more tire choices

anyone had experience with either of these? not necessarily on spyder.
michelin got excellent reviews and falken did not fair bad neither.

One of the advantages of this tire is that it is available in both 225/50-15
and 185/60-14 so you can have 3 tires that are the same.

One of the advantages of this tire is that it is available in both 225/50-15
and 185/60-14 so you can have 3 tires that are the same.
Also, very good price!

yes this one has been discontined, replaced by ze912.
supposed to be better and cost about 90 bucks i think.
i don't know about using 185 tires. i think 175 is probably acceptable but 185?

I dont really care for the 912 on the rear as it has an asymetrical tread pattern

There are others running the 185 on front. Reports are that it is very tight, but does work. I'm waiting for someone to post pics up close to show how the fit, but so far no love.

If they are not directional tread pattern do not bother, I put a set on the front that wasn't and limp mode city, walkin back and forth, got the company to take them back, just a warning

on the rear of my GL1800 for comfort and safety. Yea... I know but after having a MC tire blow breaking both my arms and my motorcycle I went to the "darkside". Anyway I find the Falken ZE512 to be a very good choice.

Those of you that have switched to auto tires have you noticed any handling problems? I just put a new stock on the rear and was thinking of an auto tire on the rear to increase tire liffe. Only got 8K out of stock.

:2thumbs:I just installed a set of Falken ZE-512 (175/65R-14) on the front of my wife's Spyder. I bought them from Discount Tire. I also ordered a 225/50-15 Falken-ZE-512 for the rear. These tires are directional tires. I talked with Tirerack and Discount Tire techs and both agreed that staying with the directional tire is best. I would have purchased the tires form Tirerack, but they couldn't get the 175's for the front. The ZE-512 have been discontinued, however Discount can still get some. The 175's fit nicely under the fenders. When we left the store, My wife noticed a HUGE inprovement in the handling and ease of steering of the Spyder. After about 1 mile the "check engine" light came on. We pulled over, shut it down for about 2 minutes, restarted it and didn't have any more issues. The tire for the rear is supposed to be in tomorrow. I'll post more after my wife is able to put more miles on the tires, but so far there seems to be no issue with the new tires.

i may go with falken 521 on front also from discount tires.
if anything for their lifetime rotation. i probably will go with G-force in the back thou. need something stickier than 512.

25 lb's at the moment. I will experiment some more when time (work) permits.

My fronts may go 12k, but I doubt that. My rear was gone at the wear bars at 6500, could have kept going but figured it wasn't worth running it beyond that. I think weight and road conditions have a lot to do with tire wear on the Spyder. I (was) 350-360 lbs for most of those 6500 miles (now down to 330 and dropping fast) and I like to accelerate quickly. We also have really crappy roads up here with serious crowning issues. I think the weight is the most important factor, though.

The roads around here are okay... I do a lot of freeway riding the the freeways are always better than the city streets. We ride 2-up quite a bit. Together we are about 370 which doesn't include gear or luggage.

Sounds like your tires suck, I can't imagine that your weight and the roads would make THAT much difference. :dontknow:

rough surface roads will grind more rubber off the tire than a nice smooth blacktop. Especially for those considered a leadfoot, like my SO. She can destroy a good mpg :clap:average in just two starts at a red light. In many cases the longer periods between re-surfacing makes for a more abrasive surface./Ken

I rotated them on the rims at 16,000 and changed them out at 20,000.

I installed a Nitto NT450 Extreme performance tire on rear of wifes RTS seem like a great tire , excellent in rain I believe rated at 45,000mi. , I think it was $90 from onlinetires.com, mounted at home , has balance dot, I checked manually, installed and my wife says smooth @95mph.

I went with the Falken ziex 512's on front (185/60/14 H-rated) and rear (225/50/15 V-rated) they have a nice aqua channel , i like the directional tread design and i got each for 65.00 delivered :2thumbs:
