View Full Version : I found a V8 that will probably fit the Spyder or next Spyder. :)

That is just plain sexy.

The 900SS put out like 74 to 80 HP as a twin...

That said, he is using 8 cylinders on the same crank with quite the neat design... and entirely different cylinder heads....

So... hard to say what the output would be... You can't simply multiply 4 x 80... as the heads are from a 125cc bike. I also wonder if the four cylinders to one connector for the crank either robs power with that mechanism or is more efficient or much the same.

I imagine he makes plenty of HP, but the torque would be interesting... I don't imagine the torque would be as high as some think it would as you are still using the same crank from the twin and have less moving mass at the bottom end though you would have 2 connected cylinders firing as a pair every spark.... Maybe someone else with more engine building experience can chime in.

I would love to see a factory designed small 8... just for fun. I know there has been some 8 cylinders in the past that were production bikes... but with today's materials and machining capabilities, you could make them even smaller.

WOW! That is incredible dude! I also found this:

It's a Busa V8 that puts out 327HP. YEEEEEE-HAWWWW! The story reads that they have used this engine in race cars and have achieved speeds in the 200mph range. Not sure it would fit in the Spyder's underbelly, but WOW! I believe, gentlemen, that this would more than solve our lust for power! :yikes:

That thing would sound EVIL... So now that we all want one; how do we go about sweet-talking the guy into giving one of us a prototype for "testing"?:D :2thumbs:

Actually the more I think about it...By using the same crank you are just essentially making a v8 that is turning in the same balance as the twin... So... Not sure what is accomplished here... You have a V8 bike motor that is really, essentially still a twin but much more complex. Remember, the key is that it is the exact same crank from the dukati twin...

Sorry... seems I got excited for nothing.

Not very clear what the outboard cylinders are accomplishing? By transferring their motion through a bellcrank, it looks as though they would merely aid in the compression stroke of the middle cylinders. If that's the case, it's really only a neat looking 4 cylinder with a bunch of extra parts.........

Does anybody here remember how silly the Chrysler Tomahawk turned out to be?? :firstplace: Too much horsepower is always JUST enough! :2thumbs:
