hey guys,
I have a 2009 SE5 with 2000k on it. Now when the bike downshifts on it's own there is no problems, but when I do it manually it takes long doing the 2end to 1st gear downshift (and I'm not downshifting at a real high RPM). It never did it before, but the only thing I can think of is we did a oil change on it, but we used Mobil 1 that meets the BRP spec.

Anybody run into this??
Thanks

I am using Mobile 1 in my 2008 SE5 and do not have this issue.
Were both filters changed, and was the specified amount of oil added during the change?

I almost always, read 97% of the time at least, allow mine to downshift from 2nd to 1st on its own. If you watch the RPMs it will downshift to other gears automatically just below 2500 or so; however, for 1st gear it will not do so until just below 1800. If you are trying to downshift it over 1800 RPM, then the Spyder may be trying to prevent you from doing so. I am not sure about it, and hope someone else might have a better explanation for you as well.

Here's what I've seen if you down to first above 2500 or so it's immediate and engaged. If below there is some delay and there is a period of coasting Clutch disengaged

I think that if you shift at low rpms it assumes you are going to stop above the magic number ur setting up for a slow tight corner

At least that's how I do it

I have a 2009 SE5 I bought it used with 1700 miles and I love my :spyder2:I took the bike on a 1800 miles trip, while on the trip the transmission started not wanting to down shift from 2nd to 1st...took it in the shop, a week and a half later I pick it up and all is good.....I just rolled over 5000 miles and it is doing it again...back in the shop tomorrow and I still love my :spyder2:fb

So why not let it downshift on its own?:dontknow:
I am in the same school of thought as Spyderwolf- I rarely downshift into first. 95% or more of the time I let my :spyder: do that.

My question is.....is it best to let the bike downshift on it's own; manually, or a combination of both?

It shouldn't matter. But since I bought an SE5, I just as soon have it downshift itself, unless I feel the need to downshift on my own. I downshift manually a lot of the times in higher gears, but from 2nd to first i usually let the :spyder:do it.

:agree: Unless its an Emergency- I let the Spyder downshift from 2nd to 1st. Transmission has to earn its pay Somehow?:roflblack:

thanks hawkii for the good info here.

and I downshift manually cause I can, I'm not being hard on it I'm just used to being in total control of my bike. Apperently the :spyder2: can't take it. This is awsome, I have just over 1000k on the bike and I get to do 6 hours of travelling to get this fixed.

:agree: I have a handle on mine so it will backfire if I don't manually down shift but I only down shift to 2nd then let the bike do what it wants to do. For those of you with the se5 I recommend changing the HCM filter aka tranny filter every time you change your oil and do it by the book step by step I have seen an improvement by doing this.
