View Full Version : Motorcycle Study Survey Card

In the mail today, I got a card for a survey through "motorcyclestudy.com". I don't know if I got this because of magazine subcriptions, but anyway I was curious and answered the survey.

At one point it got pretty clear that the survey asked questions that could be used in developing new spyder models. For one question, they described the spyder perfectly and asked what kind of variation I'd be interested in buying. The survey listed:

-Luxury Touring Version
-Cruiser Version
-Sporty Version
-Luxury Cruiser Touring Version
-Sport Touring Version

Each of those had description for body style, seating position and included accessories. I was very surprised and by the proposed options and got kind of excited about possible future models.

Anybody else got this? What were your thoughts?

I would be willing to bet that Honda is behind it. They are looking at coming out with their own version of a Spyder.

Interesting.

If it is Honda and they come up with something like the spyder, I may very well switch teams.

How many people who received the card, completed the survey on the "other forum" for a chance at winning $250? Just curious.

The card I got said $500 and there is a spyder RT on the front at the bottom.

I took the survey and thought it was from BRP. Thinking back they asked if I would be interested in an all electric model sounds more like Honda. :dontknow:

I received a card in the mail today too. I have completed the study/survey this evening but decided to write to the included email address and ask the questions:

- Who are you?
- Who are you collecting information for?
and
- How will this information be used?

If I hear anything back, I'll be happy to pass it along...

Nope, nothin yet. It's only a matter of time before another manufacturer sees the potential of this market and brings their considerable engineering resources to bare. This of course will raise the stakes for all players involved. This of course would be BRP!

This is good though. It will force BRP to innovate and work on the product so that it can take on all comers. It's that or extinction. I look forward to see what comes down the pike!

Curious.. I got it, answered, started to fill out the "survey", until they asked what was the most recent bike I purchased. Then, I answered (truthfully) the most RECENT purchase was my 2000 BMW 1150GS (bought since I acquired the Spyder in Feb '08). They promptly stopped the survey, thanked me for participating and ended the exercise??? WTF?:dontknow:

This does smell alot like a Honda probe!! Not so sure about the electric motor factor. Part of the experience is hearing that engine sing man! I don't think I would like an all-electric power plant for a number of reasons. That's just me though!

Good info Doc!

Brandspark is just a marketing firm. They work for money. The question is not "who is Brandspark?" The question is " Who is paying them for this?"

That info will not likely be public....and it could be anybody (including Honda)

Long for some, short for others. Next question dependent on how you answer current questions. If you respond you own a spyder questions will be geared towards spyder. Basic market research- they will likely try repackage the data and sell it to other manufacturers unless the sponsor of the research paid a premium.

I participated in the $500 survey mailed from Niagara Falls. I feel this survey most certainly came from BRP. It had the terminology which is BRP's corporate signature. There is no doubt in my mind.

The survey was way too long. I stayed with it to the end, only because I wanted to help BRP. I am not sure they learned anything of value from my answers.

Well, so much for the hope that some other manufacturer was interested in making a reverse trike.

I am inclined to think they got the info from some registration records because I would hate to think the MVA here gave out my info. Reason I say that is because on my card, they have it addressed (as far as my name goes) the same exact way my info is printed out on my title. What makes mine a little different anyway (and some others may have done it as well) is that my Spyder is in my name only but I have it specified to transfer ownership to someone else in case something were to happen to me and I pass away so on my title I have the letters TOD and it is the same exact way they have my survey card addressed and that is to include the other person's name.

There is no doubt this was BRP. They asked far too many Spyder-Specific questions....

Would we like the following options:

Adjustable Power Steering
Adjustable Traction Control
Larger Engine/More HP
Hybred Engine
Electric Engine
Performance Shocks
Higher MPG
Custom Paint from Factory
Heated Seats
Audio systems
Trailers
Sport/Performance edition

Hi Tim,

Firstly, thank you for your interest in our study.

To answer your question, BrandSpark International has been commissioned on behalf of a major motorcycle manufacturer to field this study. Though I would like to disclose the identity of the manufacturer, I am legally bound to preserve the identity of our client. The client's goal is to understand the wants and needs of motorcycle owners to help them build better bikes for consumers.

Note that your answers are only analyzed in aggregate, your individual responses will never be used, and your personal information is never shared with our client.

I would be happy to answer any additional questions you may have. I can be reached via email or by phone at 647-727-4579.

Once again, thank you for your interest in our study.

I did the telephone survey (about 30 minutes and not invasive at all). They couldn't tell me who commissioned them, but I think it is probably Harley by the questions. Asking about front -vs- rear paired wheels. and conversions costs etc. I got a $50 cheque for doing the survey. So BONUS. They got my name from a forum, but not the web master. The interviewer was personable and actually the 1/2 hour went by very quickly. He seemed to be a rider, but not with a lot of experience, in General. I would do it again!
