A local fellow Spyder rider has this installed on her phantom Spyder. The amp and stereo takes up a fair amount of room in the trunk, about half, if not more, of the space. The system sounds NIIIIICCCEE!!!! And the install in very clean.

Can you get pics of it? I'd like to see how it looks on a Phantom.

Yes, you still have half the room, but you won't be putting much more in there than maybe a half helmet and a pair of gloves.

Here is the only picture I have of her Spyder. She was in a local escort yesterday with some friends of ours on their blue RT. They escorted a young man to school on his bicycle with the American flag on the back. There is a post on the main forum.

Pics and vids can be found - google and you tube. Jl Audios official site as well -you can order it directly from them. The speaker pods are black and are contoured to match the spyders lines (probably looks best on a phantom)One things is they are large so you have to be into the bold look- think pimp my ride. Most likely 2 grand installed not including the ipod or its mount.

I saw the custom green bike with it. It looked like it got kicked is the azz and had it's frog nutz pushed to it's throat. The whole setup here in Canada I can get for $1200.00. I'll install it myself.

After my last post found a place near me - JL system with install and a two year warranty for $1,700.00. A two wheeler friend of mine saw a Spyder with this set up and remarked that it looked like someone slapped a big pair of stereo system speakers on it.

Yeah Ive been wondering if those JLs will appear too big on the spyder.

I'm sure you have seen this video on youtube :

I think this week I may pop the front instrument panel off and take a peek at the space behind to see if speakers will fit. I think someone else on the forum did the same thing. I guess JL made those speakers that size so you can get some sound while at speed.

I need to see the JL speakers in person to see how it looks. I'm still entertaining the idea of those speakers though.

I do have another idea XLT which I may try. heheh

Bose makes small PC speakers called the Bose Companion III for a home PC. You can demo it at bestbuy or see it via this link:
http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/digital_music_systems/computer_speakers/companion_3/index.jsp

The space behind the Spyders console will allow for 4"x4" speakers on each side that could play through the side vents.

The speaker system has a puck for sound control and two ports for head phones and sound INPUT ;)

This would make for putting XM or iphone connection right on the front of the bike via the puck.

There are a few drawbacks.
1: The speakers are not marine speakers/waterproof. So you cannot get them wet. But I can't imagine much water getting behind that dash though. Not sure how much it would rust from just normal moisture in the air. I'm sure you can make a little cover for the vent to protect them.

2: The bass speaker will take up the trunk and it is AC powered. I'm sure I could halve the speaker box if needed via my table saw and some glue.
The AC to DC conversion can be done via inverter from harborfreight $14.99. And the inverter has a USB charger on it too.

3: How to mount the speakers behind the little vents in the dash. hmm
I was thinking maybe some epoxy to some L-brackets or something. Then hook the speakers up to the brackets. This way you don't have to screw bolts through the plastic

4: how to water-proof the puck. not sure..

This setup would be around $300

You can probably do bluetooth streaming if you get a module and hook it to the input in the trunk. Belkin makes a bluetooth audio receiver that pops out to 3.5mm jack that you could input to the device. $50

So in theory you could stream pandora from your iphone to the speakers.

XLT,

I figured it would be almost impossible to hear music with a full faceshield above 35 MPH unless the music was full blast (which wouldn't be fair to the houses around me). So having the JL wouldn't be worth it for me. (I may change my mind in the summer though ;) )

I put the little bose system in and it's okay when im sitting at a light or going under 35. Rigged the system up to a relay so when the bike is on the stereo kicks in. I'll have to catch up with you one of these days to show you the setup. Only drawback is that I need a lock for my helmet now (or carry it around).

I have been wearing a pair of Oakley "THUMP" sunglasses. They have a built in MP3 player. The music is direct to the ear- great sound and they look good.
