Has anyone cut a key without a chip to be able to unlock the rear trunk without using the chipped key? Would be nice to just have that key on the keyring.

Not yet...but that is a good idea. I have a buddy that is a lock smith and we usally have extra keys for everything.

I have one for my f150 and the mustang with out the chip. Opens the doors, the trunk on the car, it will turn the engine over, but will not start them...

We found out the had way that the 05 mustangs do not have a trunk release inside the car...

Where did you get it done? I tried Walmart but they didn't have the proper blank. I will look at other places now that I know it can be done.

Have to order blank from BRP, then have locksmith re key using your other one. I think blank costs $35

If anyone in the UK needs a Non chipped key Try TIMPSONS
They have over 659 Branches in the UK

They managed to cut 3 unchipped keys for me and if fact the Locksmith
said he could arrange to get a Micro-Chipped key but these would be on
special order

Suggest if anyones is interested they go along to their local branch

I have two that fit the trunk and the trailer, cant get it to fit ignition.
The info on the blank says the following:
usa
X140
VL8
ilco
I beleive it is a Volvo blank.

I had it made last summer at a key shop, and thet were very patient to keep trying blanks that did not work. I got no where with Walmart, Home Depot.etc.

I keep the spare in my coin pocket of my levis and keep the extra ignition key hidden in the trunk in case I lose the the other ignition key.

Let me know if this helps.

I know I had one made at a locksmith shop and the cost was around $15.00. I have the chipped key in the IPS and when someone notices that I don't have a key, I pull out the unchipped key from my jacket pocket and tell them it is a proximity chip and it won't work if its not within 3 feet.

$35 for a blank is way more than I want to pay. I will continue searching and if I find anything that works I will post. It will be $5 or less.

Just wondering;
If you put a NON chipped key in the ignition Without a chipped key close by,[ less than 100 feet]
Will it then disable the ignition so now the chipped key won't work any more?
I had a Ford Ranger and if you put a non chipped key in it everything would have to be re coded.:gaah:

The leading locksmith in my area was able to make a key, but it took him about ten minutes to find the right blank from his HUGE inventory. I THINK he said it was a BMW blank. Cost: under 4 bucks.

As it was previously mentioned... does this monkey up the ignition once the correct key is re-inserted and twisted??
It really does seem like a GREAT idea!

If you have a RT or RTS the glove box is a good place to hide it. Some machines came with the insert in it, these are not glued in and an un-chipped key would not be noticed under there. Even if found won't start machine, just keep spare chipped key in trunk. I don't know why not all RTs come with the inserts :dontknow: Gonna see about having spare made now I have numbers for my locksmith. Thank you. :2thumbs:

I have only lost a motorcycle key once in over 40 years of riding...1976 with a new GoldWing. Two years later I found the key sitting on top the cylinders. But the idea of keeping a chipped key in the rear trunk and the unchipped key on my keyring is a good idea. Trying to get home after losing a chipped Spyder key would not be fun.

Somewhere on the forum I came across the number for the blank - an ILCO X270, actually a X270 TMC1. It was also noted that this blank was for the Triumph motorcycles. Found a local locksmith in Ashland, OR who had 2 blanks labeled for Triumph bikes. He cut them both for me ($5 apiece) and then when I brought the Spyder over, he had to do some minor filing on the key part as well as grinding off the rectanglular part of the blank due to the collar around the keyhole to shape it similar to the real key. Both work perfectly to pop the frunk or seat. Now to find a suitable place to mount it. I figure duct tape someone under an accessible panel.

Where did you get it done? I tried Walmart but they didn't have the proper blank. I will look at other places now that I know it can be done.Usually has to be done at a serious locksmith shop since most stores dont carry the right blank. I had one made at Ricks Lock & Key in Chattanooga for about $3. I keep it taped inside one of the removable side panels and a real key stored inside the rear trunk.
