View Full Version : WORST NEWS ABOUT MY SON

My son (41 Yrs. old) has been diagnosed with Hydrosyringomyelia. Doctor says it is more than likely caused from Spina Bifida, which is caused from me passing on Agent Orange from Vietnam.

At this point in time he will likely be completely paralyzed starting from his legs and working up his body to the base of his neck. Not sure how long this will take, he already has pain in his legs.

He will be seeing the best specialist we have found on 11/29. Still hoping for the best. Until then we are trying to keep an open mind about it all.

All you Nam vets please keep this in mind. As it wasn't apparent at birth, and the mass on his spinal cord (2.4 cm long) wasn't known about or had given him problems until recently.

I am very familiar with syringomyelia. Horrid disease! My neurologist was convinced that I had it, years ago, but I was fortunate that my neurological problem turned out to be due to another condition, and eventually improved. I will be praying for the best possible outcome for your son and for his concerned family. May your strength and love see you all through this very difficult hurdle.

Thanks for everybody's prayers and concerns.

Went to VA hospital today with a disc of the MRI. It is way worse than we thought. VA person in Syracuse has only seen three cases. Two of them Died. My son's is the worst they have seen. Makes it tough when the person at the VA hospital starts crying after looking at the MRI.

Was advised to get a lawyer by the person that is handling the case, so I have an appointment tomorrow.

I Won't be talking about this for a while unless something good happens.

I really appreciate everyones prayers and concerns.

Thanks!!

You and your son are in my thoughts and prayers. I must admit that I had never heard of this condition before so I did some research and was shocked to discover it is far more common than I would have expected (1:18,000).

Hopefully you have found a neurosurgeon that specializes in this. God bless you both

Bob, You guys are in our thoughts and prayers! I would like to offer you one bit of wisdom that was passed on to me from my Grandfather. "The strongest steel has always been tempered in fire..." This is a horrible thing to have happen; but please don't let it weaken your faith
