I got my :spyder2: at Whitter Fun center on Whitter Blvd. The 6000 mile service was around $650 to $700 as I recall. I had a service contract with them for the first year. That contract included unlimited service for the first year so I did not have to pay anything for the 6000 mile service, but the service manageer said it was around the price range i listed a above.

Mine was exactly $00.00. I never had it done. Have not had any mechanic put a wrench on the engine yet and have 40,000 miles. My SE5 has never had any code show up or had any mechanical problems.

Did it myself, 75/85 dollars in oil and filters.
My opinion most scheduled service's are over kill.

Take a look in your owners manual. Change oil and adjust if necessary. If no codes, what could be wrong. No weird noises? Belt tight? Tires inflated. I dont need to spend $700.00 or more to tell me my Spyder is running ok. Just my opinion.

6,000 mile service is supposed to include the first valve check. That's where the cost goes up...even without adjustment.

If your retired or have the time download an on line service manual and leard to do things yourself. The How-To section here covers most things anyway. You can view a fische(sp) of all Spyder components at SHS powersports for free if you need X-Ray vision of your Spyder.:yikes:

You are correct that the valve check is in the manual at 6,000. But, it is reported on these boards that BRP has amended it to have the inspection at 12,000. My dealer tech confirmed that when I had my 6,000 done. I will need the 12,000 in a matter of days.

Perhaps you are smarter than the rest of us 5th graders . . . But, had you encountered an expensive failure prior to the warranty expiration you may have been very unhappy.

I think the original question was: "What do the dealerships charge you for the 6,000 mile service and not whether you opted to have it done or not or even whether it was worth it or not.

BRP revised the valve check interval to 12,000 miles early in production, but they added a note to do the first check at 6,000 miles. Silly, if you ask me, but that is how they set it up. Many dealers are confused about this.

Mouthpiece,

You're absolutely right. I posed the question regarding cost estimates, and I got the question answered. Having been around this site for a while, I knew I'd also get unsolicited opinions about should the service be done,or not, it cost too much, do it your self, BRP is wrong, etc.

Thanks for your observation.

I asked a service tech last month, face to face about the 6k service & was told $200-$225.

So last week I called a different dealer (appox. same distance, different direction) & was told $250 on the high side.
These are the same prices for 600 & 3000 miles.

Is it just a noose to get me in there? :dontknow:

Suppose its time to start maintaining thy own.

Well, if I didn't go to the dealer, did the dealer charge me anything? I don't recommend anyone do what I have done...with 40,000 miles in 20 months what I have done has worked well for me. And, as I understand a forum, if something is posted, then one opens the post to all opinions.
