the Outdoor Cover. I'd suggest making a protection sleeve for the windshield (http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22031), if you use the Travel Cover. Unlike the Outdoor Cover, it does not have a built-in protector. My sleeve fits into the stuff sack with the cover. Here is a thread with a comparison of the two covers (http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17557).

For Nancy's RS, we use the travel cover when parked outside overnight at an event. It is really bulky, but stuffs into a camping stuffsack quite well. I forget the stuffsack's exact size, but I think it is about 7"x 11". It will fit in the front trunk or the saddlebags, but it does cut down the luggage room. That's usually OK, since traveling solo you can pack a duffel like a Seal-Line bag or a Helen2Wheels bag, and strap it to the seat. As an alternative, you can fabricate a seat rain cover (http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22035), and leave the rest exposed.

I have a Nelson Rigg half cover and it works great. Keeps the dew off the seat and rain when it is parked overnight. Also keeps people from sitting on it. The cover wasn't expensive and works well and is easy and quick to put on. It also doesn't take up a lot of room.

I have a cover that was bought for an BMW R1100RT. It fits the Spyder RT well enough and covers the windshield, seat, and rear trunk. I carry it in the rear trunk on overnight trips and use it at night if it looks like rain or a heavy dew may be coming. It's easy to put on but a little hard to stuff back into the carry bag in the morning especially if it's wet. It's worth the effort to avoid riding all day on a wet seat and my experience has been that, in a hard rain, enough moisture gets through the seams on the seat that it can't all be wiped off and it will be wet all day.

Just a thought:

One change from this post. I've installed the OEM CB/Intercom, so I now have two antennas. I had to cut a second hole, and have installed grommets for the holes.

I always travel with a cover of some sort. I currently use a half travel cover on my RT. I also would rather have a dry seat in the morning and the cover offers a small dgree of security since it takes away the opportunity to have someone sitting on the :spyder2: or playing with things they shouldn't.:lecturef_smilie:

We always have the outdoor cover with us when we travel........I have a leather bag attached to the passenger backrest which is large enought to fit the cover in. Like others said, keeps the uninvited guests off the :spyder:.

 Yup, me too. Always use the travel cover at a motel just to reduce the curiosity that has people fiddling with stuff.
