View Full Version : IPS key mod for your Spyder RS/RT

Lamonster
07-27-2010, 04:18 PM
IPS stands for In Plain Sight and is a way to hide your key in plain sight. :doorag:

These came out really nice and I'm very happy with them. They are made out of billet aluminum and are black anodized and then milled again to give you that cool look.

These will sell for $64.00 to your door in the US without Spider domed emblem
and $70.00 to your door with Spider domed emblem.

I now have matching logos for the trunk. Click Here for details Matching Spyder logo (http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?33265-Matching-Spyder-logo)

Please email me if shipping outside the US. If you have any questions or want to place an order you can email me at SpyderSupport@gmail.com
I use PayPal at SpyderSupport@gmail.com for payment.

You're 100% right about how easy this install is!

Step 1 - Drive Spyder 2.2 miles to Lamont's house
Step 2 - Park Spyder at Lamont's house
Step 3 - Wait 6.2 minutes

DONE! It's like Magic! Amazing!

Just doesn't get any easier than this....!

Oh, sorry, it looks like you had to do the install yourself. Well, probably not all that much harder than my process.

I asked Lamonster the following question ref IPS :-

Dear LAMONSTER

Is it possibe to get the IPS (The Plain cover type) without IPS being stamped on it just blank
and could it be shipped to the UK

No one in the UK is doing anythiing like this and it is such a good product
I understand you can accept PayPal

Any information useful

Eddie Sheppard
Reading UK

Lamonser Answered = That would be a custom one off build and I can't do that. These are made 100 at a time.

(Note)

I just wondered if others would like a plain one to either get engraved with their Initials, Name or any other design themselves Or just leave plain
(Could always stick a badge on it etc )
It may then be worth Lamonster running off a batch of 100 if enough showed interest
It still an excellent product anyway

Thanks

Eddie Sheppard

I guess you assumed that I wanted to make a plain version if I had enough call for them, I don't. There are companies that make domed badges that you could stick over the IPS logo, that might be your better option.

Question... Since at some point in time we're going to still have to carry our key with us, is anybody making a leather or cloth pouch that can be worn on a belt yet? Something with the Spyder logo would be pretty neat...

I might be on to something here... I'm going to E-Bay a Speedloader pouch designed to carry speedloaders for the new S&W 500 mag. That might be big enough... When I get it and check things over I'll report! :shemademe_smilie:

It's soooo close! :cus: The leather pouch that I got is going to get soaked and have the IPS shoved down its throat to see if it will form to it.
Unfortunately the extra large Speedloader pouches are pretty rare, so this isn't a viable way to carry the IPS.

Maybe it's just the paranoia in me, but with more folks becoming aware of the Spyder, it scares the crap out of me to think that someone can simply get on, turn the key, hit the mode button and take off. Since we all love to talk about our Spyders whenever we get the opportunity, it may not occur to you that you may be giving strangers more info about your baby than you realize.
I'm sorry if this sounds like a negative post; I really don't mean it to come off that way. And I would assume that no one has ever had their Spyder stolen, so I believe it's a really cool device. As soon as I am able to secure my faith in the honor of passers by, I will purchase one.

After visiting this thread again, and speaking with other Spyderists locally, no one has yet to answer the big question. Why would you want an IPS key thingy? Just the other day, after parking at church, one of the local CMA wags said, "Oh,wait son, all Spyder keys have to stay with me." I started to bet him his next Diet Coke that I would give him 5 minutes to have it started and moved. ( he is unfamiliar withthe beast, just admiring) So anyway, aside from cool looking, why would I want one?

Why Does anyone want anything? Maybe it will serve a purpose for them ( a functional item they need), It catches their eye( enhances the appearance of what they already have), or perhaps they are just trying to keep up with the Jones. It is purely a personal decision.

I am sure that everyone here knows plenty about Lamont and how he does buisness regarding his IPS and everything else he does for this syte ... I just wanted to say Lamont, you are a man among men sir ...I ordered my IPS the Friday before Sturgis and Lamont went out of his way to ship it while he was on the road in Sturgis .... What a true Spyderlover he is, to take time from enjoying his trip to ship my IPS and make sure I got it fast and did not have to wait .... I must also say what a quality product this is and how truly easy it was to install ... Lamont, you are a Spyder God in my book and I thank you for your effort and the time you took out of your trip to handle this transaction ....I know that I am not saying anything that everyone doesn't already know ... I just wanted to make sure I said it anyway ... you are a great ambassador for the Spyder.

Thank you,

Quay

Try, See if you get one

Oh I know I would! I just found it funny that two posts in a row asked the same question about ordering. I felt compelled to post somehow. Like a Jedi mind trick or something.

Not true... At least not true in MOST States...
IF your vehicle is stolen and IF you report it as such, then your liability insurance will not pay any claims for damages or injuries caused by the :cus: who took it...
Actually the clause is written so that the insurance extends to anybody that has your permission to operate your vehicle...
Leaving the key in your Spyder is not the same as granting permission to take your vehicle...:lecturef_smilie:

I have a question. If I have a valet key made for my RS will the spyder ignition see the RFID on my real key in my pocket? If so then I wouldn't mind leaving the key in with a IPS. does anyone know if this will work or do I need ot try and report back?

Love my IPS.
One small issue, bought the RT622 trailer and the small lip over the trailer key hole prevents the use of the key in the IPS. I have to carry my spare

Has anyone figured out if this would work? Seems you would sell alot more and would be worth figuring out.

I have been abke to start the bike with a valet key by holding the RFID key next to the ignition. Once started the RT runs find with key tucked away. Can be a pain if the RT stalls but that hasn't happened . I do have the RFID hooked to my to my jacket for easy access.

I have been using an IPS switch since 2010 with no problems. Non Spyder Ryders have any idea what it is. Most non owners know how to crank one anyway. :D
Still think it is the most fun thing!

Not sure if these are still available, but if so I would like a black and silver one. I was having issues with the latch on the seat sticking, and was stranded a few times at the gas station because the seat lever would not release. On the third episode, I got a little rammy and snapped off my key in the ignition. I don't like to take the top portion of the key out because its a pain to get back in correctly. I thought about trying this with the broken key, or have a locksmith dig the broken portion of the key out and just use this with the spare key. If these are still available, shoot me an email if you get a chance. Hartsock1986@hotmail.com.

Thanks
