Well being one who likes to surprise and spoil my significant other, I did it again yesterday. She had been throwing hints about getting a old VW to play with. SOOOOOO, taking that hint, I started my search. Suzy thinking that I was looking at this to add as another one of my toys... I started showing her different ones. Then last weekend I made arrangements to get a '56 Oval window Beetle. Met the gentleman in Erie PA and it ended up being a HUGE pile of junk. :yikes::yikes::gaah::gaah: So having a backup plan, I knew that there was a '64 Herbie just outside of Niagara Falls. SO I met the owner and we struck a deal. Then I called Suzy, told her the outcome and decided to make a day out of it and surprise the kids being it was HERBIE! Now my wife has a rule now that if I get a new toy, something has to go! :gaah:. Well I now have found a loop hole in that rule. Buy it and give it to her as a present :thumbup:.

So we surprised the kids once we got there, then surprised her by telling the owner to make the paperwork out to her. She was shocked and couldn't believe I did this.

Well once we were done there, we were only a few miles from Niagara Falls, SOOO since she has always wanted to go there (her parents spent their honeymoon there and wanted to see where their pictures were taken), we took Herbie and the kids on a rode trip.

Here's Suzy and Herbie in the parking lot at the Falls:

Shelby and Taylor in front of the falls:

And the kids in front of one of the locations that Suzys parent took some of their wedding photos:

Now Suzy has had a pretty full day at this point and is trying to hold her emotions back. Her parents have both passed away and now getting a new toy in Niagara Falls and being able to walk around where they spent their first days as husband and wife meant alot to her. Since we took pictures of Herbie at the Falls, we decided to make this like the movie "Vacation". So we would take pics of every place we stopped with Herbie. Sounds silly, but we all had fun doing it and something the kids will remember forever.

I wont bore you with all the pics, but here is Herbie at dinner:

Now the fun begins. I had fun building her the Mustang, now I have this to do for her. The car looks OK for a 46 year old car and is about as stock as it can be, BUT.... since A) I cant leave anything alone or stock and B) it needs some real detailling, the process of getting Herbie looking good now begins.

:congrats: on the new toy. I should try that with my wife, but the toys she wants is not what I want.

Herbie is much better looking than my first car which was a 66 VW Fastback. There wasn't anything fast about it!

My 2nd car was a '69 fastback (deep red, if I remember correctl). I then got a '70 Karminn Ghia with an automatic stickshift.

Those were fun days...
