Hi guy's I just recieved my Spyder insurance bill from Progressive $900.00:gaah: What are you folks paying and with what company? I have a great driving record, the two wheeler was half this much.

Thanks

Yep, these things are expensive to insure. The reason is they are new. The insurance companies dont have any data on them yet so they are playing it "safe" ..... for themselves. Mine was not $900 (more like $500) but it was still about the same as I was paying for 2 bikes. It should come down in a year or 2. Make sure you ask them to rerate at renewal time (assuming you did not get any tickets)

I paid Progressive $67 for my '93 Virago 1100, $95 for a 1982 Honda CM250 (go figure) and $634 for my 2010 RT-S. This is for 12 months. I do not understand insurance rates. The Honda (2800 miles) must be a classic collectors item. :>)

Easy to understand, Put all your two wheelers together they won't cost as much to replace as one trailer for the RT-S. will.

Make sure you have the right coverage. You can get some pretty cheap quotes that don't give you the coverage you need.

I don't want to bust your bubble but everybody should stop and review your ins. coverage. You don't know how good your ins. is until you need it. A lot of you do not have underinsured motorist. You should have uninsured and underinsured motorist. Ask your agent if it is full tort or limited tort? I was involved in a headon collision by a woman who had low sugar. She was driving arratic and she didn't know where she was after the accident, But anyway with full tort you can sue for pain and suffering where as limited tort you can sue just for the limits in your ins. policy. A lot of you say you have full coverage and pay soso. Check your limits and raise them because of some idiot that can cause you alot of problems. Also if you have more that one vehicle with the same ins. co. ask your agent if you can stack them. That means you can sue for double of your lim its.

A lot of insurance companies will put the Spyder in the same class and rate as a crotch rocket, read high cost insurance. I'm with Allstate, clean record, full coverage, $305/year in Indiana. Rates went down almost $300 when I told them it is a sport-tourer, and another 10 per cent with MSF class certificate.

I think states set their own insurance regulations. I don't know if that tort stuff you are talking about applies in Michigan. I do know that our motorcycle insurance has additional fees / coverages that aren't required in other states so we can pay more for identical coverage from the same provider as someone in another state.

EDIT: Just looked it up and some states (like Michigan) have No Fault insurance instead of limited / full tort so, in general, there is no suing of the other persons insurance company for damages, pain suffering, etc.

You should have uninsured and under insured motorist.
Good point. In Texas, we have a lot of uninsured motorist even though you must show proof of insurance to get your tags. Progressive gave me a quote of over $900 without un/under insured. That was $300 more for a total of $1200 a year. Went with Foremost for $480 a year, full coverage including un/under.
Oh, and USAA sent me to Progressive. Thanks anyway.

That is where you are wrong. PA has no fault in s also. That means that your ins pays for your venicle and their ins pays for their vehicle. That what no fault means. You can still sue for pain and suffering under full tort.

I was with Progress for my two wheeler and they wanted almost $2,000 to cover the bike and the Spyder RT. That is more than my big truck that pulls our RV. I contacted Foremost and the two bikes combined were $700 with full coverage, $250 deductible.

Michigan allows suing of of the driver at fault for motorcycle accidents, we just have limits for what can be awarded. A kid ran a red light and hit me, totally the bike and trashing my left arm. The limit for pain and suffering for that sort of injury was $99,000. My lawyer got me $90,000. I don't think "no-fault" applies to motorcycles. This reform (years ago) was supposed to reduce insurance costs. Haven't noticed any price breaks.

With the car, any accidents are paid off by your own insurance. Don't ask how I know........
